*To be eligible for a NRC family or senior couple membership the primary member and spouse must be legally married as recognized by the State of Idaho. In addition, only children considered legal dependents ages 18 and under may be included on a family membership. Provisions may be made to place dependent children ages 19 through 21 on a family membership. See the NRC Membership Eligibility policy for details. The NRC may ask for proof of legal dependency or a marriage certificate from anyone registering for a family or senior couple membership.

The Nampa Recreation Center is a 140,000 square foot indoor facility offering many recreation amenities to the public. Our mission is to provide quality programs and services, be responsive to the citizens, and play an active role in making Nampa a healthy community.

To ensure the safety of our members and visitors, the Nampa Recreation Center will enforce all policies and procedures. Metabolic Testing

Learn how many calories your body burns in a day to establish a calorie budget, decrease the frequencies of plateaus, and improve your overall fitness with our highly accurate MedGemtm (an indirect calorimeter that measures VO2 and determines Resting Metabolic Rate). fitness Nutrition Counseling (45 minutes)

Meet with a Registered Dietitian for personalized nutrition recommendations which could include specific dietary changes, an eating plan that outlines portion sizes, appropriate meal composition and timing, food suggestions, food record keeping and meal planning. Counseling is offered once a month with a variety of dates and times available. Register online or at the program desk. Stop by the weight room to have your blood pressure checked anytime.

Injury Screening

Provided by St. Alphonsus Physical Therapy. Stop by the weight room desk to arrange a 15-minute injury assessment or sign up for one of the ongoing times. Screening will include recommendations for injury treatment and prevention. Nutrition Mini’s Gluten-Free Eating

For people who make the decision to eat gluten free as a matter of dietary choice and not a medical necessity, there are many important considerations. This class will discuss these as well as give tips and tricks on gluten free shopping, dining, cooking, and baking. Gluten free samples provided. Eating Healthier Through the Holidays

On average, a person gains 1-2 pounds during the holiday season. Although this doesn’t sound like much, the weight is often maintained and begins to add up over the years. Learn how to make your favorite holiday recipes healthier to avoid the weight gain but still enjoy the season! Samples and recipes will be provided. Walking Club

fitness Weight Room Age Policy

The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the NRC’s Youth Strength Training Course. The NRC offers the ZONE for 10-14 years olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.

The ZONE (Youth Fitness Center)

The ZONE features 9 pieces of strength training equipment specifically engineered for youth ages 10-14. Stop by or call the weight room for more information or to schedule the required orientation. Member Free, Non-Member $15

Youth Strength Training Course

By successfully completing this 4-day course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room including the free weights (some restrictions apply). This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Participants are required to attend the entire class and pass both a written and practical exam. Classes are ongoing and require pre-registration at the Program Desk. Member $16, Non-Member $55

youth programs Kids in Action Day Camp-(KIA)

The Nampa Rec Center, Kids in Action day camp program is a great way to keep your kids active when school is out. Kids in Action gets your kids moving in a supervised, safe environment. Kindergarten through fifth graders stay actively engaged before and after school, or full day care is available according to the Nampa schools’ schedule, please see Day Camp calendar. Transportation is included to and from any Nampa public school with additional 50¢ charge. No commitment, you only pay for the days your child attends and credits are issued when your plans change, if you call by 12:30pm. youth programs Young Rembrandts Elementary Drawing & Cartooning

Learn drawing with a see-touch-do method that all kids can succeed with, learn from and love! Children already love to draw – now take their love a little further by giving them a solid foundation that will take their drawings from doodles to confidenceboosting achievements. The lessons for this session are a combination of elementary drawing and cartooning. In this one-day class learn information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents and guardians. Course includes handbook, Emergency Reference Guide and CD with fun activities and support resources. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Red Cross Babysitter Training Certification card. Please bring a sack lunch. youth sports Nampa Youth Volleyball League

Sponsored by the Nampa Recreation Department and Franz Bakery. Offered in cooperation with the Nampa School District, this program will provide an opportunity for girls in the 5th and 6th grade to learn basic volleyball skills and teamwork in a recreational environment. Children register on a team coached by a parent volunteer. Each week, teams will have two 1-hour practices. Matches are played on Saturday mornings. 5th/6th grade Girls September 9-October 12 Nampa School District gyms $30 Register by August 28 & receive a discounted rate of $25 Coaches needed! Nampa Youth Basketball

Sponsored by the Nampa Recreation Department and Idaho Central Credit Union Offered in cooperation with the Nampa School District. This program will provide an opportunity for youth to learn basic skills and teamwork in a recreational atmosphere. Children register on a team coached by a parent volunteer. Each week, teams will have two 1-hour practices (kindergarten and first grade teams will have one 45-minute practice) Games are played on Saturdays. Practices and games are held at Nampa School District gyms. Coaches needed! If you are interested in working with or coaching a team let us know on your child’s registration form.

Gymnastics is a great physical foundation for kids of all ages that helps develop strength, coordination, physical fitness and self-esteem. It will help prepare children for participation in all kinds of sports. Our instructors will help guide children in a positive atmosphere that helps develop their skills and self- confidence. Each class is designed to teach progressions safely and allows the child to move at their own pace. For a current class schedule or to register, visit the Rec Center website or stop by the Program Desk. A $10 additional fee will be charged for students who register on or after the 1st of the month. Monthly tuition is due by the 20th of the prior month to guarantee a place in the following month’s class. New student tuition will be prorated. Instructors cannot accept payment. The focus is on developing coordination, agility, muscle strength, flexibility, balance and motor skills in a variety of creative activities which helps prepare kids to move on to the Sun Rays classes. Member $44/month Non-Member $51/month

Working in a wide variety of activities while developing coordination, agility, muscle strength, flexibility, balance and motor skills, children will prepare to move on to either the Little Rings or Minigym classes. Member $44/month Non-Member $51/month

Swim Idaho! Is a way for lap swimmers to chart their progress, set goals and conquer those goals. Swimming bench marks are: 102 miles the distance of the Boise River, 425 miles the distance of the Salmon River, 779 miles the distance of the length and width of Idaho and finally 1,076 the distance of the mighty Snake River. Homeschool Swimming

The Nampa Recreation Center is proud to offer a fun and energetic homeschool swimming P.E. program. Children of all swimming abilities will be able to participate in activities with other children of similar skills and ages in the swimming pool. On the first day children will be split up based swimming ability and age. During the two hour period each level group will receive a 30 minute group lesson from one of our nationally certified instructors, the rest is open recreational swimming time for the kids to interact, have fun and be active! This American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course demonstrates how to teach Red Cross swimming lessons and set up lesson plans. If you have a desire to become a swimming instructor then this is the perfect class for you. Course prerequisites are 25 yards in the following 6 strokes: front crawl, backcrawl, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. Nampa Recreation Department is offering an Adult Basketball League beginning in January. Each team will play eight games followed by a double elimination tournament. All games will consist of two 20-minute halves. Non-competitive leagues will play on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Competitive leagues will play Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Teams may be moved divisions after they have played four games. Game times will be 7pm, 8pm or 9pm. League play will begin the week of January 6th, 2020.
