fitness Weight Room Age Policy
The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the NRC’s Youth Strength Training Course. The NRC offers the ZONE for 10-14 years olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.
The ZONE (Youth Fitness Center)
The ZONE features strength training equipment specifically engineered for youth ages 10-14. Stop by or call the weight room for more information or to schedule an orientation. Member Free, Non-Member $15
Youth Strength Training Course
By successfully completing this 11-hour course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room. This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Classes are ongoing and require pre-registration at the Program Desk. Member $16, Non-Member $55

youth programs Kids in Action Day Camp-(KIA)
The Nampa Rec Center, Kids in Action day camp program is a great way to keep your kids active when school is out. Kids in Action gets your kids moving in a supervised, safe environment. Kindergarten through fifth graders stay actively engaged before and after school, or full day care is available too! Transportation is included to and from any Nampa public school with additional .50¢ charge. No commitment, you only pay for the days your child attends and credits are issued when your plans change if you call by 12:30pm. American Red Cross Babysitter Training
In this one day class learn information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents and guardians. Course includes handbook, Emergency Reference Guide and CD with fun activities and support resources. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Red Cross Babysitter Training Certification card. Please bring a sack lunch. Students will produce an image with charcoal. Class will be taught by Terri Smith, a certified teacher & artist. This program will provide an opportunity for youth to learn basic skills and teamwork in a recreational atmosphere. Children register on a team coached by a parent volunteer. Each week, teams will have two 1-hour practices. Games are played on Saturdays. Practices and games are held at Nampa School District gyms. The sport form of judo uses scientificprinciples to throw, trip, sweep or otherwise propel one’s opponent to the mat. Once there, the same theories apply to control and immobilize the opponent to achieve victory in competition. Safety, sportsmanship, self-discipline, cooperation and FUN are the emphasis in the youth class. Cost does not include uniform, see instructor for price. Traditions Tang Soo Do
This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional.
Clothing and Equipment
Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended. For a current class schedule or to register, visit the Rec Center website or stop by the Program Desk. A $10 additional fee will be charged for students who register on or after the 1st of the month. The Nampa Rec Center houses five swimming pools for your exercise and recreational enjoyment. Programs consist of swimming lessons, aquatic safety classes, water aerobics and kayaking. Homeschool Swimming
The Nampa Recreation Center is proud to offer a fun and energetic home school swimming P.E. program. Children of all swimming abilities will be able to participate in activities with other children of similar skills and ages in the swimming pool. On the first day children will be split up based on swimming ability and age. During the two hour period each level group will receive a 30 minute group lesson from one of our nationally certified instructors, the rest is open recreational swimming time for the kids to interact, have fun and be active! Red Cross Lifeguard Training
This course is designed for experienced swimmers ages 15 and older that want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications are awarded upon successful completion of the course. Course prerequisites are: 300 yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke, retrieval of a 10 pound brick from 7ft of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made 4 business days before start of class. This American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course demonstrates how to teach Red Cross swimming lessons and set up lesson plans. If you have a desire to become a swimming instructor this is the perfect class for you. Our Adaptive Swim Lesson Program is for children and adults with special needs that may not be met through traditional swim lessons. The goal of this program is to provide students with a structured aquatic experience designed to make them feel comfortable and safe while swimming. Jr. Lifeguard Boot Camp
Come join us during spring break for a Jr. Guard boot camp. Learn about what it takes to be a lifeguard, such as recognizing a drowning victim, how to assist someone who is struggling in the water and how to perform CPR and first aid. You must be between 11-14 years old and be able to swim 25 yards front crawl and 25 yards breaststroke as well as tread water for one minute and float for 30 seconds on your back. Upon completion each student will receive an American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification. Ages 11-14 March 29-31 11am-3pm Member $45, Non-Member $55
Swim Idaho!
Swim Idaho! is a way for lap swimmers to chart their progress, set goals and conquer those goals. Swimming benchmarks are: 102 miles-the distance of the Boise River, 425 miles-the distance of the Salmon River, 779 miles-the distance of the length and width of Idaho and finally 1,076 miles-the distance of the mighty Snake River. T-shirts are awarded at each Idaho Bench Mark. Ask a Lifeguard how to start tracking your laps!

Pickleball Lessons
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. It is a combination of badminton, tennis and ping pong. It can be played indoors or outdoors on a badminton size court using a whiffle ball and composite paddle. It is easy for beginners to learn and can develop into competitive play for experienced players. Summer League Softball Men’s and Coed
The Nampa Recreation Department offers summer coed and men’s softball leagues. The goal of the program is to provide opportunities for physical exercise, socialization and healthy competition for adults through team sports programs. Each league has three divisions: Division “A” consists of players looking for a competitive game, “B” consists of players with some experience, but a less competitive desire and “C” consists of players with little to no experience but interested in having fun. Each team plays ten regular season games followed by a double elimination tournament. Teams may play two games a week. Men’s League Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday 6:30pm or 7:45pm West Softball Complex Coed League Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday 6:30pm or 7:45pm
Teams are required to provide the umpire with a new softball before each game. Balls must be ASA approved 52/300 12inch ball for men’s league. Coed teams are required to provide a 12” ball for men and an 11” ball for women. Games begin May 8. League Fees $350 by April 11 $385 by April 25 (last day to register) Player’s fees Nampa Residents $10, Non-Residents $15 Informational meeting April 11th at 6:30pm in the Senior Center.
Players will have a weekly match where they are placed with an opponent of their same ability level. Once paired up, players will be responsible to reserve court space and schedule their own matches. Matches will be self-officiated. Players can choose to participate in singles, doubles or both. Fee includes t-shirt. Experience Paintball
Bring the whole family to Pyrrhic Paintball in Nampa for a fun afternoon at this 6-acre facility. There will be 4 different fields and many different game scenarios, giving participants a large range of experiences to enjoy. Ultimate Frisbee League

Dust off your Frisbees and round up your team. Frisbees will be provided for the games. Teams will play 7 on 7 games on Saturday mornings. adult sports Traditions Tang Soo Do
This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional.
Clothing and Equipment
Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended. The beginning class covers the fundamentals of Tai Chi including: basic movements, breathing, meditation, warm-up form and an introduction on the Yang Style Short form. This class is an introduction to the modern Olympic sport of fencing in a safe, friendly atmosphere. The class will teach students the theory of modern fencing, coordination between mind and body, and basic and competitive fencing. Fencing develops concentration, ambition, imagination, perception and analytical thinking. These skills are utilized and developed every time you fence. This will be combined with fencing’s conditioning that improves endurance and coordination. All equipment and instruction provided. Students are required to wear sneakers and comfortable clothing for this class. Birding Tour at Lake Halverson
Nampa Recreation Department and Canyon County Parks Director Tom Bicak are leading a walking bird tour along the Snake River in Celebration Park. We will also see the raptors at the Morley Nelson National Conservation Area. Wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars, water and your camera as we make our way on 3-4 miles of trails. 1000 Springs Boat Tour & Shoshone Falls
Catch the Snake River at the height of color with spring wildflowers and enjoy the serene beauty as you sit in the comfort of an enclosed boat. Lunch will be served onboard by Snake River Grill. Hells Canyon Jet Boat Adventure
Located at the south entrance of Hells Canyon, Hells Canyon Adventures will be providing a jet boat tour of the canyon allowing participants to enjoy the scenery in the deepest elevations, transitions of the canyon, and all wildlife that live there. Christmas Tree Recycling
Christmas trees may be dropped off at Kohlerlawn Cemetery beginning December 26 through January 11. Trees must be free of stands, lights and all ornamentation. Trees will be turned into mulch and used throughout our parks and trails.
