“Flower Garden” Quilt Block The finished block measures 16 inches square (16 1/2 inches unfinished). Instructions: Use springtime colors, with a white background. Make 2 blocks. Use good quality, 100% cotton fabrics and prewash your fabrics.

1. From a springtime color, cut one 2 1/2 inch square. 2. From a springtime color, cut four 2 1/2 inch squares. 3. From a springtime color, cut eight 2 1/2 inch squares. 4. From a springtime color, cut twelve 2 1/2 inch squares. 5. Cut thirty-nine white 2 1/2 inch squares.

6. Join these squares in strips of eight. You can strip piece each row by stacking the colors in piles, then adding a square to each row. 7. Sew completed strips together to form the block. Your completed block will measure 16 1/2 inches. Sixteen inches after sewn into a quilt!

This is a scrap quilt and is very easy to sew. The solid row of white squares at the top and right side of the block serves as a dividing strip between the blocks.

“Flock of Geese” The finished block measures 10 inches square (10 1/2 inches unfinished). Instructions: Use good quality, 100% cotton prewashed fabrics.


1. From each color, cut a 5 7/8 inch square. 2. From each color, cut four 3 3/8 inch squares. 3. Lay a light square on top of a dark square and draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. 4. Sew 1/4 inch from each side of the line, then cut along the line and press the seam toward the dark fabric. (Or cut the squares on the diagonal and sew the triangles together.)

5. Join the small squares as shown. 6. Sew these to the larger squares to form the block. Your completed block will measure 10 1/2 inches. Ten inches after sewn into a quilt!

16 inch four patch Quilt Block The finished block measures 16 inches square (16 1/2 inches unfinished). Instructions: Use good quality, 100% cotton prewashed fabrics.

Cut four 8 1/2 inch by 4 1/2 inch pieces from each color. Place these right sides together, and sew along the long edge. Press the seam toward the darker fabric. Join these squares as shown.

If you choose to use a fabric with a large print or motif, you can “fussy cut� your strips to create a secondary pattern, as illustrated below. Your completed block will measure 16 1/2 inches. Sixteen inches after sewn into a quilt!


Examples:

Sister’s Choice Quilt Block The finished block measures 10 inches square. (10 1/2 inches unfinished). Instructions: Use good quality, 100% cotton prewashed fabrics.

1. Cut eight 2 1/2 inch squares from white. 2. Cut nine 2 1/2 inch squares from a pastel floral print. 3. Cut four 2 7/8 inch squares from white. Cut these on the diagonal to make a total of eight triangles. 4. Cut four 2 7/8 inch squares from the pastel floral print. Cut these on the diagonal to make a total of eight triangles. 5. Sew the floral triangles to the white triangles to form eight 2 1/2 inch squares. Or . . . 3. Cut four 2 7/8 inch squares from white. 4. Cut four 2 7/8 inch squares from the pastel floral print. 5. Layer a white 2 7/8 inch square on a floral 2 7/8 inch square and draw a line on the diagonal. Sew 1/4 inch from each side of the line, then cut along the drawn line.

6. Press the seam toward the floral print. 7. Sew squares into strips, as shown.


8. Sew the strips together to form the block. Your completed block will measure 10 1/2 inches. Ten inches after sewn into a quilt!

Double V Quilt Block The finished block measures 10 inches square. (10 1/2 inches unfinished). Instructions: Use good quality, 100% cotton prewashed fabrics.

1. Cut four 2 1/2 by 4 1/2 inch rectangles from white. 2. Cut four 2 1/2 by 4 1/2 inch rectangles from a medium blue. 3. Cut four 2 1/2 inch squares from white. 4. Cut five 2 1/2 inch squares from the medium blue. 5. Sew four of the blue squares to the white squares. Press the seam toward the blue. 6. Sew a blue rectangle to each of the units in the previous step as shown in the graphics. Press the seam toward the blue rectangle. 7. Sew the newly formed 4 1/2 inch squares to each side of a white rectangle, as shown. Press the seam toward the square. 8. Sew the remaining white rectangles to each side of the remaining blue square. Press the seam toward the blue. 9. Piece the units together. Your completed block will measure 10 1/2 inches. Ten inches after sewn into a quilt!

Log Cabin Star Quilt Block The finished block measures 10 1/2 inches square. (11 inches unfinished).


1. Cut one gold fabric and four blue fabric 2 1/2 inch squares.

2. Cut two gold and two blue 2 7/8 inch squares (star points) 3. Place the gold squares on top of a blue squares, right sides together, cut the layered square diagonally, and sew the four half square triangles together along the diagonal edge. Press seam allowance toward blue fabric.

OR, Place the gold squares on top of a blue squares, right sides together, draw a diagonal line and sew 1/4 inch to each side of the line. Cut along the line you drew and press open.

4. Piece the star block together as illustrated; it should measure 6 1/2 inches.

5. Use a variety of six 2 inch red and blue strips cutting one strip each of the following lengths: 6 1/2 inches; 8 inches; 8 inches; 9 1/2 inches; 9 1/2 inches; 11 inches. 6. Sew a 6 1/2 inch strip to one side of star block, press toward strip. Turn star block a quarter turn to the left. 7. Sew an 8 inch strip to the star block, press toward strip. 8. Sew an 8 inch strip to the same side of the block as the 6 1/2 inch strip. 9. Continue adding the following size strips, making sure the strips are added to only two sides of the block.

Your completed block will measure eleven inches. 10 1/2 inches after sewn into a quilt!

Card Trick Quilt Block The finished block measures 12 inches square (12 1/2 inches unfinished).


1. Cut one 5 1/4 inch background square; cut both ways on the diagonal to form four triangles. 1. Cut two 4 7/8 inch background squares; cut each on the diagonal to form four triangles. 2.) Cut one 4 7/8 inch and one 3 3/4 inch square from one of your prints/solids. Cut each on the diagonal to form triangles. 3.) Repeat step 3 for the remaining three prints/solids. 1. Refer to the diagram and sew one of each print/solid small triangle together to form the center square. 2. Refer to the diagram and sew the remaining of each small print/solid triangle to a small background triangle along a short edge of the triangles. Sew these to one of the larger print/solid triangles, as shown in the diagram. 3. Sew the remaining large print/solid triangles to a background triangle along the long sides to form squares. 1. Assemble the block as pictured; you will have nine squares that will go together like a nine-patch block. Your finished (unfinished) block should measure 12 1/2 inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the 12 inch finished size -- as the “finished� measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Indian Trails Quilt Block The finished block measures 6 inches square (6 1/2 inches unfinished).

1. Cut one 2 1/2 inch background square. 1. Cut four 2 7/8 inch background squares; cut each on the diagonal to form triangles.


1. Cut 2 7/8 inch squares from your prints/solids. Cut each on the diagonal to form triangles -five triangles of one color, three of another, and one triangle of your remaining color. 1. Refer to the diagram and sew the triangles together to form the squares. 2. Assemble the block as pictured; you will have nine squares that will go together like a nine-patch block. Your finished (unfinished) block should measure six and one-half inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the 6 inch finished size -- as the “finished” measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Examples of the ways this block can be used.

Four-Patch Nine-Patch Quilt Block The finished block measures 12 inches square (12 1/2 inches unfinished). 1. Cut four 4 1/2 inch squares from a white background fabric. 2. Cut twenty 2 1/2 inch squares from bright jewel tone fabrics. 3. Assemble the jewel-tone squares into five 4-patch squares. 4. Assemble the block as pictured; you will have nine squares that will go together like a nine-patch block. Your finished (unfinished) block should measure twelve and one-half inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the 12 inch finished size -- as the “finished” measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.


Sawtooth Star Quilt Block The finished block measures 12 inches square (12 1/2 inches unfinished). 1. Cut one 4 1/2 inch square from a white-on-white fabric. 2. Cut eight 2 1/2 inch squares from a white-on-white fabric. 3. Cut eight 2 1/2 inch squares from a dark holiday green fabric. 4. Cut two 4 7/8 inch squares from the dark holiday green fabric, then cut on the diagonal to form four triangles. 5. Cut two 4 7/8 inch squares from a deep holiday red fabric, then cut on the diagonal to form four triangles. 6. Cut four 4 1/2 inch squares from the deep holiday red fabric. 7. Sew two of the green 2 1/2 inch squares to the top corners of each red 4 1/2 inch square, placing them in the upper corners and sewing diagonally across the square. Trim 1/4 inch from the seam and press open. 8. Sew two of the white-on-white 2 1/2 inch squares to the bottom corners of each red 4 1/2 inch square, placing them in the upper corners and sewing diagonally across the square. Trim 1/4 inch from the seam and press open. 9. Sew together the red and green triangles to make 4 1/2 inch squares.

T-Block Quilt Block The finished block measures 12 inches square (12 1/2 inches unfinished). 1. Cut ten 2 7/8 inch squares from a white-on-white fabric. 1. Cut two 4 7/8 inch squares from a white-on-white fabric.


3. Cut five 2 7/8 inch squares from a light blue fabric. 4. Cut five 2 7/8 inch squares from a dark blue fabric. 5. Cut one 4 7/8 inch square from the light blue fabric. 6. Cut one 4 7/8 inch square from the dark blue fabric. 7. Cut all of the 2 7/8 and 4 7/8 inch squares on the diagonal to form triangles. Sew a blue triangle to each white triangle to form twenty 2 1/2 inch squares and four 4 1/2 inch squares. •

. . . or place a blue square on each white-on-white square and draw a line across the diagonal. Sew 1/4 inch from each side of the line, then cut on the line and press open.

8. Prepare four 6 1/2 inch blocks as shown -- two with the light blue and two with the dark blue.

9. Assemble the block as pictured; you will have four 6 1/2 inch blocks that should be placed as illustrated in the graphic. Your finished (unfinished) block should measure twelve and onehalf inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the 12 inch finished size -- as the “finished” measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.
