Zazie 941 Cole St, San Francisco, CA 94117
Welcome to Zazie Zazie was opened in Cole Valley in 1992 by chef/owner Catherine Opoix. After five years as general manager Jennifer Piallat took over from Catherine in 2005. With the incredible support of her staff, including general manager Mario Rojas (a Zazie employee since 1999) and private events manager Suhail Rafidi (a Zazie employee since 2004), Jennifer continues Catherine’s vision of providing a warm and welcoming place to meet friends and enjoy a great meal. Jennifer is a strong supporter of hourly worker’s rights, and Zazie is proud to provide all of our employees with full health care benefits, full dental benefits, paid sick leave, and a 401(k) pension plan with an employer match, as well as a profit-sharing bonus system for kitchen workers and management. In 2010, Jennifer filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court supporting “Healthy San Francisco” against a suit filed by the Golden Gate Restaurant Association.
SF City Attorney Dennis Herrera credited this amicus brief as instrumental in the Courts refusal to hear the GGRA’s petition. Jennifer Piallat was awarded “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year- San Francisco” in 2010 by the Women’s Initiative and is proud to be recognized by the Young Worker’s United “Dining With Justice” award, for which she received a letter of commendation from California Majority Whip Fiona Ma. In 2011, Jennifer spoke on the panel at the U.S. Department of Labor Conference on Workplace Flexibility with Secretary of Labor Solis regarding hourly worker’s rights to health care, schedule flexibility, and paid sick leave. Through Zazie, Jennifer hopes to be instrumental in changing the transitory nature of restaurant work, bringing our customers the assurance and consistency that will only be provided by a stable and appreciated staff. Thanks for all of your gracious support!

Jennifer Piallat was awarded “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year- San Francisco” in 2010 by the Women’s Initiative and is proud to be recognized by the Young Worker’s United “Dining With Justice” award. Since her first job in her stepmother’s restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee in 1989, Jennifer has worked every position in the restaurant industry from dishwasher to pastry chef to general manager, learning in that time the value of treating employees with the respect and appreciation that is often lacking in the industry. After five years as general manager, Jennifer purchased Zazie Restaurant in 2005, promptly implementing a full benefits program to offer her staff the retirement benefits and health insurance that is so uncommon for hourly workers. In conjunction with substantial wage increases, a bonus program, full benefits, and a policy of openness and encouragement with her staff, Jennifer has grown the sales and profits of Zazie 300% while developing an intimate and stable employee base that hardly resembles the transitory, unhappy, and embittered workers the industry is known to foster. Jennifer is proud to offer this extraordinary example of “the golden rule” to restaurateurs who think they cannot run a successful business while treating their workers with respect and appreciation.

I have no words to explain how appreciative we are of every little thing you have done or us over the past year. We could not have imagined a better day or a more beautiful set up. We have only you to thank. Everyone commented on how well done it was and how cute the patio was! What a beautiful place you have, we loved it! Everything was even more amazing then I thought it could be. I loved the colors, the table set up, the linen and the atmosphere. Also would you please pass on your thanks to your staff, especially our waiter Jeff; he was exceptional at his joob and made us feel welcome and that nothing was a problem.
