MALTA This is a game we play as part of an eco project called Dinja Waħda. You could play it by changing the natural habitats and the biodiversity name cards to those found in your country.
How to play the game. 1. Place all habitat hoops in a large circle. Put a habitat flashcard 2. Ask one child to stand in the middle holding the destroyer card. 3. Give each child an animal card. 4. ‘Animals’ have to find their habitat and step into the hoop. Only two children can stand inside one hoop. 5. The teacher makes an announcement Eg. They want to build a new hotel, so bulldozers smash up ROCKY LAND. 6. At this point, the destroyer has to make loud mechanical noises, grabs a rocky land hoop and so, the two ‘animals’ standing inside that particular hoop will panic, causing all other animals to run around the circle of hoops. 7. The destroyer takes the hoop to his spot in the middle of the circle pretending to destroy one piece of habitat. That piece of habitat is now destroyed and cannot be used anymore. 8. The teacher whistles and all the animals rush to find a suitable habitat. They are not allowed to change their habitat. Remember that only two ‘animals’ can stay inside the hoop. So each time, two animals are out of the game. 9. Repeat same procedure until only one of each habitat remains. Announcements for destruction: They want to build a new hotel, so bulldozers smash up ROCKY LAND. They want to build a block of flats, so they cut down a GROVE to make way. A truck dumps oil in a valley and a STREAM gets polluted.
MALTA The Crown Daisy and the Poppy. grow in great numbers in the Maltese countryside.

MALTA On the 16th of April we went on a school trip to Buskett. This is one of the few woodland areas found in Malta. It is overlooked by the Verdala Palace, the official residence of the President of Malta. Buskett is located in the valley of Wied Il-Luq found south of Rabat and east of Dingli. It was a typical spring day. The gardens are at their best in this season but they also offer shade from the harsh mid-summer sun and they are quiet place for a walk in the winter months. Finu came with us. The weather was sunny on the day we visited Buskett and we took a walk through the woods. We observed a lot of living things and we took some pictures.
Bebbuxu: Garden snail Helix aspersa
We heard a lot of birds chirping and we smelled orange blossoms. We also did some leaf and bark rubbing.
Farfett tal-Kromb: Small White Butterfly Pieris rapae
Nannakola: Seven-spot Ladybird Coccinella septempunctata
Then we sat on a bench and we ate a delicious picnic. After lunch we played some games and before we went back to school we collected some leaves for a craft activity.
Try saying these Maltese words that have to do with nature: denfil (dolphin) nemla (ant) ħuta (fish) fjura (flower) Ŝrinā (frog) fenek (rabbit)
MALTA At school we do composting. Composting is the process of recycling organic materials into rich soil.
We also put in soil and water.
We have a large green composting bin. We put left overs of raw vegetables and pieces of paper inside this bin.
Worms help us to turn the organic rubbish into compost. We put the compost back into the soil. It gives plants a lot of vitamins,
