BRIEF ONE DFGA YEARBOOK, working in particular with the type and layout elements. Two pages per student, with pages for each discipline of the course, as well as general information. 84 pages, full colour. No specials, as it’s not necessary to make a high spec print book for a digital media course. Print run of 500.

WHY? Type for body copy— need more work with this in portfolio Print based— Fits SOI Controlled colour— needs a very particular colour palette, whilst also being very limited. Publication— Fits SOI Live work— Good experience for portfolio

WHEN? All student page layouts are completed, so we have a skeleton to work with. Have requested images for content by Easter. Filler page images have been taken, as have student profile photos.

DELIVERABLES? Final printed yearbook, with online elements which will tie the DFGA website/blog into the same design style and organisation as the yearbook.


BRIEF TWO NUMBER 17 re-branding & packaging. Altered D&AD brief, to renew the Number 17 cosmetics brand, make it the first choice for girls aged 12-17. Keeping prices low, Boots own values & products the same.

WHY? Packaging— SOI interest, print based, considers the stock Working with colour— will need to be variable for products & seasons, but consistent to brand Type— Creating a custom type based identity Small line within big store— Fits SOI, doing smaller scale work which will fit in a bigger environment

WHEN? Beginning 9th March—Research over this weekend (ongoing) 12th— Concepts & ideas, design direction, all visual work 19th–26th— Design finalisation & production first week of Easter

DELIVERABLES? Four seasons of packaging for 5 products - Face, Eyes x2, Lips & Nails. Products can vary each season, but will fit categories. Product guide, free magazine for target audience, small page count with info about products & style culture. General sales packaging & store detail.


BRIEF THREE SWIMMING POOL branding, packaging, promotion, interiors. For a local swimming pool, very family focussed audience. Promoting swimming for fun, rather than competitive sport. Design throughout the whole leisure centre.

WHY? Audience— Need a broader audience profile for portfolio work Concentrates on colours— Needs to represent swimming, therefore colours will be limited but carefully selected Type— Creating a custom typeface for identity Branding— Fits SOI, in particular as a concept based business

WHEN? Needs more research work for audience & deliverables suitability. Finishing around 16th March.

DELIVERABLES? Identity for pool— office stationery, membership cards/passes Interior & exterior designs— image based pattern decals Signage— Wayfinding inside, inc pool safety Packaging— 5 swimwear products, 5 cafe products


BRIEF FOUR TYPOCIRCLE publications. D&AD brief to design 3 4-spread (min) supplementary publications to go alongside the ‘Circular’ magazine. To work as a series of ‘special edition’ publications to compliment the events of Typocircle. Three different speakers.

WHY? Audience— More serious and design focussed audience Content focus— Don’t have another content-focussed brief (not to this extent) and will require intensive research to inform Type— Using typography, but not font creation. Focussing on body copy & publication. Also print based.

WHEN? Needs a lot of time spent on research & content generation. Beginning 19th March, completion week after Easter.

DELIVERABLES? Series of 3 publications, digital content considered.


BRIEF FIVE FASHION BRANDING for two students. Identity, branding and packaging for each. Lookbook publications for at least one.

WHY? Print based— Will give oppourtunity to use different stocks, also develop into print production- professional prints Custom typographic identity— Two different custom type identities, fitting with collections as well as designers Branding— Fits SOI. Boutique brands, type based.

WHEN? First set of branding- by 11th March Second set of branding- By end of March. Lookbook starting 1st May, deadline 2 weeks after.

DELIVERABLES? Identity for each student. Full branding & promotion Packaging— Swing tags, sales & storage Lookbooks— Publication 20 pages.
