Hold your fun-filled birthday party at the Barber! Explore the stories behind our paintings and sculptures with our storyteller. You’ll meet some heroes and villains, and get the chance to dress up, before making your very own work of art to take home with you! £12 per child. Minimum 10 children, maximum 15 children. Age 6 years upwards No party is complete without some party food! Our treasure chest lunch boxes are packed with yummy food and cost £5.95 each. Include a party bag stuffed with Barber goodies for £2. Parties subject to availability and require booking well in advance. Our fabulous and FREE family activity guides to the galleries are always full of puzzles, quizzes and drawing challenges to keep the whole family busy and inspired during your visit. Pick one up now in the Learning Room at the top of the stairs, or ask one of our friendly members of staff.

By Train Local trains, operated by London Midland, run regularly from Birmingham New Street to University station, a 15-minute walk from the Barber. Check train times and buy tickets at www.londonmidland.com By Bus There are frequent buses that stop at various locations at the edge of the university campus. Buses 61 and 63 from the city centre stop on the Bristol Road at its junction with Edgbaston Park Road. For all services and a current timetable visit www.nxbus.co.uk/west-midlands By Car The university’s South Car Park (off Edgbaston Park Road) is a short walk away. Charges apply Monday – Friday; 9.30am – 4.30pm.

FREE parking is available on campus around the Barber outside these times and all day on bank holidays. For maps and more information about how to travel to the Barber visit: www.about.bham.ac.uk/maps ACCESS/FACILITIES Level access is available if you cannot manage the stairs at the main entrance, but please phone in advance to make arrangements. Gallery shop, light refreshments, WC, lift and baby-changing facilities are available. Breast-feeding is welcome throughout the building.

There is always plenty for you and your family to do at the Barber, with something on offer for people of all ages. We welcome families to play and learn together in our creative art and craft workshops inspired by our fascinating collection and exhibitions.

SPECIAL EVENTS THURSDAY 19 SEPTEMBER 6.30 – 9PM CHINESE MOON FESTIVAL Celebrate at the Barber, with exciting performances from the popular Jasmine Moon Ensemble, who will bring authentic sounds of the Middle Kingdom alive using traditional musical instruments and dance; embark on a filmic adventure through China with an eclectic programme of short films; make Year of the Snake sculptures; sample delicious authentic moon cakes and plum wine, and take part in a themed gallery tour. Plenty to do for all the family! £5; £3 children. Booking essential.

SUNDAY 20 OCTOBER 11AM – 3PM THE BIG FAMILY DRAWING FACTORY! A fabulously fun day for all the family to come and draw together! Ruth Radcliffe will be giving you tips on how to draw portraits of each other and you can take home an original artwork made by Ruth herself for just £1! No need to book – drop in any time. FREE.

MONDAY 28 OCTOBER 11AM - 3PM PERFECT POSTCARDS HALF-TERM FAMILY DAY Come along and meet the very ladylike Mademoiselle Claus and see her fabulous portrait by famous artistfriend Manet, inspired by holidaymakers at the French seaside. Be inspired to make your perfect painted holiday postcard - then post it to a friend! FREE, drop-in. SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER 11AM – 4PM CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR AND FAMILY DAY The Barber’s ever-popular Christmas Fair returns. Join us for a fun-filled family day of Christmas shopping and browse our artists’ stalls selling unique, hand-crafted gifts.There’ll also be live storytelling in the galleries (12.30 & 2pm), drop-in Crafty Christmas Cracker making for kids and Christmas carols from The Bourneville Graduates (1pm – 2pm). FREE, drop-in.

BARBER YOUTH Aged 13 – 18 and into art? Join Barber Youth! Learn new skills in drawing, painting, printing, sculpture and animation. Visit museums and art galleries, meet artists and learn about careers in the arts!
