Pupils join School-Based Reading & Retelling Contest

The activity aims to let the pupils not only to showcase their reading and story retelling skills but also to encourage them to read.

Second Place is Pheonix W. Lamfayong, and, Third Place is Tifany Ruth B. Acoba.

Drizzle L. Barillo is First Place for the Story Retelling Contest Grades 4-6 Filipino Category, Second Place is Grace Ann G. Ebarwang, and Third Place is Marienne Joy D. Nayona.

All First Placed winners in the school-based contest will participate on the District Online Reading and Retelling Contest.

PCS celebrates World Teachers’ Day

World teachers Day is celebrated all around the globe every 5th day of October as it commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation.

Pupils and teachers joined the 4th Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill in Paracelis Central School at November 11 at 9:00 am to support the country’s program on the preparation against calamities. Led by School Disaster Risk Reduction Management (SDRRM) Coordinator Carolina B. Gammonac, pupils and teachers together does the DuckCover-Hold Technique as a basic preparatory skill in the event of an earthquake. After ringing the bell, teachers led the pupils out in the open ground for checking attendance and possible injury.

“We have to continue participating in this activity so that we can be prepared at times of calamities.” said Gammonac, SDRRM.

It was remembered that last July 27, 2022 a magnitude of 7.0 shook the Northwestern Luzon in which Tayum, Abra was the epicenter and this was felt by the adjacent provinces including the municipality of Paracelis.

Water system now installed

To promote and support the school’s handwashing and hygiene program, the installation of the water system is now completed.

“Although we have a good source of water, pupils and staff still have to carry water to their own classrooms for drinking and cleaning. This made the handwashing and tooth brushing facilities including most of the comfort rooms not operational.” said Vilma G. Abad, Principal of PCS.

The installation of the water pumps and water pipes started in the year 2020

however it was stopped due to the pandemic. “Finally, this year the pipes and faucets were now installed per building and in the classrooms. The officers and members of the Parent-Teacher Association of each grade level played a big role in the installation of the water system.” added Abad.

Pupils can now observe and enjoy handwashing practices and comfort rooms are now operational, also some classrooms have built-in washrooms.

“I am thankful that the water is now available for us to use.” said Wren, a Grade 5 pupil.

PCS scribes join Journalism Training

To enhance their writing skills, 30 Grades 4-6 pupils of Paracelis Central School attended the School-Based Journalism Training on November 30 & December 8 at Paracelis Technical Vocational High School (PTVHS).

The first part of the journalism training was done on the 30th of November in which the participants were taught how to write Feature and Photojournalism. News Writing and Editorial Writing was conducted on the second part of the training.

“Journalism allows you to be aware of the community issues. This workshop develops the cognitive skills of budding journalists.” Zenaida S. Mablay said, one of the speakers and School Paper Adviser (SPA) of PTVHS.

News writing speaker Cristina M. Manayos emphasized that as student journalist, it is their responsibility to educate

the community through fair and relevant information.

Other speakers of the training are speakers were Jannah Beth M. Pocyao, SPA of PCS, and Noreen F. Dangangao, English Teacher of PTVHS.

Barangayanihan sa PCS!

Volunteers from different sectors come together for the Brigada Eskwela Activities at PCS as a preparation for the openingofin-personclassesonAugust22.

The volunteers consisted of the public and private sectors namely: PTA officers, Parents, DENR, BFP, PATODA Federation, LGU, BLGU/BHW, Senior Citizens Federation, PNP, members of 4Ps, Store Owners, and members of Iglesia ni Cristo Religious Sector.

“We are thankful for the continuous support of our stakeholders and volunteers for the success of the Brigada Eskwela activities every year. We may continue to work together for the pupils to have a safe and friendly environment as they come back physically to school after nearly two years due to the pandemic,” said PCS Brigada Eskwela Coordinator Kemy Lumachay.

It was also recorded as of this date that PCS has an enrolment of 734 as of December 2022.

PCS joins 1st quarter NSED

At the sound of the siren, the pupils and teachers of Paracelis Central School joined the 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on March 9 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

Members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) came to evaluate the preparedness of the school in times of earthquakes. The drill was done throughout the whole country at the exact time.

“We observed that the pupils are very cooperative during the drill. They followed the Duck-Cover-Hold technique well.” said Maycelle O. Gubai-on from LDRRM OfficeLGU Paracelis.

Carolina Gamonnac stated that there was an improvement seen in the pupils’ even teaching and non-teaching personnel in the conduct of the drill.

“As mandated, we will continue to do unannounced earthquake drills in the first and third week of the month for us to be prepared in times of the actual event.” said Gamonnac, SDDRM Coordinator.

With the theme “25 Years: Fulfilling the Indigenous Peoples Rights and Bridging theGapsthroughICCs/IPsConvergencewith PartnersandStakeholderstoEnsureEconomic Sustainability and Security in the Ancestral Domains”, teachers and pupils come together astheycelebratedtheIndigenousPeople’sDay thisyearonOctober5attheopengymofthe school.

“This activity reminds us that even we are from different tribes, we need to come together to honor and celebrate our culture.” said Mella Fiaching, School IPED Coordinator. In relation to the activity, the IPED Learning Park was opened to the public to

be used by pupils and stakeholders since its construction last 2021.

“The IPED Park was created for learners to know and appreciate the different ethnic designs inspired from the different Indigenous Culture Community (ICC) in the school.” added Fiaching.

The learning park was made possible with the help of the Homeroom ParentTeacher Association Officers and members of Grades 1-3 as they are the ones who built the tables and chairs out of recycled materials. The program ended with a community dance and the search for best attire among teachers and pupils.

Education Foundation of Life

Vice President and Department of Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte launched the MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa to help improve the learning system in the Philippines and to solve the challenges among schools in elementary and secondary.

The MATATAG is an acronym for the four critical components which are the following:

• MAke the curriculum relevant to produce competent and job-ready, active, and responsible citizens;

• TAke steps to accelerate delivery of basic education facilities and services;

• TAke good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education, and a positive learning environment; and

• Give support to teachers to teach better.

The banner aims to achieve better learning among learners through the improvement of the basic facilities, best teachers and competitive learners. With this, we can see that Duterte had the Philippines education’s best interest. She also calls support and assistance from other government officials in achieving this goal.

The said agenda will focus on making curriculum relevant to produce competent and job-ready, active, and responsible citizens; taking steps to accelerate delivery of basic education facilities and services; taking good care of learners by promoting learner wellbeing, inclusive education, and a positive learning environment; and give support to teachers to teach better.

It is then we, pupils, to take the challenge by doing our best in our studies by being an active participants in schools lesson and activities. It may be stated over and over again but we must always remember Jose Rizal’s words that we are our nations hope. It is through education that one can have better life.

Jeepney Operators Strikes Modernization Program

The Public Utility Modernization Program 2017 aims to phase out traditional jeepneys to be replace with modernized vehicles has caused 40, 000 public utility operators and drivers to go on massive strike starting March 6-12.

We support the jeepney operators opposing this modernization program. The issue of modernizing public transport has led many people into thinking and arguing with each other. Most jeepney operators say that they are against it claiming that traditional jeepneys are part of the Philippine culture. These jeepneys are inspired from army jeepneys used during World War 2 used to send help and relief goods tp starving soldiers.

Many jeepney operators are against this program. It is a wake-up call for the LTFRB to cancel the jeepney phase out and hopefully, the LTFRB will find out an alternative way to solve this issue.

Trendy or Proper?

Some pupils are wearing inappropriate clothes to school. They say it is being “fashionista” or trendy to wear crop top, miniskirts or dresses that are revealing. However, they are left uncomfortable when insect bites them or when they are doing activities in Physical Education.

March is celebrating Women’s Month to honor the importance of women and their great contribution to our society. Centuries ago, women were simple housewives whose only work is to stay at home, take care of children, and do housework. Women were not allowed to join or participate in politics or hold positions in the government. Women had fewer privileges.

Today women are capable of doing anything that men can do. Women today are confident and ambitious in learning and actively participating in our society. They are a great help in building a happy foundation for their family. Women today are courageous and decisive in that they become leaders of nations.

Around the world, mostly women take care of their elders. They are open and ready to face new challenges that are ahead of them. Women work outside the house to help their families financially. We must respect the rights of women and give them the privileges and opportunities that they deserve.

According to Deped Oder No. 45, s. 2008 which stipulates the guidance in wearing proper attire in the school. For boys, they should wear a polo, t-shirt/shirt with a minimum of prints. The pants should be long short in any color that they like. For girls, they should wear dress, skirt and blouse, or a blouse and pants with any color they like. They can pair their attire with any kind of footwear. Pupils can still wear their uniform if they have it.

Pupils should wear proper clothes so that they are not harassed when they are coming to school so they are comfortable while learning their lessons or doing an activity. Pupils should remember that when they dress with respect for the school as a place of learning.

TOURIST SPOTS IN Paracelis

It’ been two years when everything stops due to the pandemic. But now that restrictions are now lifted we can travel and go to different places. This time let’s look at the beautiful tourist spots in our beloved Paracelis. So, sit back and relax as we travel around from land to water!

First stop! Sinmacbot Hills is wellknown among the locals for its beautiful mountain scenery, and if you’re lucky, you might even get a glimpse of an early morning mass or a “sea of clouds” atop the mountains.

Second stop! Mabarotbut Little Volcano is a small muddy volcano formed like a mini hill. According to legend, if you are going to play with it then the diety that is guarding it will get angry.

Third stop! Freshen up as you dip unto the cool waters of Canabo Falls. One of Paracelis’ beautiful waterfalls is Canabo Falls. Here, locals and even some tourists come to relax. Sometimes when the water running through the stone is little, you can wander in the cave underneath.

As you go further up, you can view another water wonder which is Malinsawang Falls. It is composed of more than five pools that you can choose from when you want to swim.

These places were given to us by the Almighty. It is now our duty and responsibility to take good care of it. So as we welcome the year of less restriction let’s not restrict ourselves from traveling and seeing new places.

My Pandemic Experience

On the year 2019, a deadly virus took thousands of people’s live causing the world to stop.

Going out was not allowed unless it was necessary. This means that going to school and meeting with my friends was entirely impossible. I have nothing to do besides playing and answering my modules. Good thing, my parents are there to help in answering my book-like modules. And this goes on until late 2022.

As time goes on, the community slowly comes together. Vaccines were now available and the government urged the people to be vaccinated for life as we know pre-pandemic hopefully return.

A new term was coined to describe life post-pandemic which is the new normal. In this setting, we have to wear facemasks, carry sanitizer all the time, and distance ourselves from other people in public places. Even eating becomes an inconvenience especially when eating out because not all restaurants allow you sit together.

The year 2023 comes around and finally more people are allowed to get out. Schools are now open. I finally get to see my teachers and my classmates. I hope this stays for a long time.

The UnforgettableMount Kupapey

It was then in December of 2021 when my parents and had our vacation at Malicgong, Bontoc, Mountain Province.

One morning at around 4:00 am, my parents and I together with my uncles and aunts began hiking from favrey going to Mount Kupapey. It was very cold during that time. While on our way to the top of the mountain, I was amazed by the well-preserved pine tress, wild flowers and other plants preset on that mountain.

When we reached the top of Mount Kupapey, I was already freezing due to the coldness of the place. It was my first time to experience these things in my life. I heard thr sound of the wind blowing the leaves of the pines.

It was agreat opportunity for me to view the sea of clouds and witness the sunrise. After the clouds went up to the sky, I enjoyed the freshness of the air while viewing the famous Malicgong Rice Terraces built by my ancestors like stairways to heaven.

Having visited Mount Kupapey is one of my happy moments. Truly, what an unforgettable Mount Kupapey.

Are we Ready to face in-person classes?

During the pandemic, faceto-face or in-person classes stopped. But now after two years, this school year, it has returned. This means I’ve got to meet my teachers and frineds at school.

Even if there is no more COVID, students, and teachers should still use facemasks, and sanitizers or wash their hands regularly to prevent the spread of not only the virus but

also other diseases. This was also reminded by the School Nurse and the Principal during the first day of the school year

Healthy food and water are the best friends of our body to keep it strong and away from other illnesses.

According to the experienced nutritionist and dietitians at Nutrition Australia what kids consume can have an impact on their emotions, mental health, and learning in addition to

their physical health.

Not only we are going to eat healthy food but feeling and smelling fresh keeps our mood happy. A bath or shower before going to school and before going to bed can also make the doctors away.

Even if we know that COVID less prevalent today, we should always take care ourselves. As they say “Prevention is better than cure.”

Cellphone: Yes or No?

Cellphone helps us to know information, watch videos or movies and to communicate with our love ones with just the tip of our fingers.

You can use cellphone it for emergency such when you have no ride to go home or when you need to know more of the lesson that you don’t understand. Sometimes when there is a word you don’t understand then you can use it to as a dictionary.

But it has side effects to. Some pupils are addicted playing in online games. Other people use it to bully or harass someone in the internet.

Cellphone are made to use this for own good. It is created to make our easier however if misused makes it bad.

Checking the Zonal Meet

It was a Saturday event. Although I should be playing Mobile Legends with my cousins I stretch my arms and went to take bath. My father woke up early too and was very kind to drop me off at our school.

This is the day I have to compete in the Zonal Meet in our school. All the athletes from other schools in Paracelis North District came to put their place in the different sports events. I am one of them.

You see, I love playing chess since it was introduced to me by my aunt. It is a nerve-wracking game but that is its charm. That’s what makes it more thrilling to play, to think, and to strategize.

My first opponent was very serious in his game. I was a bit nervous since he is good with his moves. I have to carefully plan my moves to beat him in this round. Fortunately, I did. But I still have a long way to go. I still have to pass 2-3 opponents from other schools.

The second opponent I faced was a small skinny boy who was eating during the match. I smiled because he seems friendly. However, while we are playing it was getting harder to beat him. I was very nervous but I still have to think. I thought of the different moves and strategies before moving my next piece on the board. But, alas, I still lost.

I played with other chess players from other schools after that.

The Zonal Meet 2023 day ends. My father and I were going home. I kept thinking on the way home the things I would have done during the match. Not that I have regrets but I to practice more.

The following Monday, our coaches announced the names of the District Meet Qualifiers, I gladly stand there. So happy I am still able to go on with the game.

Six pupils from Paracelis Central School were able to secure a place in the Provincial Meet 2023 after the Paracelis District Meet held on March 11.

The Provincial Qualifiers are Zhyle Baguiwan for Discuss Throw Boys, Carl Jade Lagget for Javelin Boys, Frances Lou Maglia for 100m Girls, Rhianne Tongngao for Discuss Throw Girls, Randolf Manao and Rica Jane Lumichao for Chess.

PCS dominates Zonal Meet 2023

Paracelis Central School dominates the Zonal Meet after garnering 6 Golds, 3 Silvers, and 3 Bronze on March 4.

After two years of hiatus, young athletes from different schools of Paracelis North District gather together at Paracelis Central School ground not only to compete but to build their teamwork, leadership and cooperation skills.

Zhyle Baguiwan, Grade 6 pupil, grabbed Gold in Discuss Throw while Bronze in Shotput. Carl Jade Lagget took Gold in Jevelin Throw in Boys Category. Rhianne Tongngao, Grade 6, took Gold in Discuss Throw while Akiko Delos Santos, Grade 6, took Bronze in Shotput in Girls Category.

Rica Jane Lumichao, Grade 6, topped the Chess Girls Category while Randolf W. Manao, Grade 5, placed Second in Chess Boys Category.

Frances Lou Maglia outrun other schools to gold in 100 m Running Event in Grils Category while Johnloyd Baccodong placed third in Boys Category. However, in 200 meter Running Event Baccodong took Gold while Niko Ilacad took Bronze.Trisha Acapen and Kreshna Talawec placed second and third respectively in 400 m.
