Since its founding in 1974, the Land Council has effectively protected more than 1,000 of acres of land. Of the properties which were purchased outright, most have now been conveyed to other Nantucket conservation groups, particularly the Nantucket Conservation Foundation and Nantucket Islands Land Bank, which are equipped to manage large tracts of land.

And when we are rescued, we will go to his place on Lake Como. What is your favorite beach on Island? Hands down Fat Ladies Beach. I have been going there when it was originally called “Fat Girls,” but then the usual crowd became Ladies, hence “Fat Ladies Beach.”
What is your Favorite Island Meal? Beet salad, grilled shrimp or scallops, accompanied by a great bottle of Pinot Grigio at Cinco. What is your favorite benefit to living yearround on Nantucket? I have lived on Nantucket year round for over 30 years. (how could that be?) This is the most giving community, and always there for you in time of need. The most special gift is my lifelong friendships.

What was the first house you bought, and why? The first house that I purchased on the island was a duplex on Pine Grove Lane. I was in my late 20s, and with the apartment income, it became very affordable. I think I paid $167,000 for it at the time. Who has been the biggest influence on your life? What lessons did they teach you? My sister, Nancy, passed away from pancreatic cancer after a three-year battle.When she was diagnosed, they gave her three months. I had just given birth to my son.The lesson is that life is way too short, and sometimes very unfair. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Live everyday like it is your last. Confirm your love. And, remember that people don’t remember you for what you said or what you did, but how you made them feel.
