NOTEFROMTHEMAYOR
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Citizens of Nassau Bay,
I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope you had a wonderful Holiday Season We have much to look forward to in 2025. In 2024, City Council has focused its attention on Infrastructure, Beautification, Recovery from Hurricane Beryl, Marine Safety by establishing boating No Wake Zones, Economic Development, as well as fixing the long-term problem of pay equity for our Police Officers I appreciate many of the comments that the improvements we have made to the City have become obvious To date we have completed over 10 linear miles of underground water and sanitary line repairand replacement, 65 significant city street repairs, over 7000 dead plants removed and replanted including 25 majestic palms on Nasa Rd 1 Our Parks have never looked better than they do now, but Swan Lagoon and Founder’s Park have finally been given the attention they deserved.
Early in 2025, you will see your tax dollars at hard work once again improving our City Improvements you will see include:
In January, we will begin the replacement and enlargement of the main water line and header system that runs from Saturn Lane to the Hilton Hotel up on Nasa Rd 1. This investment is primarily to enhance the overall water pressure across the city to maintain our ability to fight fires at the highest level and which reduces the insurance rates you pay to protect your home
In February, we will plant the last addition of Medjool Palms totaling 32 more palms to be placed from Upper Bay Rd towards the Hilton as well as fill in spaces to complete the earlier plantings This should conclude the Palm replacements for Nasa Rd. 1.
In March, we will begin the last and final repair/replacement of 4 linear miles of underground water distribution lines. This will bring the overall replacement to 14 linear miles of pipe repairs in our less than 2 square mile city Our underground infrastructure will now be the newest infrastructure in all of Clear Lake and hopefully we can say goodbye to water main breaks.
In April, we will begin repairing over 10 identified City Street repairs, replacement as well as begin the refurbishment of our City Water Tower both inside and out. The Water Tower repair will keep us from having to replace what would be a new $3million Tower
There will also be continued improvements over the entire year for our Parks which will include a new ADA merry go round in David Braun Park, a new boat dock on the creek side of David Braun Park as well as more Moon Trees and other park improvements
Lastly I believe we will see 3 main areas of Economic Development to our City These 3 areas are: A new Dialysis Facility at the entrance of Upper Bay and Nasa Rd 1 where the old Shell station and repair shop stood; the repair and renovation of the Luby’s restaurant into an upscale family sit down restaurant and bar; and finally, the repair and renovation of the Hilton Hotel to restore this property to a proper Resort Hotel most likely not as a Hilton property.
I am also very glad to report that the City’s financial position is at the strongest level in our history all while we have endeavored to complete the largest reinvestment back into our City to what will exceed $25 million when we are finished Much thanks goes to your elected City Council and especially our City Staff for what we all see as progress to our City These achievements came to us working as a team and working with a united purpose to make Nassau Bay a better neighborhood Thanks also goes to our many citizens for pointing out to Council and Staff where we can improve and most importantly for volunteering in all the events that make us Nassau Bay

440 registrations this year! We had our biggest turnout ever for the Reindeer Fun Run on December 14th Everyone enjoyed the goodies and activities at sponsor booths before and after the race. We warmed up to DJ music, had photo ops with Sparky the Firedog and the Chick-fil-A cow, and mingled with friends Mayor Johnson started the race, and men, women, kids, and dogs were on their way. Along the 2k route, kids searched for prized hand-painted rocks courtesy of Nassau Bay Rocks.
About 20 minutes later Luke Birkenfeld crossed the finish line as the overall 5k Run winner Logan Smith finished a close second and won the Male 11-17 Division. Melissa Bittick was the overall female winner. The winners of the team trophy were, again, Dave’s Deer Congratulations to all runners and walkers, fast and slow. Clear Creek Environmental Foundation’s Annual Clear Creek and Nassau Bay Peninsula Cleanup will be held Saturday, February 15th
This cleanup is vital to keeping our waters and the peninsula a clean and safe place for people and wildlife Each year, volunteers pick up tons of waste, including everything from plastic bottles and paper to washing machines and abandoned boats.
Please volunteer with us on February 15th for our annual cleanup! There is no need to sign up in advance; just show up at the Nassau Bay peninsula entrance gate to clean the peninsula or at the League City boat ramp to clean up Clear Creek
Nassau Bay Peninsula – Meet at 8:00am at the peninsula gate. Trash bags, trash grabbers, and bottled water will be provided, but please bring your own gloves and wear appropriate clothing and shoes for possible wet and muddy conditions. If later works better, you can join volunteers as your schedule allows, grab a trash bag at the entrance, and strike out on your own Cleanup usually lasts until 12pm. If you can only work for an hour, we would be grateful. It is a great way to see our beautiful peninsula on a closeup basis.
