STEP UP T0 LEARNING: A NEW LAUNCH FOR THE BAY AREA

"Step Up to Learning" began on October 9 and runs through November 13. It is a great opportunity for people who are life-long learners to take advantage of free classes Being held at the Bay Area Community Center in Clear Lake Park, classes are being offered each Wednesday from 11:00 am to noon for the six-week series

The presentations are being made by Clear Lake people, many of whom each of you may know November 6 will feature Helen Swiff Goodman, who will be giving an "Intro to American Sign Language," with the opportunity to learn some of the basic signs and to be able to practice it with others in the class. Our presentation finale for this series will be Jill Reason, the Executive Director of the Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre. She will be giving us a view of "Behind The Nutcracker," along with some of the dancers in roles for the upcoming production of The Nutcracker

The series started with Tina Farrell, talking about her fascinating book "Miracles in the Pacific during WWII". It is the true story of her father, who was held as a Prisoner of War The next week was followed by NASA’s Joyce Abbey, who gave us the information about "The SystemsGo Aerospace Project " This is a project of which you may have never heard and enlightened each of us Then, Director Tim Pylate from ABNC gave us a background of Armand Bayou and brought a few surprises. As Halloween approached, Sally Jordan spooked us with a Halloween story, followed by a lesson on the “how-tos” of telling your own short story The next six week series will begin on January 7, 2025 While reservations are not mandatory, they will be appreciated by the local organizers of this great new endeavor To let us know you plan to come, send an e-mail to: reservationsSUTL@gmail.com

They will also allow for a climate-controlled, 12- month growing season Eden will join us for a planting party and initial instructions in aeroponics on Saturday, November 9 in Krist Hall at 9 30 am If you are interested in the technology or being a part of the Eden grow team, consider joining us for the assembly! The City of Nassau Bay Utility Department provides residents with the opportunity to make a voluntary donation to the Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department (NBVFD) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with the payment of each water bill. The departments use the donations for tools, resources, and capital items to better provide emergency resources to our residents

During the past fiscal year, the NBVFD and EMS were able to use this money to purchase a rescue cutter, 32-inch spreader, 2018 Yamaha VX Limited watercraft, narcotics mini safe, ambulance mounting system, installation of ambulance stretcher, oxygen tank holder, and needle set plus stabilizer.

The Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department had a blast meeting and playing football with the local children at the recent Open House.
