SEEKING MEMBERS FOR THE MARITIME SAFETY COMMITTEE

The City Council of Nassau Bay is forming a new Maritime Safety Committee and invites five residents to join This committee will advise on marine and waterway safety issues, as well as related regulations and standards

Committee Details

Members: Five Nassau Bay residents

Term Length: Each member will serve a two-year term

Ex-Officio Members: Chief of Police and Fire Chief (or their designees)

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT: BECOME A BLOCK CAPTAIN

Save the date! National Night Out is Tuesday, October 1, 2024 National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships It is intended to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are invested in the unity and quality of their communities We want to bring the block parties and cookouts to the City so there is a better opportunity for residents to meet those who live next to them If you are interested in being a Block Captain please visit the City’s website and register online at https://www nassaubay com/491/National-Night-Out by September 24, 2024 Nassau Bay Police Officers, Volunteer Fire Department, and City Staff will make their rounds to visit each registered event location For any questions, please call us at 281 333 4211 ext 2212

NASSAUBAYGARDENCLUB

Nassau Bay Garden Club starts its new year with its first meeting Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Mayor Phil Johnson and Interim City Manager, Paul Lopez, will give an update on the city and what to look forward to in the future. The meeting begins at 9:30 am with refreshments and some time to socialize followed by the program at 10:00 am and the Club’s business meeting

The meeting will be held at Nassau Bay’s City Hall and is open to members and guests The Nassau Bay Garden Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month from September through May. Doors open at 9:30 am with the programs beginning at 10:00 am at the Nassau Bay City Council Room in City Hall, 1800 Space Park Drive Members and the public are always welcome to attend

EMPLOYEESPOTLIGHT

Nassau Bay Police Department Office Manager/Administrative Assistant Tiffany Hatton celebrated her 20-year work anniversary on June 5.

Tiffany began her time in Nassau Bay as a dispatcher and is now responsible for records management, dispatch liaison, Chief’s Administrative Assistant, and the Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) for CJIS Compliance with DPS and FBI records services, as well as numerous other jobs

Tiffany’s experience and knowledge of the department operations, the citizens and the community make her a highly valuable and vital part of the department Chief Cromie often jokes that he may have the title of Chief, but Tiffany is the one who keeps the department moving forward

Thank you, Tiffany, for doing what you do for the Nassau Bay community, the citizens, and the police department. Congratulations on your 20 years of service to our community.

The Nassau Bay Women’s Tennis Association began in 1974. This is our 50™ year of playing. Jenna Moose was the original president. Terry Kuchera moved to Nassau Bay in 1963 and was one of the founding members. She still lives here with her daughter.

Betty Brown who started in 1994 has just recently quit playing with the group Marion Herndon started playing with the group in 1988 and is currently serving as chair of the board.

NBWTA celebrated the 30th anniversary at West Mansion, the 40 at Windemere Mansion The association has changed with the times. The computer changed the way we score and communicate. We are delighted to be able to play in Nassau and in appreciation for use of the courts, NBWTA has donated money over the years for some small improvements and in support of the stray dog facility next door to the courts We welcome players at any time to come join us contact Geri at +1 (281) 381)-0508.

The Nassau Bay Nauticats finished off their 60th season as the Clear Creek Swim League Division II Champions. The team celebrated the anniversary of the team with an awards banquet and events at the pool on Sunday, August 11

The swimmers from the Championship meet capped off the successful season by leading the please at the City Council meeting on Monday, August 12. Congratulations to the Nauticats for 60 years in our community and for such a great season!!

ST.PAULCATHOLICCHURCH EARLYCHILDHOODPROGRAM

Registration for St Paul Catholic Church’s Early Childhood Program fall session is open and a few spots remain in our 1year old, 2-year old, and Pre-k 3 classes. We accept children 1 year old (must be walking) through Pre-K 4 and although our Pre-K 4 class is full, we currently have a waitlist available. Our teacher-to-student ratio is one of the best in the area. We offer many exciting learning opportunities, including an introduction to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in our STEM Center. Additional programs include Wiggle World, Library, and Chapel. DEBRISREMOVALUPDATE

Hurricane Beryl brought winds that caused a lot of vegetation damage throughout our city As soon as the storm passed, city staff was in communication with our contractual debris removal and monitoring companies, making plans to begin clean-up as soon as possible We appreciate the community teamwork that took place immediately following the storm, with neighbors helping neighbors remove debris from their yards The debris removal is almost complete, and our beautiful Nassau Bay will be back to normal!

The City Council adopted an Ordinance creating a Maritime Safety Committee to advise the City Council as to marine and waterway safety, related topics, and regulations. Said Committee shall consist of five (5) Nassau Bay residents who shall serve (4) (2) year terms. The Chief of Police and the Fire Chief, (or their designees) shall also serve as ex-officio members.

The City Council adopted an ordinance Amending Ordinance No.94-437 and Municipal Code Chapter 22 – Waterways, Article II. Water Safety Regulations, Section 22-23. Definitions; Section 22-27, Boating Regulations (C) and (L) of the Municipal Code concerning waterways and water safety regulations.

The City Council adopted an ordinance Amending Municipal Code Chapter 8.5 Flood Damage Prevention Section 8.5-21 Appointing the City Manager or his designee as Floodplain Administrator.

The City Council approved the Annual Work Plan and EDC Proposed Budget, for Fiscal Year 2025.

The City Council accepted the Tax Year 2024 Truth in Taxation for the anticipated collection rate, debt taxes collected in excess for preceding year, and total amount of refunds for preceding year.

Wiley is a 6-month-old German Shepherd mix who is current on vaccinations and is heartworm negative Wiley loves playing with all the other dogs in the Animal Shelter, loves to play in the water, and will stick his entire head under the water Walks great on a leash and is just a sweet dog after everything he has been through before ending up with us For more information on Wiley or any of the other animals in the Animal Shelter please contact Troy at 832-574-0877
