BE PREPARED FOR FLOODING INCIDENTS
All properties in Nassau Bay are subject to flooding due to heavy rains and storm surge from tropical events. Follow the tips below to protect yourself and your property.
· Protect your home’s foundation by making sure your downspouts drain away from your house.
· Buy flood insurance. Don’t delay - there is a 30-day waiting period before a policy takes effect.
· Berms and other barriers that divert water onto other properties are prohibited. Play it safe, and don’t move dirt or sand without a permit.
· Report broken silt fences at construction sites. The sediment from these developments can clog our waterways and lead to flooded homes.
· Make an emergency supply kit for your home Register with the City’s Emergency Alert System, and follow the City of Nassau Bay on Facebook to see all watches, warnings, and other weather-related information issued by the National Weather Service.
· If you encounter a flooded roadway that is blocked off with barricades, remember – Turn Around, Don’t Drown.®
