So what's the story behind Witchy Moms? In 2012, my husband died in a work accident at our business. Our daughters were 5yrs & 2yrs old at the time. I was a 34yr old widow. As one could imagine my entire world changed in an instant. I felt so alone & scared. I had no idea how I was going to move forward. Fast forward to September 2016. I sat in a safe house with my 3 daughters hiding from my abusive partner. I felt so scared & so alone. I had no idea what I was going to do. Once again my life was turned totally upside down. I could not believe that once again I was in the same type of situation- alone, scared & having to rebuild my life. I knew one thing was for sure. I was going to heal & so were my kids. This was NOT how this story was going to end. Doctors prescribed pills & sent me to talk therapy both when my husband died AND when we left our abuser. I knew there had to be another way to get through it, so I spent 3 years discovering all of the healing modalities I could find. I learned so much & found relief & most of all hope that we were in fact going to make it. I also realized that I could not be the only one going through this. There had to be other women like me struggling & looking for answers. In April 2020, I started the Witchy Moms in hopes of finding other likeminded women. And now here we are 3 years later... I have the honor of walking with women each day who have decided to rewrite their story. I am beyond grateful for this journey.

For the Week of April 22: After the intensity of last week, this week, things quiet down. There are no planets changing signs this week. There are only a handful of major transits, and most are helpful. The 25th is an excellent day to tackle serious or complicated chores, and on the 27th, you may find that inspiration strikes. We did begin Taurus Season last week, and the Sun being in the sign of the bull encourages all of us to slow down and invite more pleasure into our day. Aries: This is when you are focused on security, what helps you feel safe and comfortable, and what you value. If you set your mind to making a financial plan for the year ahead, you just might find that it pays off later Taurus: You're gaining a clearer understanding of who you are as the Sun illuminates your inner rebirth. This clarity helps you take spontaneous action toward the new and exciting to carve out your path forward. Gemini: You may feel like retreating from the world and spending time alone. Use this time to reflect on the past, dream of the year ahead, and refill your energetic cup.

Cancer: Your focus is shifting to your community and friends. Groups and gatherings are important to you now, and you feel sociable and lighthearted.

Leo: Now is the best time of the year to move forward in your career. Recognition and responsibility go hand in hand as the Sun illuminates this part of your chart.

Virgo: Adventure calls your name as you seek new experiences and more meaning in your life. Travel, education, learning new hobbies, and exploring your spirituality attract your attention. Libra: This is a time of deep transformation, as the sun highlights your sense of personal power. The next month is great for therapy, shadow work, and anything that helps clear the cobwebs out of the mental closet. Scorpio: You'll find your power by joining with others now - both in your personal and professional life. Cultivate a sense of partnership in your relationships and be open about voicing your needs. Sagittarius: The stars are giving you the green light to shake up your daily routine and put some nourishing routines in place. Attention to your habits now sets the foundation for your future growth in all areas of your life. Capricorn: After sticking close to home and nesting, you want to stretch your legs and express yourself. Creative adventures take precedence now, and you’re encouraged to follow your spontaneity regarding play, pleasure, and creativity. Aquarius: Your focus turns to your home and family and creating a safe, nurturing nest to retreat to. You desire to put down roots and feel a sense of belonging. Now is a time to go inward and nourish yourself. Pisces: This is a time perfect for making new connections, connecting with old friends, networking, and collaborating with others. Speaking up and using your voice has a more substantial impact now, and you share your message with ease.

Crystal Healing

Pseudoscience or Overlooked Truth?

By Sara Villani Long before crystals were considered static pieces of home decor or fashion accessories, people used them for healing and protection. In fact, the practice of using crystals for somatic and spiritual enhancement spans almost universally across all ancient cultures. Sumerians used crystals in their magical formulas, Greek warriors would rub themselves with ground crystals prior to battle, Egyptians were the original pioneers of jewelry and amulets, Chinese used gemstone needles for rebalancing Prana during acupuncture, Maori would use crystals to protect themselves from psychic attacks. The list goes on.

There are also a myriad of legends about crystals that appear to be capable of more sinister influence. Tales of legendary stones, usually with mysterious origins, that are allegedly cursed. The Hope Diamond, the Black Orlov, and the Dehli Sapphire (which is actually an amethyst) are examples of famous ‘cursed’ crystals, with sometimes century-long trails of misfortune befalling their owners. Many of these surviving specimens have been retired from private ownership and are now housed in museums around the world. Why is crystal lore a universal truth throughout the history of mankind? Is it just primitive rubbish or has the answer to this question been somehow lost in time, buried under layers of modern history and generations of hubris? Let us broach this topic with three main questions. The first: Do crystals have electromagnetic properties? The second: Do humans have electromagnetic properties? And, knowing that the answer to both preceding questions is yes: Is it really that far-fetched to theorize that humans and crystals have the ability to influence one another via some form of energy exchange? To think that humans (as electromagnetic beings) and crystals (as natural substances that can alter electromagnetic energy) cannot interact whatsoever might be a modern day scientific blind spot. I’m just saying. The real question then becomes: how does crystal healing work?

What is Crystal Healing? Crystal healing is a form of energy work in which crystals are used as vibrational aid for our own energy field. Healing crystals can be used for enhancement of lifestyle, environment, spirituality, physicality, and so on. The professional practice of crystal healing usually involves a combination of: the reading of your natal chart, chakras or aura, holistic consultation, and physical examination. Things like lunar cycle, planetary alignments and numerology are also sometimes taken into consideration. But what’s so special about crystals? Well, crystals are some of the oldest materials ever found on this planet and there is also a growing body of research around crystals of extraterrestrial origin. Yes, you read that correctly. Science is currently identifying and analyzing crystals from other parts of the universe too! Crystals have unique elemental constitutions, conditions of formation, and crystalline structures; and each specimen, its own individuality- much like human fingerprints. They are also some of the strongest materials on this planet. This is because the atoms of most crystals are held together by covalent bonds- the strongest atomic bonds in nature. The atoms of a crystal are arranged in orderly, repeating patterns called crystal lattices, of which there are seven distinct systems. This is the key to their magic. And not all crystalline materials are shiny rocks! Sugar, salt, metal, and snowflakes are also crystals in their own right.

The Special Properties of Crystals Crystals are miraculous because they are endowed with the ability to transmute energy. We use them industrially in lasers, watches, and cell phones for that reason. Let’s take a look at a few of the electromagnetic properties that we know crystals have. Pyroelectricity is the ability of certain crystals to generate electricity when exposed to temperature fluctuations. (i.e. tourmaline, quartz) Piezoelectricity is the ability of certain crystals to generate electricity when placed under mechanical stress. (i.e. quartz, topaz, bone) Triboluminescence is the ability of certain crystals to generate light when placed under mechanical stress. (i.e. quartz, calcite, fluorite) Fluorescence is the ability of certain crystals to glow when exposed to UV light. Phosphorescence is prolonged fluorescence that remains even after the source of illumination has been switched off. (i.e. diamond, ruby, opal) Photochromism is the ability of certain crystals to change colors in different types of light. (i.e. alexandrite, garnet, sapphire) Pleochroism is the ability of certain crystals to appear as two or more colors when viewed from different angles. (i.e. iolite, tanzanite, andalusite) Crystals are also variably conductive and insulative- electrically and thermally. Meaning, they can block and conduct electricity and heat. These properties of crystals are uncontested in the scientific community, but can they really affect and influence our own energy?

The debate seems to lie more so in the electromagnetic properties of the human body. Humans emit electromagnetic energy- powered by our hearts, running through our blood. The energy emitted from our bodies, called black body radiation, is in the infrared range. This is another scientific fact, though there is still fierce debate around the relationship between electromagnetism and consciousness. What’s up for debate: Is consciousness the electromagnetism in our bodies? Does the brain influence an individual’s electromagnetic energy field? Are emotions and thoughts chemical, electrical, or both? Intention & Placebo Effect- One in the Same? Without taking a deep dive into complex theories of quantum mechanics and consciousness, I would simply like to propose that the secret ingredients to crystal healing are intention and practice. With those, one may be able to use crystals to influence their energy and the energy in their environment. Intention can be a powerful force when used correctly. This notion is surprisingly corroborated by peer-reviewed scientific research. Even modern day scientists are now exploring the ways that direct intention affects reality on physical and atomic levels. But… How does one use intention correctly? It can be easy to mistake intention setting as goal setting, but there is a distinct difference. Of course you need to set clear goals, but goals are about doing and intentions are about being. Goals are set in the future, while intentions are set in the here and now. Goals are about taking action, and intention is about surrendering to the process. There are many ways to practice intention setting. Meditation, breath work, microdosing, and prioritizing healthy lifestyle choices are all ways that we can work on this skill. To learn crystal healing, this means practicing those techniques physically with your crystals.

A Quick How-To For Beginners Doing a little research beforehand can’t hurt, but there are no wrong answers about what stone can help with what. The number one rule in crystal healing is to use your intuition when selecting crystals to work with. The same goes for all aspects of your personal practice- Do whatever feels right for you. Once you’ve selected a crystal, it’s time to cleanse and recharge it. These simple rituals are said to clear and program any energies within the stone. Popular cleansing rituals include soaking crystals in salt water, giving them a sound bath, and leaving them in natural light. Popular charging rituals include breath work, leaving your crystals under the full moon, and smudging them with herbs and incense. Try to clear and charge your crystals at least once a lunar cycle. Once your crystal has been refreshed, physically hold it and set your intention. That is- decide and designate what it is you’d like the crystal to help with. Crystals can’t directly cure a disease you have or guarantee you a winning lottery ticket but if you put good energy into them, they will promote the flow of good energy around you too. Just having them around your home, on your desk at work, or in your pocket are easy ways to start incorporating these energies into your daily life.

Today, there is so much electromagnetic static around us that perhaps it is clouding up the message from Mother Earth. We are innately connected to this planet and the things that come from it. Crystals are revered for their beauty and provenance but we so easily overlook their metaphysical gifts. They are some of the most magical materials on our planet! Perhaps our planetary ancestors, living under the stars and not being constantly bombarded by electromagnetic frequencies from electronics, had a much better grip on the abilities of these natural substances. Isn’t that the irony of it all. There are many ways to practice intention setting. Meditation, breath work, microdosing, and prioritizing healthy lifestyle choices are all ways that we can work on this skill. To learn crystal healing, this means practicing those techniques physically with your crystals.

Permission to

Grieve

by Cathy Sharpe

As human beings, we all experience loss at some point in our lives. Whether it’s the death of a loved one, the end of a close relationship, the loss of a job, or the disappointment of unfulfilled dreams, grief is a natural and inevitable part of the human experience. The truth is, however, that grief is not something that can be rushed, ignored, or avoided. In order to heal from a loss and move forward in life, we must allow ourselves to grieve fully and deeply. Grief is not an issue or problem to be solved, it isn't temporary, it is not a moment in time, it's a moment that will stay with us. It's a pain that sits deep deep in our bone marrow. It's just there and it sits heavy. This experience is tattooed on your soul. It changes who you are. It changes who you always thought you were. While grief is a normal response to loss, many of us struggle with the process of grieving. We may feel pressure to “get over it” quickly or to keep our emotions under wraps. We may try to distract ourselves from our pain with work or other activities, or we may numb ourselves with drugs or alcohol. Grief is an emotional response to loss. When we experience loss, our lives are fundamentally altered. It can be the loss of a loved one, a job, a pet, a home, or any other significant person or thing in our lives. Grieving is a natural process we go through to recover from loss, which can take such a different amount of time depending on how we manage our emotions. There are so many people who feel that they are not allowed to grieve, or that they have to hide their emotions. This can be reinforced by society, the workplace, or other reasons that expect people to ‘move on’ within a certain timeframe. Allowing ourselves permission to grieve is a crucial aspect of the healing process, and it is essential that we learn to be compassionate with ourselves in this difficult process. But how do we give ourselves permission to grieve?

Here are some steps we can take: 1. Recognize that grief is a normal process One of the first steps in giving ourselves permission to grieve is to understand and accept that grief is a normal and necessary process. It is a natural response to loss, and it allows us to process our emotions and come to terms with the reality of our situation. 2. Allow yourself to feel your emotions Grief is a complex and a whole body emotion, and it can manifest in many different ways. Some people may feel sadness and despair, while others may feel anger or guilt. Some people may experience physical symptoms like fatigue, headaches, or loss of appetite. Whatever your particular experience of grief may be, it’s important to allow yourself to feel your emotions. This means not trying to stuff your feelings down or distract yourself from them, but instead acknowledging them and letting them flow freely. 3. Give yourself permission to take time off When we are grieving, it can be difficult to maintain our regular routines and obligations. We may feel overwhelmed or exhausted, or we may be unable to concentrate on our work or other responsibilities. In these situations, it’s important to give ourselves permission to take time off. Whether that means taking a few days off work, canceling social plans, or simply spending some quiet time alone, it’s important to prioritize our own needs and take care of ourselves during the grieving process. 4. Seek support from others Grief can be an isolating experience, but it’s important to remember that we don’t have to go through it alone. Seeking support from others can be incredibly helpful in the healing process.

This may mean talking to a trusted friend or family member, joining a support group, or seeking professional counseling. Whatever the form of support, having someone to talk to and share our experiences with can help us feel less alone and more understood. 5. Practice self-care During times of grief, it’s important to prioritize self-care. This means taking care of our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Some ways to practice self-care during grief might include: - Eating nutritious foods - Getting enough sleep - Engaging in physical activity - Practicing mindfulness or meditation - Deep belly breathing - Engaging in creative activities that bring us joy - Spending time in nature - Seeking spiritual or religious practices that bring us comfort By prioritizing self-care, we can help ourselves to manage the symptoms of grief and feel more grounded and centered during a difficult time. The importance of permission to grieve cannot be overstated. It is essential to remember that grief is a natural process, and there is no right or wrong way to grieve. Everyone will experience grief differently, and the way we grieve can also change over time. It is crucial that we are compassionate to ourselves and others in this process, allowing ourselves to cry, scream, or express our emotions in whatever way is helpful for us. By doing this, we can release our emotions and begin to process our loss, leading to a healthier experience of grief overall.

Permission to grieve also means that we do not have to ‘move on’ from the loss as quickly as possible. It is possible to grieve a loss for as long as we need to, and it is essential that we do not force ourselves to ‘get over it’ or suppress our feelings. Rushing the grieving process can result in incomplete healing, leading to further mental health issues in the future. Giving ourselves permission to grieve is a crucial part of the healing process. By recognizing that grief is a normal response to loss, allowing ourselves to feel our emotions, taking time off when needed, seeking support from others, and practicing self-care, we can move through the process of grief with more ease and grace. .
