NCBB, SCARLET GUARD TO HOST ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE In partnership with the UNL’s Scarlet Guard, the Nebraska Community Blood Bank is set to host the fifth annual February blood drive. Lincoln (Nebraska) Sunday – For the past four years on National Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day, UNL’s Scarlet Guard has hosted a blood drive in cooperation with the Nebraska Community Blood Bank (NCBB). This year’s blood drive will be held on February 28 at the Wick Alumni Center (1520 R Street), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni are welcomed, and encouraged, to donate. After low turnouts over past years, the NCBB is expecting a strong turnout this year. Andy Detlefsen, NCBB Board of Directors Chair, said, “After declining participation in recent years, we are excited and looking forward to having a great turnout this year. There is currently an urgent need for blood, and we believe that donors will understand this and be willing to donate blood and get the word out about the blood drive.” The Nebraska Community Blood Bank is currently in urgent need of Type O-, B+, and B- blood donors. Each donor will receive a NCBB t-shirt, along with free refreshments after the donation process. The donation process takes about an hour, with the blood draw process only takes five to seven minutes. Scarlet Guard, one of UNL’s largest student organizations, is the university’s student alumni association. The organization was founded in 1974 and has been working to make their member’s college experience as wholesome as possible, by making life-long memories with several events, networking opportunities, and one-of-a-kind traditions. Nebraska Community Blood Bank is an independent nonprofit dedicated to serving people who need life-saving blood transfusions by supplying them with blood from generous donors. With providing a constant blood supply and blood related healthcare facilities, the NCBB has been saving lives in our local community since 1968. ### For more information, please contact please contact Jessica Sodeke, Communications Coordinator, at (402) 486-9413 or jsodeke@ncbb.org.
