Close House A golfers’ paradise, the Close House golf course in Northumberland is one of the most challenging new courses to be built and required an appropriate club house to match. _space group worked on the project for two years, creating a 1,000m2 purpose built luxury golf clubhouse and new 6,540 yard championship 18 hole golf course, which was opened by then world number one golfer Lee Westwood. Our team had to provide a solution that took into account a challenging site within grounds that comprise an area of designated green belt land, Grade II* listed Close House Mansion and are next to World Heritage Site, Hadrian’s Wall. The result is an inspiring presence that was deliberately kept to a modest size, opening up vistas within the landscape and yet also be a contemporary, eye-catching composition which nods to Close House Mansion’s 18th century origins.

BIGBIM is an initiative promoted and demonstrated by _space group BIG BIM takes Building Information Modelling further, moving beyond design and build, creating a single integrated data model that can be used for any project and works through four interlinked stages. BIG BIM challenges established procurement norms, pushing the industry to deliver at less cost, with less risk, less carbon and in less time. BIG BIM challenges us to think differently.

DEFINE & VALIDATE
By using all of the intelligent tools now available we are able to test and validate the parameters of a project before we embark on expensive design work.
PROTOTYPE & DESIGN
We use this stage to test the options and construct our buildings virtually. By prototyping, we can optimise the design and have real confidence in the delivery and operation of the facility.
At _space we believe everyone involved in producing buildings is an architect. This includes engineers, builders and surveyors alike. At _space, architecture is not a profession but a process. We call it total architecture.
MANUFACTURE & ASSEMBLY
Instead of constructing our buildings on site, with an off site investment we can manufacture each component individually, assembling them on site with instructions, not drawings.
OPERATE & MAINTAIN
We can test and predict the operation and maintenance of a facility long before it is complete. With real data of the building performance we can ensure the building functions to its potential.
At _space we have invested in a Virtual Building Site. We use a sophisticated Steelcase Media:scape table, which allows everyone involved in the process of total architecture to be around a single table sharing electronic data instantly via interconnected laptops. This allows construction to be tested cheaply and safely. This means our time on the real site is limited and predictable.

“I have worked with a variety of different designers over the past ten years, and I can sincerely say that Nat Glover is my favourite. Not only does she intuitively understand our briefs and deliver an end design that consistently exceeds our expectations - she is an absolute joy to work with.
Marcie MacLellan Managing Director Incontext Communications
I have worked with Nat for a number of years and unreservedly provide this testimonial. Her professionalism and initiative, often with challenging deadlines, has engendered genuine team working with great success. Her quality of work is exemplary and, from a commercial point of view, essential to ‘getting the message across’. Natalie is enthusiastic and dedicated; it is a reflection of her character that she is so well-respected by designers and clients alike.
