Caldorado III™ UTMB
®
BOUTIQUE COLUMBIA - 18 RUE PACCARD - CHAMONIX MONT-BLANC
edito Each year, since 2003, there have been more and more of you who attend the World Summit of trailrunning. Over the last 15 years, a magical event has taken root. From the shy applause of the incredulous spectators we have succeeded to triumphant arrivals which attract a public from all the horizons. The largest gathering of trail-running enthusiasts has developed from a slightly mad project imagined by a group of friends. From the 700 runners the first year, the UTMB® now welcomes 10 000 runners who come from 100 different countries. Everything has changed, but everything has stayed the identical. The apprehension on the starting line, the capacity of the runners to sublimate their efforts, the love of the mountains, the respect for nature, but also the opening to the world, the emotion on the finishing line... already 15 years and 4 letters which continue to bring us together.
U T M B
as in Ultra.
Ultra is knowing what we can realize both physically and mentally. Ultra is a competition with oneself. Few runners come to do the UTMB® to win. For the most part, they run against their own limits. By making this choice of the extreme they accept the confrontation of the unknown, doubts and difficulties but also the joy of of getting through to the end. They share these emotions with the other runners, with whom are often woven strong links, but also with you, the spectators all along the route who give them wings when they most need it.
as in Terrain. Along with the partner communes all is done to make this race an exceptional one. Uniting three countries around an event is unique of its kind. Behind this beautiful cohesion, there is the wish for you to have an extraordinary experience. We use all the material and human means at our disposition to make it exist, the 2 000 volunteers who come from 15 different countries, the 18 French, Italian and Swiss communes of the Mont-Blanc country unite to allow you to share beautiful moments of sport and mountain. On the ground, you also have a role to play in helping to make this event continue. That of helping us to protect this magnificent playground by having good gestures and the right reflexes towards the environment.
as in Magic.
There is something in the air during the UTMB®. A particular ambience reigns in the mountains and valleys, there is the mutual assistance at the refreshment posts and life bases, the conviviality shared by all the communes through which the race passes and along the paths around Mont-Blanc, without forgetting the crazy energy at the moment of the starts and finishes. This spirit is shared by all : runners, spectators, partners, service providers... Please help us keep alive this friendly and authentic UTMB®, sincere because it is anchored in its territory, that which is the Mont-Blanc country
as bienveillant (friendly).
You are enthusiasts, present when the going gets tough, you know how to find the right words for encouraging the runners. Your enthusiasm is communicative and your empathy contagious. If the UTMB® is such a convivial and qualitative event it is thanks to your presence and your friendliness all around Mont-Blanc.

The program is enlivened with photographs by: Michel Cottin, Alexandre Girbal, Franck Oddoux, Pascal Tournaire In order to be eco-responsible, this program has been printed on PEFG paper according to the norms ISO 14001 and EMAS, for sustainable forest management. The ink used is based on vegetable oils.
the DNa of UTMB® AN ORIGINAL CO-ORGANIZATION It is a peculiarity which is totally a part of the event’s history and success. For 15 years the UTMB® has been co-organized by an association, Les Trailers du Mont-Blanc, and a limited company, Autour du Mont-Blanc. In order to understand this novel organization, it is necessary to return to 2004 when an association Les Trailers du Mont-Blanc and a limited company Autour du Mont-Blanc were created, so as to develop together, each with their own domains of competence, the event by allying professionalism and enthusiasm. Solidarity, with respect for oneself and others but also equity, are a part of the numerous fundamental values shared by the organization’s team in order to stay on course and to make progress. To adapt to the evolution of the event, commissions were developed within the heart of the association in order to combine the thoughts and ideas So, this is how, according to the needs, the environment commission (2006), the medical commission (2007) and also the solidarity commission, the itinerary commission and the volunteers’ commission came to be set up. Each commission works alongside the organization to respect the values and ethics of the UTMB®. This historic cooperation between the three countries is also seen at the heart of the association, thanks to a co-chair ensured by Léon Lovey for Switzerland, Alberto Motta for Italy and Yann De Seréville for France.
Thank you
2000 volunteers as well as a great number of professionals are mobilized in order to make the event a success. French, Italian and Swiss inhabitants of the Mont-Blanc country or fans of the event who have come especially in order to participate in the organization, the success and quality of the event is due to them. The organizers and runners would like to give each and every one of them their very sincere thanks.

Start in Chamonix Monday, August 27th at 8 am
300 runners in teams of 2 or 3 Maximum time 152:30
This ultra-endurance pedestrian event leads participants on a large tour of Mont-Blanc (300km and 26 000m of ascent), taking high routes, without way-markers on the ground, which necessitates the sense of orientation on and off paths. Each year the route is different to allow for the discovery of the richness and diversity of paths in France, Italy and Switzerland within the Mont-Blanc massif.
The PTLÂŽ is realised in teams of 2 or 3 inseparable and loyally supportive people, without final ranking. The teams move through a rough, technically exacting and mentally and physically demanding mountain environment. The proposed course around Mont-Blanc, omnipresent, and its prestigious satellites, is this year still innovative and outstanding. You will cross little known areas, often difficult to access and with the most breath-taking views.

It is the optimum means for following your runners along the route but also from a distance. In 2018, the app has evolved and is producing new services amongst which the appearance of a premium version which allows for the reception of notifications of times of passage in real time.
3
following via sms
Follow all the runners, stage by stage, through text messages: registration available as from August 10th at www.utmbmontblanc.com. The advantage of following via text messages: being notified when a runner passes a check point; the text messages are sent to all phones/smartphones in the 3 countries, even if you do not have a “mobile” roaming package. Better informed, you can: • better plan your time for moving from point to another • better plan your next steps

SUPPORTING THE RUNNERS ALONG THE RACE ROUTE Between 2003 and today, what a long way we have come! From one single race in 2003 with 700 runners, to the event today which gathers 10 000 runners with 100 different nationalities and 7 events which each have their reason for existing. If the event has gained in notoriety, its values haven’t changed: fair-play, respect for others and the majestic outdoors, conviviality... For each person who participates in the UTMB® to have an unforgettable experience, a certain number of rules of the game are to be respected along the race itinerary:
SUPPORT AERA 500 M
Support and assistance prohibited
Tolerated assistance (One person)
500 M
accompanying ZONE Accompagnemet toléré / Assistance interdite
accompanying ZONE The runners, upon registering, have committed to respecting the regulations. Those accompanying them must do likewise to avoid putting them in the wrong with regard to their commitments. Reminder: running beside a participant outside of the zones, which are labelled as such in the proximity of the refreshment posts, is strictly forbidden and exposes the runner to a penalty of between 15 and 10 minutes. Concretely this penalty engenders a regression in the ranking and for certain runners it is the risk of not being within the time limit. Be careful not to confuse the zone of accompaniment (several hundred meters before and after each refreshment post, limits of which are clearly marked) with the zone of assistance (the area of the refreshment post reserved for this use). One could state that in the accompaniment zone you may only be accompanied not assisted!
Support and assistance prohibited
Support Area Personal assistance is tolerated only at certain refreshment posts, in the zone specifically reserved for this use, upon the presentation of an "Assistance" ticket (see below) and upon the agreement of the chief of post. This assistance can only be assured by one single person, without specific equipment other one than one bag of a volume of 30 litres maximum. Assistance given by a team professional, or any other professional person, medical or paramedical – even if they are a parent - is strictly forbidden.
FOLLOWING THE RACE LEADER ON THE GROUND At the request of the elite runners, we would like to remind you that it is essential that they are left to run serenely. Please help ensure that their unique preoccupation is the management of their effort: • Respect their race space so that they can run without being hampered • Avoid crowding around a runner so as not to disturb them in their progression and concentration. • Protect their tranquility and the equity of the race • Respect the regulations: the race stewards are present throughout the race route.

The UTMB® and ECO-RESPONSIBILITY Organizers, runners, accompanying persons and supporters, we are here because we love the mountains, be vigilant so as to protect our play-ground!
G.E.S.I.
BYOU
the eco-responsible charter of Grands Evénements Sportifs Internationaux
"Bring Your Own Utensils"
The UTMB® is one of first signatories of the Charter for EcoResponsibility in Big International Sporting Events (GESI). By doing this the organization reaffirms its engagement in favor of sustainable development. This charter is supported by the Minister for Sport, WWF France and 46 signatories (organizers of sporting events and equipment managers).
As from this year, the organization will not distribute any disposable cutlery, beakers/cups or bowls at the life bases and refreshment posts. Runners and volunteers are asked to carry their own utensils if they wish to eat hot food (soup, pasta). Why not do the same for your picnics?
Protected natural areas
Raising awareness
The UTMB® races go through protected nature zones in France, Italy and Switzerland. On the ground, please refer to the signaling system with the current rules. In any case, camping and campfires are forbidden, as is all use of drones
On the ground, you are going to meet the ambassadors for the environment who have the mission of accompanying you in the protection of the environment. In order to better understand the natural environment in which you evolve, we have created a specific signposting system. Feel free to ask the ambassadors!
RESPECT THE RULES OF THE NATURE RESERVES!
Carry your trash Supporters leave no trash along the race-route. Like the runners, think about carrying your trash in a designated bag.
