DRYING NATURAL HAIR Blow-drying is a heat styling process that elongates your natural curl pattern with either intense direct heat or indirect heat. It should be done sparingly. As a child and teenager my mother blow-dried our hair twice a month before pressing and I never experienced heat damage.
Today, I blow-dry even more infrequently at a maximum of twice a month. I own two types-- a handheld with attachments and a soft bonnet dryer. Let me share with you my thoughts on blowdryers on the market, show you the methods I use and also give you some useful tools to select your own preferred method of drying your natural tresses.
Let’s get started!

Gotta’ Have It!
• I want to blow dry quickly without burning my hair. I have a Belson brand soft bonnet dryer and a comb attachment dryer (the brand befuddles me), but I paid about $50 for each product. I stock up on comb attachments ($3/piece) so that when they break I can replace them on the spot. NEVER USE BROKEN COMBS on your hair. If your stylist does this, this should be a sign that he or she is not concerned about the HEALTH of your hair. • I also listen to reviews and sometimes change my mind based on several complaints from customers. I put more weight on positive comments than negative ones.

Tension
• I travel often so portability is a really convenient. The Belson folds up nicely in my suitcase.
• I want the dryer to get hot. I can control the heat with how close it gets to my scalp. There is nothing worse than having to spend 15 minutes on one section because the dryer won’t get hot enough. On the other hand, I’ve had a hairdresser have the dryer so hot I could feel my scalp being scalded. NEVER AGAIN! LOL! • I’m not concerned about a warranty. I pay for the best version according to my research knowing that returning beauty products is a hassle so I don’t expect to recover if I get a dud. You might have more fight in you! LOL!

BLOW-DRYING STEP BY STEP
1. Part detangled hair in 6 sections. 2. Bantu knot each section to keep out of the way or pin away with duckbill clips. 3. Apply setting spray, silkener and blow-dry crème. 4. Blow-dry one section at a time. 5. As soon as you finish a section, quickly place in a roller, bantu knot, twist or braid. 6. Cover with a silk scarf until your ready to go for longer lasting curls.
CrownofHisglory’s 3-Step Tension Method
1. Firmly grasp ends of detangled hair making a fist. 2. Start at the root, using a long tooth comb dryer attachment. Be sure to keep the comb pointed downwards to close the cuticle. 3. Seal with pure shea butter, crème moisturizer or organic products like my hand crafted Moisture Maven Mix
BONUS! TOOLS YOU CAN USE
WARNINGS & TIPS • Keep the dryer moving! • Never let the dryer rest on the hair. • Don’t “over dry” – your hair will be damaged and limp. • Protect your ends with your hand. Open your hand to do a few quick swipes just to smooth them down or just let them air dry. They’re too fragile and old to do that “young hair stuff”… LOL! • If wearing your hair straight, switch to a cool setting towards the end. • If wearing your hair curly, pin your hair up in bantu knots immediately after finishing a section.
