THE HORRORS OF HAIR LOSS

BREAKING

BREAKING SOLUTIONS •

Throw away boar bristle brushes! They wreak havoc on your hair. For the life of me I don’t understand how women keep using a brush when their hairline is receding to the middle of their head. If they’re not around you won’t be tempted to use them. Simply wet your hair until almost dripping, apply a crème or shea butter based product, top with oil, smooth with a plastic bristle brush and top with a silk scarf for a slicked down look.

Stop wearing braids around a thinning hair line. This should be a sin. It doesn’t not look good and your putting constant stress and friction on your newest growth. Just let your hair breath and rest with a wash and go.

Commit to multiple applications of a moisture products every day until you have multiple layers of moisture on every strand. Decide to deep condition with a quality conditioner once a week. Commit to listening to your hair. Like a baby, don’t wait for it to start screaming for milk. Anticipate the need and be prepared. Wear your hair in protective styles until the stronger hair grows in that can withstand the elements. Examine your hair tools and products. Are there broken teeth on your combs? Are you ripping out your hair with rubber bands and metal clips with contraptions that snap your stands? Do you use harden and snap products like gel and hairspray? Remember, if you want different results you have to make different choices.

SHEDDING

SHEDDING SOLUTIONS •

Determine if you’re in a shedding cycle. It’s natural for your hair to release old follicles a few times a year. If you haven’t lost a lot of hair in a while it may be time. Be extremely careful when combing your hair out in the shower. The hair at the root is moist, softened and ripe for mistaken plucking. If you just had a baby, the hormonal changes can make much of your hair come out at the root. Don’t fret. It will grow back. Adjust your diet. The easiest way to get a daily dose of the necessary vitamins and minerals is to eat or drink them. A glass of green juice a day (with plenty of dandelion greens) will have immediate benefits to your entire body!

THINNING

THINNING SOLUTIONS • •

Don’t put too much product on your hair, keep the strands separate and dry for looks that give the illusion of fullness. Don’t waste your money on synthetic “hair cures” – your wasting your money and risking your health in a highly unregulated industry. Get a clear or colored cellophane treatment, it adds a layer of coating that lasts up to two months and gives the appearance of thicker hair. Whip an egg and place it on your hair once a month. Sit under a heat source for 20 minutes. Protein treatments strengthen the hair you have. Visit Nature’s Natural blog: www.askchatto.com. She’s got over 300 products to recommend with a fourth of them being solutions for hair and scalp dis-ease.

BALDNESS

BALDNESS SOLUTIONS FIRST: • If you smoke. Stop. • If your stressed. Relax. • If your unhappy. Change. • If it’s hereditary. Break the curse with a prayer to Jesus (no joke). SECOND: • Research herbal plant based shampoos that invigorate the scalp. • Massage your scalp for at least two minutes before bedtime and in the morning. • Get plenty of sunlight. • Get creative with styling and accessories for a temporary illusion.

SPLIT ENDS

SPLIT END

SOLUTIONS

• Go get a good trim (1-2 inches). • Section your hair in one inch sections. Twist and examine the hairs that don’t stay within the twist. If they are split, then snip! • Never use your handy set of scissors on your hair. Invest in a pair of quality shears (about $25 bucks to start) that you use exclusively for hair. • Zero in on your ends when moisturizing. Crunch product on the ends first to ensure you don’t run out, then smooth access product onto the roots.

SPLIT END •

SOLUTIONS

Wear protective styles. Once their split, it’s too late. Don’t wear wool around your neck or where your hair comes in contact. Use a silkening conditioner to hide the appearance of split ends as a temporary solution. Cover your ends with your hands when drying with a hand held dryer. Use my tension method. When heat styling add extra product to the ends. Realize you may have to sacrifice hair perfection for health. Limit your use of heat styling tools. No more than 2 times a month.

SPLIT END

SOLUTIONS

• Hide split ends in buns, updo’s, twists and Bantus' – but realize you’ll need to face the music at some point and cut them off. Don’t wait too long or the splits will continue up the strands and you’ll have to cut more off. • Here’s the good news, once you cut it off, you’ve got a new end to nurture, care for, love and retain. If you do it right, you won’t have to trim again for a long time!
