Industry news Statoil CEO: Our industry has bad memory Statoil CEO Eldar Sætre has called for more standardization across the oil and gas industry, saying that is the key to lowering costs in the tough market of low oil prices.
Sætre, appointed CEO of Norway’s biggest oil company after Helge Lund left for BG Group, said:“Some say that the secret to happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory. I guess there’s some truth in that also for us in the oil industry. Having got used to a 100 dollar world, last year’s turning point hit us hard, and with surprise, once again.” During his keynote speech at the IHS CERAweek conference in Houston this week, he noted that with every downturn the oil industry turns to the same solutions, such as slashing capex and exploration, cutting costs and reducing headcount, while also tightening dividends and buy backs.

“Complexity is something we have built over decades. Resources, regulations and specifications have all become more complex. And we have countered complexity with even more complexity.” “Getting to simplicity is harder. It means getting to the core of what’s needed. Cutting costs in the simple manner is rather easy. Cutting the right costs is much more difficult,“ Sætre said.

Offshore Energy hit the road Team OEEC traveled to Houston for the OTC to promote Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference. The IRO Holland pavilion had an “Offshore Energy” branded wall on the staircase and even our cars carried our logo. Besides receiving very positive feedback about our 2014 event we gathered loads of new contacts. A great foundation to keep on building on a better and even more international event.

Kentish Flats Extension Breaks Ground, First Monopile in Water The first monopile foundation at Kentish Flats Extension was installed yesterday morning. GeoSea’s offshore wind installation vessel Neptune, carrying two foundations, arrived on site on Friday afternoon, while the construction kicked off later that evening. “This is a great start to the project and puts us nicely on schedule which is a good sign for the rest of the development,” said Vattenfall, the wind farm developer. Gunnar Groebler, head of Vattenfall’s Business Area Wind, said: “Vattenfall is committed to growing its offshore wind capacity in Europe’s northern seas. Underwater Integrity Solutions (UIS), headquartered in Houston, is an independent company focused on underwater integrity, production assurance and life extension for subsea fields. Royal IHC Launches TSHD ‘ILEMBE’ The naming and launch ceremony of the 5,500m³ trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) ILEMBE took place at Royal IHC’s shipyard in Kinderdijk, the Netherlands. The dredger is being built for Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), the national port authority of South Africa. The ceremony was performed by Ms Lunga Ngcobo, General Manager Corporate Affairs at TNPA. IHC was selected as the supplier after a successful submission into an open tender process for what will be the largest dredging vessel of its kind operating in the country. The contract for the design, construction and delivery of the vessel was signed between TNPA and IHC in March 2014.

The effects of poor data management While organizations have to digest a higher volume of data every year, more companies seem to struggle to deal with this situation. But focusing on analyzing data is important, especially for the oil and gas industry. Due to the combination of increasing operations and lower oil prices, taking advantage of this valuable data is crucial. Not only to reduce costs, but also to minimize losses and improve safety.

Amsterdam: A city you must visit Amsterdam is not only known for its dynamic business center, it’s also famously ‘gezellig’. A Dutch term that can be translated roughly as convivial or cozy, but something that is more easily experienced than defined. You can get that warm, fuzzy feeling just about anywhere. In most restaurants, after dinner in the glow of the candle light, when you have a good beer in a traditional wood paneled café, or when you cycle along the endless canals past all the historic buildings, as if you are in a Golden Age painting.
Marketing
Few cities meld history with modern urban flair like Amsterdam. It can surprise you on every corner of every lane. A hidden city farmhouse, a shop selling odd television shows and movie toys, or a former church converted into a music temple. Amsterdam also offers a culinary melting pot, reflective of the city itself. From Michelin-starred international cuisine to low-budget local hangouts. And with world-class museums, quirky festivals, the best shopping areas, live music, and laid-back bars you will never experience a dull moment in Amsterdam!
