Offshore Energy addresses the technical, operational and commercial challenges associated with future sector growth. One of the biggest challenges the sector faces is how to implement human capital. More companies have put human capital high on their agenda. Investing in the knowledge and skills of the employees will contribute to the innovation and development of the company. It will also help the employee to perform even more efficient and effective. The Training and Development Pavilion focuses on companies and training institutes who offer courses, trainings and educations for the entire offshore energy chain. The Pavilion offers companies also the possibility to express their need for qualified and schooled technical and operational staff with an interest for the offshore and

energy industries. The exhibition creates an excellent knowledge platform to invest in human capital.

International and national job opportunities For nautical or technical professionals, ambitious starters, young professionals or potential jobseekers the Training & Development Pavilion is the place to get inspired. The pavilion offers international career opportunities in the oil, gas, offshore, energy, wind, renewable and dredging industries. Besides companies that are on the pavilion as: TOP Offshore, Roll-Dock, The Dutch Ministry of Defense, Interstep, Qualified People, The Well Academy and Vitalitas Recruitment & Secondment (Elivesto) also our team will be at the Training & Development Pavilion. Job seekers, get in touch with: Joost van Tussenbroek, Thomas van Plateringen, Joost de Brouwer or Ivo Audenaerd, the team behind the (inter)national job portals. They can help and advice you with any HR-question you might have around (inter)national job opportunities. Our international job portals are: OffshoreEnergy.jobs, OffshoreWind.jobs and Dredging.jobs. All job portals are part of a news website used by professionals active in that niche which provide you every day with your daily news about this part of the industry. For job opportunities in the Benelux the MaritiemeVacaturebank.nl is the no. 1 career site in terms of vacancies, views and applicants. You can find the Training & Development Pavilion in Hall 8. www.offshorewind.biz

“Focus on executional excellence”

“Through innovation and collaboration, we should be able to handle this downturn.”

Despite the obvious challenges for all of us serving the oil and gas market, I am optimistic that we can weather this current storm. This confidence is one reason that we have such a strong presence at Offshore Energy this year.

Undoubtedly, the decline in the oil price is putting the entire industry under pressure. Projects are being cancelled or postponed, and there is little doubt that our customers are looking at their costs more closely. We realize we have to work hard for the business. But we are agile, staying focused in order to respond to our clients’ needs, and we are keeping a tight control on costs. We work hand in hand with clients to make sure their investments are efficient and performing in line with their expectations. The basis for this is safety and we take pride in our No. 1 safety record. We have comprehensive safety programs and training initiatives in place. But we know safety is an issue that requires constant vigilance. Our ultimate ambition to have zero LTI is well on track. We have developed a sound strategy over the last couple of months and we are certainly seeing that overtime, long-term contracts are making up a larger proportion of our business. In addition to our services for the oil and gas industry, including accommodation, maintenance & repair, and well services, we are expanding more into installation and decommissioning work, as well as the renewables sector. As the trend for wind turbines getting larger and more powerful continues, our assets can play an important role in this development as they are suited to heavier, more complex equipment. Geographically, our core regions are the North Sea and Middle East but we aim to become a global player and will be looking to expand into South East Asia, the Gulf of Mexico, and West Africa. We are ambitious and growing (the Group has almost tripled in size over the last few years), but we also

SEAFOX welcomes you at the Offshore Energy 15, booth 11048

want to take a steady approach to achieve this strategy. Our team consists of experienced, knowledgeable people and our work has a strong focus on ‘executional excellence’, rather than just operational excellence. Today, the market is challenging but I don’t think we should be too downhearted. We are all pragmatic offshore and maritime folk, and, through innovation and collaboration, we should be able to handle this downturn. To meet the Seafox team you are more than welcome to visit our main booth in Hall 11 (stand 11.048). In addition, we are very happy to be able to treat our visitors again to a lively musical evening at Offshore Energy this year. This special event will take place on Tuesday, October 13th at the Seafox Lounge, which is situated between Hall 8 and 10.

First Gemini Offshore Substation in Place The first offshore transformer station at the Gemini offshore wind farm was placed on top of the jacket foundation yesterday. After installing the jackets earlier this month, the heavy-lift vessel Rambiz is also carrying out the rest of the work on the substation installation. A joint venture between Cofely Fabricom, CG and Iemants, is in charge of the two offshore substations and one onshore station for the project. Each offshore station will be linked to the onshore one by a 120km long cable. Owned by Northland Power (60%), Siemens (20%), Van Oord (10%) and HVC (10%), the Gemini wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2017 and capable of generating clean energy for 1.5 million people in the Netherlands.

Industry news Natural Power, SeaRoc bag EDF’s tidal project contract Natural Power and its sister company SeaRoc have been awarded a contract by EDF to oversee the HSE and marine operations at the Paimpol–Bréhat tidal farm in North Brittany, France.

David Wotherspoon, Operations Director at SeaRoc, said: “Natural Power and SeaRoc have extensive experience in offshore renewable energy - combining our expertise enables us to provide a service that meets the specific needs of EDF on this project, and harness the strength of this partnership for our French clients in the future.” SeaRoc has been working with EDF on the Paimpol–Bréhat tidal project since 2011, providing marine and HSE advice and offshore client representation for the marine operations carried out to date. This included deployment and recovery of the OpenHydro

Natural Power said that the two companies will provide EDF with a local, French speaking team of tidal energy and turbine installation experts to ensure compliance with health and

Since relocating its headquarters from Singapore to the outskirts of Aberdeen, known locally as the Global Subsea Centre of Excellence, Aleron has expanded into two additional facilities. “We moved into additional facilities due to the amount of equipment that we are

processing. We plan to build a customized ROV test tank as the business progresses and we needed more space to develop these plans. Our additional facilities have allowed us to customize the space and improve the efficiency of our workshop operations”, McConnel said. To further expand its product and service offering, Aleron Subsea has recently acquired ROVQUIP, an Aberdeenshire-based ROV tooling manufacturer in a deal worth approximately £1.2 million. Managing director of Aleron Subsea, Mike Bisset, commented on the acquisition: “It was the perfect fit for our business model and the additional product range allows the company togrow and expand our offering to clients. Aleron will now form as a group with ROV’s, ROV tooling and engineered solutions being a key part of our product range. We will continue to look for suitable acquisitions and partners for this group.” Furthermore, Subsea World News has learned that Aleron is in the process of finalizing another contract award in Indonesia but McConnell was unable to disclose any further details.

In Mexico, a historic shift in the oil and gas industry is taking place at a high pace. The country, which holds vast and largely underexplored deepwater reserves, has broken up the old state monopoly and is now opening up to foreign investments.

“The liberation offers great potential for new service providers.” The state oil company PEMEX has lost it’s monopoly, and a substantial part of it’s fields, and in return gained a substantial amount of autonomy. The company has been restructured to become a “productive enterprise”, with a far greater autonomy to compete and cooperate.. Likewise, private companies will now able to acquire licenses to operate in Mexico, in five annual rounds of tenders for (in total) 670 exploration areas and 244 producing fields.
