2022 KEYNOTE SPEAKER

A’Niyah Birdsong Anchor, WISH-TV

Growing up around strong female role models gave me the blueprint for what it means to be a true leader. With that framework provided, I attended Anderson Preparatory Academy, a military high school, graduating salutatorian. During high school, my love of STEM and passion for science were solidified, which led to my path in biology. I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Biology with a Business Life Sciences certificate. After college, I took up space at Eli Lilly as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative. Knowing I didn’t have the “ideal” criteria to transition to a role on the Marketing team, I made a power move and pursued this position anyway. I currently sit on this team. When I am not strategizing to improve patient outcomes, I advocate for women’s involvement in STEM fields and empowering women to be DISRUPTIVE leaders in their networks through my initiative #DaretoDisrupt. All my life I have been challenging the status quo, inserting myself in spaces that lack diversity and representation and by refusing to become complacent. That is my challenge to all women, because the world needs you. It needs your presence!

LETTER FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT

On behalf of NAWBO-Indianapolis Board of Directors and our members, I welcome you to the 18th Annual Visionary Awards luncheon, thank you for joining us to celebrate the 2022 Visionary Award winners.

This year’s theme, MAKE YOUR MARK, truly reflects NAWBOIndianapolis’ energy and enthusiasm and is indicative of what the 2022 Visionary Awards is all about. The women we recognize today have MADE THIER MARK in our community and we celebrate their success, and we recognize and applaud their accomplishments.

Today we also celebrate NAWBO-Indianapolis’ 25th year as an organization that serves as a full-circle resource for women in business. As one of the largest chapters in the country, NAWBO-Indianapolis propels women to grow and flourish by providing advocacy, programming, and business connections.

We couldn’t do this important work without our strong membership base and committed corporate partnerships who enable us to continue the legacy of supporting intelligent, gutsy, and visionary women owned businesses into the future and we thank you for your continued support.

A special thank you to the organizers of this event and most importantly, thank you for your attendance at today’s luncheon. Continue to MAKE YOUR MARK in 2023 and beyond!

Congratulations to the 2022 Visionary Award Winners!

Sincerely,

“Whatever you do, be different – that was the advice my mother gave me, and I can’t think of better advice for an entrepreneur. If you’re different, you will stand out.”

2023 NAWBO INDIANAPOLIS VISIONARY AWARDS | 15

In 1997, the comet Hale-Bopp had its closest approach to earth, the movie “Titanic” crashed into theaters, costing $200 Million to produce, and Madeleine Albright became the first female Secretary of State for the first time in United States history.

Locally that same year, a small group of local female entrepreneurs focused on driving business forward to an unprecedented level established the Indianapolis Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). This newly-formed Indianapolis Chapter offered women throughout the Circle City and the state of Indiana a leadership platform to connect, engage, influence, and advance positive growth in the business community. More importantly, NAWBO propelled women entrepreneurs into economic, social, and political spheres of power.

Twenty-five years later, NAWBO-Indianapolis remains true to our original vision, and has evolved to become far more. We are committed to providing timely and relevant educational programming for our members, we care deeply about the political environment influencing small business, and we established the Visionary Awards ceremony to publicly recognize the achievements of female business leaders. Replicated by other NAWBO chapters in the US, we have become one of the largest and most influential NAWBO chapters in the nation. None of the accomplishments that have occurred during the past twenty-five years would be possible without the vision and leadership of our founding members. These milestones would also not be possible without the engaged support of our membership base and the support of our corporate partners.

As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to helping our members thrive and achieve their greatest potential, both personally and professionally. We also look forward to continuing to grow our network of dynamic, accomplished women interested in driving business and positive change for business in our city.

The possibilities of what we can achieve in the next twenty-five years are unlimited and ours to create!
