Welcome to Northbrook Park District’s 52nd production of Northbrook-On-Ice – Skate the Red Carpet! We are thrilled to host you for an evening of entertainment and a magnificent display of talent. More than 245 skaters have been rehearsing for months and 35 staff members have been working behind the scenes, some since December, to prepare for this annual tradition! Be prepared for what has often been called the best amateur ice show in the U.S. In this year’s production you will enjoy familiar tunes from Oscar winning movies as the theme is a nod to Hollywood’s award-winning films through the years. From our youngest skaters to the celebrated Icettes, each performer will take the ice to dazzle and delight you. On behalf of the Board of Commissioners and the staff, thank you for choosing to spend your time with us this weekend. Your support of all skaters through your attendance is one of the many things that makes Northbrook a phenomenal community and a special place to live, work and play! Sit back, relax, and enjoy a night on the Red Carpet!

Icette Program A proud tradition since 1969, the Icette Program focuses on dance skills, teamwork, dedication and leadership. Created in the style of the Ice Follies, the Icettes feature glamorous, dazzling costumes and theatrical dance production numbers. Over the years, many Icettes have been selected to skate in professional shows such as Ice Capades and Holiday on Ice, performing in national and international venues. The Icette Program, which began with just a few high school skaters, has grown to include three teams with skaters in grades 6-12. Many young skaters at the Northbrook Sports Center aspire to join the Icettes. This year, 55 skaters joined the program after a challenging tryout. They have worked for many months to perfect their routines. We are sad to see our ten graduating seniors perform their last number in Northbrook-On-Ice but proud to watch all our skaters shine under the spotlight as they achieve their dreams.
Thank you,
Bruce Friedman, for being the voice of Northbrook-On-Ice for over 25 years!
Wishing you the best!

Northbrook-On-Ice means family. Over the past 15 years, the girls I skate with have become my sisters. We celebrate the little moments together, like landing a jump or learning a new spin. My skating friends are always there for me and I am forever grateful for my rink family. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me perseverance. Ice skating can be frustrating, but if it has taught me one thing it is that persevering will only make you stronger and a better skater. One piece of advice I would give to the younger skaters is to take advantage of the little moments. Some of my fondest memories at the rink are the smallest ones. Have fun during the dinner breaks, befriend the ice monitors, and make new memories; I would do anything to do it all over again!

Northbrook-On-Ice means showing my friends and family why I love skating so much. It’s a time where I don’t have the stress of doing well at competition and can just let loose and perform. I love NorthbrookOn-Ice because I can connect with why I started skating - the performance. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me growth. My first show was when I was 5 years old so I’ve watched Northbrook-On-Ice go through a lot of changes. As the show grew, I learned how to grow alongside it. Don’t be afraid to do things that people will judge you for. Whether that is doing an over the top performance or joining another skating team, don’t let embarrassment or fear hold you back from being the best. Go full out with whatever you are doing and eventually you will be rewarded for your risks.

To me, Northbrook-On-Ice is a community where skaters come together to create an exhibition that showcases all our talent and hard work. It allows us to share our passion and inspire the next generation. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me the value of friendship and hard work. I have made lifelong friends through this program, and we continue to welcome new skaters. Participating each year in the show has also taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance. I will always be thankful for the memories that I have made in the Northbrook-On-Ice program. I would advise younger skaters to live in the moment and skate for themselves. Skating is a great opportunity that prepares you for life through friendships, challenges, and rewards. There are going to be obstacles in skating and overcoming those obstacles will make you not only a stronger skater but also a stronger individual.

Northbrook-On-Ice is symbolic of community. To me, the show brings consistency and lifelong friendships. Northbrook-On-Ice has brought me relationships that will last throughout my adult life and has introduced me to some of my greatest role models and the most influential people in my life. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me how to do well under pressure. The show has also taught me how to be a good teammate and friend. Competitive figure skating is a very individual sport. However, Northbrook-On-Ice allows for a more community-like feel. Without these shows I would not be able to be the person and athlete I am today. My advice for younger skaters is to enjoy their moment. Instead of always thinking ahead, as a younger skater it is extremely important to enjoy the time you have being in different numbers. I would also say that having fun is always key!

Northbrook-On-Ice means opportunity. Every year you get to be part of a new group, attempt solos, be part of teams, and create with coaches and friends you look up to. Despite my being not where the average of skaters my age are, I still find ways to try out new things and attempt solos, spins, and jumps as equals to other skaters my age. I find it exhilarating to be able to have a chance always to do better and be better. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me how to trust myself. Regardless of the endeavor, there are times when I worry I’ll slip, not perform as well, and anxiously warm up before any number. Through participating in Northbrook-On-Ice, I’ve learned to know my skill and have faith that when that jump/spin comes I can just go for it. To any skater, regardless of age, you must know how to continuously have grit and practice to find your goals. Believe me, working on landing an Axel for 3 and a half years teaches you some things. The failure is not in being weak, it’s in staying weak. Putting yourself in a position where you have to challenge yourself and really try builds your character and brings out who you are in the best ways. There are days when you feel like you can’t do the things you want to. Those feelings are valid as long as you try your best and continue growing. You can’t stop when you’re so close to what you believe in, so fight for what you want and become the best person you can be. Love yourself for who you are and keep pushing forward.

Northbrook-On-Ice means a time to be with friends, learn new skills, and perform. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me to persevere. I have learned that when things are difficult, I need to keep working and not give up regardless of obstacles. I would tell younger skaters to keep practicing and have fun!

Northbrook-On-Ice is my favorite weekend of the whole year. I look forward to it from the time the set is taken down after the last Sunday show until the new Icette season begins. But Northbrook-On-Ice is so much more than one weekend. What really makes the show so special is spending time doing what I love, with the people that mean the most to me. I will forever be grateful for the lifelong friends I have made and the experiences and memories I will cherish forever. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me that success is not just about the final product. It’s about the hard work and dedication that you put into the process, the challenges you overcome along the way, and the pride you feel at the end of the day. The Icette program has taught me the true meaning of teamwork and the importance of genuine friendships. I would tell younger skaters to enjoy every moment of their journey and cherish the friendships and memories they make throughout the years.

Northbrook-On-Ice is a special weekend of skating with people I love. From being a Baby Icette to becoming a Senior Icette, the show has never failed to create everlasting friendships and memories that I will never forget. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me to have more fun with skating. Without the pressures from judges and competitions, this show has allowed me to realize why I love to skate. The people, the teamwork, and even the frustrations have all taught me just how fulfilling skating can be. I would tell younger skaters to always have fun, work hard, and stay fearless in the spotlight!

Northbrook-On-Ice means a lot to me as I have been dedicated to the program for many years. It makes me happy to be able to show my parents what I have been working on all year and it gives me a chance to show them our improvement as I have grown older. I have made so many new friends through this program and I am going to miss all of them next year. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me to live in the moment because it goes by so fast. It has also taught me how to work hard, work with a team, how to make stronger connections with my teammates, and how to work hard in a group setting. I would tell them that failing is normal, as long as you get right back up and try again. Skating is about trial and error, and giving up is never the right choice. There are going to be times where you break down, but if you enjoy the sport you should never quit. 35
Sydney Wolff
15 Years with Northbrook-On-Ice
Northbrook-On-Ice is a very special time filled with amazing memories, and it is the best time of the year. I have loved every minute of the camaraderie, the costumes, the make-up, and the performance. I have made lifelong friends that I will always cherish through this show. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me how to engage in cooperative learning, be a team player, and work extremely hard to reach my performance goals. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me to be resilient, how to be supportive of a large group of skaters, and it has increased my love for performance. The advice I would give younger skaters is to love every minute while you are on the ice, perform at your absolute best, and make amazing memories on and off the ice, because before you know it, you will be a graduating senior.
Angela Zhang
9 Years with Northbrook-On-Ice
Northbrook-On-Ice is my favorite time of the year, a time of yearly traditions and pure joy. It’s always fun to finally be able to perform after a year practicing for the show, and seeing the stands filled up with familiar faces fills me with an adrenaline to perform. The feeling of the spotlight on you, smiling until your face hurts, and doing what I love most is a feeling that you can’t beat. I’ve made special memories that I’ll never forget. Northbrook-On-Ice has taught me to enjoy every moment on the ice. By the time the show actually comes around, it flies by and before you know it, it’s all over. You work so hard and commit so much time to practicing for the show, and if you don’t take in every moment, it’ll be gone before you know it. I’ve learned not to worry about messing up, but rather going out onto the ice and having fun. The show always brings me back to why I love skating, and it’s taught me to make the most out of every moment. Take in every moment and memory you make from skating. Whether it’s landing a new jump, making a new friend, winning a competition, soak it all in. Don’t let little moments of discouragement take away from everything you’ve accomplished. There are always going to be moments of disappointment, but with those also come moments of joy. Hold on to the memories and enjoy every moment while it lasts. 37
