Greetings Senior Center Members!

I hope this finds you well and enjoying the start of summer with friends and family! I am writing to inform you that the Northbrook Senior Center will not be sending out a July/August Momentum; regular mailings of Momentum will resume with an August/September edition in late July.

While the production of the July/August Momentum was nearing completion, COVID-19 guidelines changed, and restrictions were lifted. Because of this, much of the information in Momentum was no longer accurate. I have opted to send this overview of upcoming July programs and activities in

COVID-19 Update

Face coverings are no longer required for fully vaccinated individuals participating in park district programs whether indoors or outdoors. Unvaccinated people and children under 12 who are unable to be vaccinated are required to continue to wear a face covering when indoors and outside when physical distance of 6 feet cannot be maintained.

Beginning Mah Jongg

Ready to try Mah Jongg? This class is for those wanting to brush up on skills or just have fun while building brainpower. Learn a fascinating, interactive game! Instructor: Terri Argentar

Ceramics – Open Workshop

Express your creativity with clay, using the potter’s wheel and hand-building techniques from sculpture to jewelry. Students at all levels receive individual attention, along with a variety of clays, glazes and basic tools. All materials provided. 20lbs. of clay is included with the class. Additional clay is available for purchase for $7.50 per 5lbs.

Friday, July 9 from 2pm-3:30pm at Village Green Center

Join us as Barry Bradford brings Broadway to the Village Green Center with an upbeat presentation of the best of Cole Porter. This event is sponsored by Avidor Glenview.

Lunch and Movie - Minari

Tuesday, July 13 from 12:30-3:00pm at Village Green Center

Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but loving grandmother. Amidst the instability and challenges of this new life in the rugged Ozarks, Minari shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home. A boxed lunch and bottled water are included. This event is sponsored by Atria Senior Living Highland Park.

Lunch and Movie - A Secret Love

This Chicago-based documentary weaves together LGBTQ history, baseball, and a sensitive depiction of a couple navigating the realities of growing older together. A boxed lunch and bottled water are included. this event is sponsored by Whitehall of Deerfield.

Stars & Stripes Bingo

Friday, July 30 from 2-3:30pm at Village Green Center

Spend an afternoon playing bingo with friends and a chance to win prizes! Individually wrapped treats and bottled beverages are provided. Wear red, white and blue to receive an extra bingo card. This event is sponsored by Harbor House of Wheeling.

TRIP! Kinky Boots at the Paramount

Wednesday, August 25 from 10am-5pm

This flashy, sassy story of big heels invading a small town shook Broadway and was universally adored by critics and audiences. Charlie Price is a reluctant shoemaker. Lola is a fierce drag queen. These two find common ground and end up finding a way to save Charlie’s failing shoe factory. From its glorious costumes to Cyndi Lauper’s award Tony-winning score, you’ll walk away humming for days! Lunch is included. The bus will pick up and drop off the group at the Village Green Senior Center, 1810 Walters Ave. Register by August 5.

TRIP! Chicago Cubs in Milwaukee

Sunday, September 19 from 10:30am-6pm

The Cubbies are back in Milwaukee and looking to raise the flag again. Experience the magnificent Miller Park and a great game between these division rivals. Fee includes transportation and ticket. Transportation leaves from the Leisure Center at 10:30am to get to the ballpark for a 1:10pm game. Lunch is on your own at the Park.

Senior Center Drop-In Programs

Call your friends and join drop-in programs and card games at the Northbrook Senior Center at two locations!

• Participation in drop-in programs requires a current Senior Center membership.

• Face coverings are required for unvaccinated participants and optional for those who are vaccinated. Face coverings should be considered in the Leisure Center hallways.

• Bring your own beverages; there is no coffee service.

To become a Senior Center member, call 847-291-2995 between 8am and 4pm or stop by.
