Message from Supervisor Laura Wassinger

Hello Senior Center Members!

It’s hard to believe I’ve already been with the Park District more than six months. Getting to know many of you, whether at a drop-in program or on one of our trips, has been a pleasure!

My educational background is in gerontology, which I studied at Roosevelt University. Most recently I worked as a Special Event Manager at a park district golf club. Before, I worked as the Director of Activities at a care facility. Combining these two areas of my past work experience into this position is exciting.

Most of my interests are like yours—I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating well and exercising to keep fit. I love to read, mostly mysteries, and love it when people

share the names of favorite authors with me. Gardening and birdwatching are also among my favorite activities. Finally, listening to live jazz over a good meal with my husband and friends is my idea of a perfect night!

My husband John and I have been married 31 years. We have three adult children Max, my son, and twin girls, Claire and Faye. None of my kids are married yet but I’m sure that will change before I know it!

I want to learn what ideas and interests you have. That information will help us increase the variety of quality programs and trips we offer at our Senior Center. I invite you to stop by anytime to share your thoughts or email me at: lwassinger@nbparks.org.

Thank you for your warm welcome!
