Improving Community Spaces:
Leisure Center Parking Lot Resurfacing in August
The Leisure Center parking lots are scheduled to be resurfaced in midAugust. The primary street entrance will be relocated to the entrance next to Beth Shalom during the first phase of construction. Be on the lookout for directional signs. The parking areas will be resurfaced and re-striped to provide clear parking designations and smooth driving/ walking surfaces. Schedule is weather dependent.

Transportation will arrive back at the Leisure Center around 3pm.

Take a tour of the great city of Chicago! Board a double-decker bus at Navy Pier and learn about 14 different landmarks throughout the city. Once we complete the tour you can take a ride on the world-famous Centennial Wheel at Navy Pier and have time to explore this Chicago landmark. Lunch is included at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Transportation will leave the Leisure Center at 9:30am and will return at 5pm. Lunch includes a choice of entrees: shrimp, fish and chips, cheeseburger, salad or chicken (includes dessert).

In two hours, you can learn to defend yourself with techniques to stop a bigger, stronger attacker. This is one of the easiest and most effective self-defense classes you can take, regardless of your age, size, strength, speed, skill or physical ability. Learn to anticipate and avoid dangerous situations, defenses against attackers and standing/ground techniques. You will receive a Personal Safety Guide from the Brave Way Program.

Did you know that four presidents rode in the same car that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in after his assassination? Historian, Jim Gibbons, will present fun-filled trivia and historical facts about the presidents.

The Lending Closet
The Northbrook Park District lends medical equipment to Northbrook residents and Senior Center members for up to three months. Equipment includes canes, crutches, raised toilet seats, portable commodes, shower seats/benches, walkers and wheelchairs. There is no charge to check out the item but if items are not returned within three months there is a $25 service fee. The Senior Center cannot provide supervision, training or adjustment of the equipment. If adjustments are necessary, borrowers can contact their physician or physical therapist. Call 847-291-2995 for more information or to schedule a time to pick-up or drop-off equipment (walk-in pick-up/drop-offs are not available, items must be reserved the business day prior to item pick-up).

Inside the room, members have access to towels, a water cooler, a hand sanitizing station and TV.

Personal Training
Have a Certified Personal Trainer design a simple, effective and fun workout program just for you! Sessions are 45 minutes long and a fitness assessment will be provided. The Ridge Membership is not required for Personal Training sessions. Training is provided by Leslye Jones-Beatty.
