Momentum
Hello Senior Center Members!
Welcome to our Summer Momentum Newsletter. For those that don't know me, my name is Sally Norlie, and I am serving as the Interim Recreation Supervisor of Senior and Adult Art Programs. With the departure of Eilleen Gabriel-Galán, I will be assuming her role on an interim basis through the end of the summer. During this time, I will be evaluating the role and responsibilities and learning more about you, the senior members in our facilities and programs, as we thoughtfully and purposefully work to find an appropriate replacement for this important role. When the position is posted, I will be sure to share this information with you and work with the Senior Advisory Council throughout the hiring process.
I have worked with the Northbrook Park District for several years in various support roles, most recently as the Recreation Coordinator. In that role, I have enjoyed being a support to the Senior Center and assisting with events and trips, such as the trip to White Fence Farm this past fall, and am looking forward to working with you and planning events for our Senior Center in the interim. I grew up in Northbrook, and raised my two children here. I still live in Northbrook with my husband and enjoy photography, baking and theatre. I look forward to getting to know all of you and your interests while I am in this role.
This summer will bring us some new programs and events where I look forward to seeing you. In June we are offering Tips and Simulators at Heritage Oaks Golf Club. This new event offers the opportunity to experience golf on the the state-of-the-art Indoor Simulators, tour the Clubhouse and get some tips for your game from our professional golf staff.
Paint, Lunch & Learn, also at Heritage Oaks, is a new event offering a relaxing summer day with lunch and an afternoon of painting in a professionally led class where you will create your own unique piece of art and enjoy lunch at the Acorn Grill + Terrace.
For trips, we are hosting an Art at the Museum outing where you do not have to be a historian or artist to engage with art on museum walls. Spend an engaging afternoon at the Art Institute of Chicago’s Van Gogh and the Avant-Garde: The Modern Landscape exhibit while also creating art inspired by the exhibit.
Lastly, I am excited to highlight two new dropin programs, Drop-In Chess, which offers the opportunity to learn and play on a provided chess set and Senior Social Hour where you can join me for conversation and dessert.
As you enjoy Summer’s warm long days treat yourself to our Ice Cream Social and Music with Maureen Christine, an award-winning vocalist and celebrated Broadway-style entertainer on July 19. These are just a sampling of the many things you can do. There are so many wonderful activities and events happening at the Senior Center. Come join us.
See you at the Leisure Center!
Sally Norlie
