Pickleball
Pickleball Clinic
Players learn basic strategy, equipment, drills to improve ball strokes, rules of play, player positions and scoring. Advanced players learn strategy and tactics, split steps, serve and returns, dinks and 3rd shot drop. Pickleball open gym immediately follows the clinic.

Self-Defense Training
In two hours, you can learn to defend yourself with techniques to stop a bigger, stronger attacker. This is one of the easiest and most effective self-defense classes you can take, regardless of your age, size, strength, speed, skill or physical ability. Learn to anticipate and avoid dangerous situations, defenses against attackers and standing/ground techniques. You will receive a Personal Safety Guide from the Brave Way Program.

Check out bocce balls from the Leisure Center Registration Office during office hours for free. Equipment can be borrowed on Fridays for weekend play but must be returned the following Monday. Free to drop-in and play. Park District activities take priority over drop-in play. Want to reserve a court? Call 847-291-2995 for availability – $9/hour for residents and $15/hour for non-residents.
The Lending Closet
The Northbrook Park District lends medical equipment to Northbrook residents and Senior Center members for up to three months. There is no charge to check out the item but if items are not returned within three months there is a $25 service fee.

Super Senior Day

Enjoy a day filled with easy access to convenient services at the Senior Center. Call 847-291-2995 or stop by the Leisure Center Registration Office for details and sign up information.
• Rules of the Road class from 10am11:30pm. This class is free but requires advance sign-up.
• Renew your license, obtain a State ID card, take your written driver’s test and have your vision tested all between the hours of 10am2pm. Call for information on acceptable forms of ID required for processing.
• Julie Koleff from ClearCaptions will provide information about a federally subsidized program to provide a no cost caption phone and service for those who have some hearing loss. She can help set this up for you!
• Step Lightly, a provider of no cost diabetic shoes, will be represented by Jean Huyler, to determine if you qualify for a pair and help you through the process.
AARP Driver Safety Course
September 13 & 14, October 8 & 15 from 9am-1pm
Sharpen your driving skills with a class, geared toward drivers age 50 and older. Preregistration is required, with checks payable to AARP. Drivers must attend both days. Call 847-291-2995 to register.

Drop-in Program Highlights
One benefit of having a membership to the Senior Center is being able to participate in the many dropin programs offered. Some of these activities require certain skill levels and partnerships. If you are new to an activity, it is recommended you arrive early to become acquainted to the group. Stop by the Senior Center office upon your arrival and staff can introduce you to the drop-in group of your choice. For more information, call 847-291-2995 and ask for the Senior Center.
Bocce
Thanks to Hy Weiner’s determination we now offer drop-in Bocce on Wednesdays from 10am-noon. Hy offers basic instruction and encouragement. Meet people, learn the game and most of all, have fun! The bocce courts are located just behind the Leisure Center. Bocce will continue through fall, weather permitting.
“Crafty Ladies”, aka Sewing and Crafts
Every Monday from 10am-2pm this friendly, cozy group meets to create unique, handmade and inexpensive gifts that are displayed in the showcase near the Senior Center office. Profits support the Senior Center.
We have great gifts for seniors and children along with seasonal and holiday items. Some of our most popular items are:
• Wine bottle gift bags
• Tissue box covers
• Chicago sports team logo items
Current Events
This group meets Tuesdays, 1-2pm. If you enjoy discussing the issues and events facing us in today’s world this group is for you. Exchange ideas over a cup of coffee with fellow followers of today’s breaking news.
Humanities
Bill Schwartz, an active member of the Senior Center, facilitates this lively group which meets on Fridays, 9:30am-noon. Whether it’s a discussion of pre-determined short stories or show and tell, you can look forward to sharing ideas in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Knitting and Crocheting
This warm, welcoming group is always happy to pull up another chair for newcomers. They meet on Wednesdays, 10am-noon. All skill levels are welcome. Bring in your own yarn to work on personal projects or use designated supplies to create items to be donated to a variety of charities. Supplies of yarn are gladly welcome and always used to create items for donation such as blankets, hats, scarves and gloves. Organizations who receive donations from the Knitting/Crocheting group are:
