Momentum
Hello Senior Center Members!
Spring is almost here, and I am ready to put the long cold winter behind us. Spring in Northbrook is gorgeous as new life abounds in the many parks and recreation areas in the community. With new life comes hope for a brighter tomorrow and there are many reasons to believe this year will be better than the last. As we transition to find our new normal, please know that I value your input and I am always listening. Many of our programs planned for this spring, highlighted in this issue of Momentum, are offered at the request of our members. Here are a few of the things you have been asking for that you will see this spring:
• More Pickleball court time this spring. We added two more days. More information about Summer Pickleball will be included in the next Momentum. Reminder: The gym does not open until 8am. Please do not arrive earlier than 8am for Pickleball.
• A return of Drop-In Bridge. The group now meets on Thursdays from 1pm–3:30pm.
• The option to meet in-person for Drop-In Humanities. We now offer a hybrid version where members can choose to come in-person or to join Humanities discussions via Zoom.
When members were asked what they’d like to see us offer that we’re not currently offering you shared your ideas. As a result, we offered entertainment, Lunch and Learn opportunities, and a variety of creative arts classes such as Zentangle, Acrylic Pour, Resin Jewelry Making and more. Feedback from the Current Events group enabled us to offer Hands Only CPR classes. These are just a small sampling of the ways in which Senior Center programs have grown and it’s all because of YOU!
As you head into this spring season, remember that exercise is good for your mind and soul. If you enjoy dancing, I hope you’ll try our new Move It & Shake It class. Consider Tai Chi if you enjoy the physical and emotional benefits of reduced stress, improved balance and cognition, and better sleep. However, if improving your balance is something you need, we offer a Balance and Mobility class geared for seniors. For those with arthritis, experiencing stiffness or limited mobility, you’ll want to consider taking our Flexibility and Joint Motion class to increase your range of motion.
Lastly, please know that my door is open, I am here with a listening ear, and I am truly grateful that you can be candid with me. I am here to advocate for your recreational needs and to offer programming that will enhance your well-being while creating ways for you to age well.

TPAC Membership Options and Rates
Track use requires a TPAC or Track Only Membership, or a daily fee of $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents.
I am a member of the Senior Center. Does my Senior Center membership include use of TPAC?
No. TPAC membership is separate from the Senior Center membership. Members of the Senior Center need to be a TPAC member or pay a daily fee to attend group fitness classes, open gyms or use the fitness floor or track at TPAC.
Do I need a membership to attend group fitness classes at TPAC?
There are two options. The first is to have a full membership which includes access to regular group fitness classes, use of the track, participation in all open gyms and use of the fitness floor. The other option is to pay the daily fee. Daily admission includes group fitness classes, use of the track, use of the fitness floor and open gym participation on that day. Daily admission is being offered at a rate of $18 for Northbrook Park District residents and $23 for non-residents.
Will group fitness classes be returning to the Leisure Center?
A limited number of health and wellness programs are being offered at the Leisure Center. The programs will be planned for older adults and will not be the same as group fitness classes at Techny Prairie Activity Center. Prior to the opening of TPAC, the fitness classes at the Leisure Center were offered to everyone but were often viewed as Senior Center classes based on the participants who chose to register. New and developing programs include health and wellness options designed for Senior Center participants and will be held at the Leisure Center. Classes currently held at TPAC such as W.O.W., Chair Yoga and Zumba Gold will not be duplicated at the Leisure Center.
