Momentum

Hello Senior Center Members!

Our summer season is coming to an end and we are looking forward to welcoming the fall colors and enjoying seasonal activities together. As we know, the fall is when we harvest and wind down, yet the Senior Center has many new and returning offerings for us to enjoy together.

This fall, we are offering new workshops in chess, knitting and writing your memoir at no charge to Senior Center Members. Try our free Chess Workshop on September 6 or Creative Stitches Knitting Workshop on September 8. If you enjoy them, you can register for the full program beginning later in September. In “Your Memoir: A Family Keepsake,” seniors will learn how to write their memoirs with Burt Evans on Tuesday, October 10. No experience is needed to participate in these workshops.

In performing arts, the popular Park Larks Choir program is returning this fall and a new senior play, “A Christmas Carol Radio Play,” offers an enjoyable opportunity to perform one of the most-well known plays of the holiday season. As this is a radio play, all performers will have scripts, some will create sound effects and no memorization is required.

I enjoyed our trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo this past June. We met our fitness goal for the day, walked to find our favorite animals and had some excitement along the way. We are so happy to be able to do group trips again. I hope you’ll consider joining me at one (or more!) of our fall trip offerings:

• “A Chorus Line” at Skokie Theatre on Wednesday, September 20

• Chicago Botanic Gardens on Tuesday, October 10

• “Denny Diamond” at White Fence Farm on Thursday, November 16

We have several special events for you to mark on your calendar such as the new Senior Center Expo and the always popular Holiday Party at Sunset Ridge Country Club on Friday, December 8. Enjoy the afternoon with raffle prizes, lunch, and entertainment by Peter Oprisko performing the best of pop classics and jazz.

New offerings in Health and Wellness are being offered at the Leisure Center this fall! Senior Center members and non-members can register in advance to enjoy more classes in the same facility. New this fall, many of these classes will now be included in a Techny Prairie Activity Center membership with no additional registration or fees required. In this Momentum you will see use of this circle icon ● to denote which classes are now included.

Lastly, you may have noticed Customer Service Coordinator Chris Ramos’ presence at the Senior Center Office regularly over these past few months. She is one of the many Park District staff members working to create positive experiences for you, our seniors. We are all available and interested in hearing feedback on what you are looking for as members of our community.

Wishing you all an enjoyable fall season and beyond,

December
