Momentum

Hello Senior Center Members!

Happy Holidays to you all! As you make your resolutions and goals for the New Year, I hope becoming more involved at the Northbrook Senior Center is one of them. Whatever 2023 brings for you, know that your Senior Center will be here all year, so that you can enjoy a variety of programs, activities and special events.

In this issue you will see health and wellness offerings that have been requested by our membership. Programs that have been running through our cooperation with White Crane Wellness are now being offered to Senior Center and TPAC members at the Leisure Center with our staff instructors! The programs with you in mind include Bingo Moves (formerly Bingocize), Tai Chi, Floor 2 Feet and new offerings such as Balance and Mobility for Seniors, Flexibility and Joint Motion, and Move It & Shake It. We also continue to offer walking with Senior Center friends on the indoor track at TPAC. Our goal is to provide you with options at the Leisure Center or through the Senior Center each day to compliment your daily routine. See page 9 for the latest Senior Health & Wellness offerings at the Leisure Center.

The Northbrook Senior Center, in partnership with North Suburban YMCA, will host Food Pantry DriveBy Drop Off events in 2023 to support the nutrition assistance efforts of the Northfield Township Food Pantry. We will be collecting non-perishable donations that can make an immediate difference to those experiencing food insecurity. These events will be held on May 19, from 11am–1pm in the Leisure Center parking lot, and on November 16, from 11am–1pm in the North Suburban YMCA Parking Lot located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. In the meantime, both the Leisure Center and the YMCA have bright yellow Northfield Township Food Pantry Bins located inside their buildings year-round, please consider donating!

Thank you to all the talented individuals participating in the Northbrook Artists Studio Tour on November 5. Twelve of our senior artists will be displaying and selling their work at the Leisure Center from 12pm–4pm. We hope to see you there!

Please continue to share your thoughts and ideas! The Northbrook Park District staff are truly committed to making your Senior Center a wonderful place to spend your time. I look forward to all that is to come in the new year!

Do I need a membership to attend group fitness classes at TPAC?

There are two options. The first is to have a full membership which includes access to regular group fitness classes, use of the track, participation in all open gyms and use of the fitness floor. The other option is to pay the daily fee. Daily admission includes group fitness classes, use of the track, use of the fitness floor and open gym participation on that day. Will group fitness classes be returning to the Leisure Center?

A limited number of health and wellness programs are being offered at the Leisure Center. The programs will be planned for older adults and will not be the same as group fitness classes at Techny Prairie Activity Center. Prior to the opening of TPAC, the fitness classes at the Leisure Center were offered to everyone but were often viewed as Senior Center classes based on the participants who chose to register. New and developing programs include health and wellness options designed for Senior Center participants and will be held at the Leisure Center. Classes currently held at TPAC such as W.O.W., Chair Yoga and Zumba Gold will not be duplicated at the Leisure Center.
