MIGHTY BOSCH AUGUST marks the 500th anniversary of the death of the visionary Dutch painter and father of surrealism Hieronymus Bosch. To celebrate, the city of his birth, s-Hertogenbosch (known as Den Bosch, a 20-minute train ride from Eindhoven), is putting on a year-long extravaganza. Bosch500 (bosch500.nl/en) showcases dozens of his works at Het Noordbrabants Museum (hetnoordbrabantsmuseum.nl/en) until May 8 and there are canal tours, street performances and light projections taking place until the end of the year. Den Bosch is one of The Netherlands’ oldest cities, with a lively café/bar scene.
