Bob’s Africa Rotary Blog 155

4/14/13

Thank you Carol Jones of the Blue Mound, Illinois Rotary Club Dear Bob. We made a girl and her guardians/ relatives very happy yesterday. Miriam is the girl in the photo who received the wheelchair which you brought. No need to say she became very happy. She is looked after by her grandmother, named Jala Sitwala, and her family. Miriam stays in a village one hour north of Livingstone, in Chief Musekotwanes’ area. It’s about a 90 minute drive from Livingstone in the bush. Her mother stays in Lusaka for work. Miriam is 14 years old, severely affected by Cerebral Palsy. Because her body is so stiff and movements jerky she can not sit in an ordinary wheelchair. But she does sit well in this wheelchair, since the sitting position can be adjusted, and it has got belts and a west to fasten her in the chair. I told them that you brought it all the way from the US and how you had to struggle with it on all along the way from Butte, Montana USA to Zambia. Sincerely yours Håkon Spigseth, Livingstone Zambia Rotarian PS. (by Bob) Caro Jones’s contribution was beyond the scope of the Rotary Grant & provides for specialized wheel-chairs not assembled in Livingstone at this time. A Future grant from you or your Club can make it happen. Contact Bob.

Now on to Ndola & Lisbon

On right is a tile picture from Lisbon showing the cobblestone streets & the historic (old) narrow street cars that help make Lisbon such a unique, cosmopolitan city. Come to a Rotary International Convention & it will change your life. Before Lisbon I’m off to Ndola in the Copperbelt Region of Zambia for 9210’s District Conference. I leave for Africa on April 25 and return May 27.

Please contact:

Bob Selinger to help finish the Rotary Park in Livingstone, future wheelchair & water projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. Your excess or unneeded miles can be transferred to Rotary at no cost to you & benefit overseas projects. Until 4/25 Bob (949) 8873266, USA after4/28 Africa (260)955-898901. rdselinger@aol.com & bobselinger on skype. Thank you for all your support!!
