Bob’s Rotary Africa Blog 160 The Stoveman Cometh to Zambia 5/17/13
Dr. Paul Anderson from Normal IL, came to introduce to the TLUD stove
Dr. Paul Anderson (above in Rotary hat) from the Sunset Rotary Club of Bloomington-Normal IL came to Zambia to introduce a Top Lift Up Draft stove to Zambia which would reduce the deforestation in the African forests/jungle by 50 %. Presently being built and introduced in Uganda where it is hoped they will make a substantial impact. Rotarian Paul visited the Livingstone Youth Community Trainng Center site of the KWA Rotary shirt project and the Wheelchair assembly project. Students enrolled in the YCTC plumbing, sheet metal & welding course learned about the stoves and then assembled three stoves (above) and were enthusiastic along with YCTC official about the possibility of manufacturing the stoves for sale in Zambia. If all goes as planned the Sunset Club will propose a Rotary Matching Grant to help decrease the deforestation of forests and reduce the amount of fuels need to cleanly cook in the home. Rotarian Anderson can be reached at: psanders@ilstu.edu, for possible collaboration on this project or in the location your Club is located in or partnering with. More next time on the Rotary Park progress.
