Thursday, January 10th Jacqueline Savidan, RYLA Our club has been a generous supporter of RYLA, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards - Rotary’s Leadership Training for youth 14-30,usually 14-18. Jacqueline is District RYLA Club Outreach Chair.

Last Meeting Notes Pres Bob called order 12:30 Invocation: Jerry Rekers Pledge: Dave Halm 4-Way Test: Art Kleinpell Song of the Day: Scott Jackson led us in a specially-crafted version of “There’s No Business Like Show Business” Introduction of Visiting Rotarians and Guests: John Brainerd: John introduced two NIRC Past Presidents: Peter Rabbit and Ralph Clock, with wife Nazira. Announcements: - Cecil provided a slideshow on annual Olive Crest Christmas Party. Sixty three youths participated and 21 volunteers hosted the event. Many felt this was the best party ever. Thanks again Cecil for all your hard work this year! - The Rotary International Conference will be June 23rd – 26th in Lisbon Portugal. - Our District Conference (2013 Club Celebration Week-End ) will be May 2-4 at Knott’s Berry Farm Fines This Week: Blanca cleaned up with fines levied for anniversaries and birthdays to Kerk, Baily, Dave, Jerry, Ken and President Bob. Program: Manny Pacheco presented a very interesting program on Hollywood history. Manny is an award-winning author who has talked to 18 Rotary clubs in recent years. His presentation enlightened us on the connections between

Her presentation covers the history of RYLA Int’l as well as district 5320 RYLA. She will describe the weekend of a typical TA (Team Assistant) and the impact on a camper. Jacqueline became a Rotarian in 2004 and served as web designer for the San Clemente Sunrise Rotary Club as well as Program Director for Lake Elsinore Rotary. She has served as a TA at 5320's RYLA Camp for 8 years, and is serving this year as the camp's Outreach Chair. She is a Commercial Insurance Broker and is Director of Sales for Edson Insurance Services. Hollywood history and American history, providing four interesting examples of how Hollywood movies and actors shape and influence American events. His first example described how “odd couple” Peter Laurie and Sydney Greenstreet influenced the naming of the atomic bombs that ended World War II. The bombs were named “Little Boy” after Laurie and “Fat Man” after Sidney. The names were chosen after Jack Warner provided Saturday films to the nuclear bomb team. The second example was the role Van Heflin plays in the Kennedy Assassination. His film “Cry for Battle” was being shown when Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested in the Dallas movie theater. The theater still exists and there is a plaque on the seat where New Lunch price $15 Oswald was sitting when arrested.
