Singh spoke of his journey 50 years ago from India after graduating first in class from Bombay Institute of Technology. He decided to pursue a graduate degree in the US at University of Illinois; he had a scholarship to support living and travel costs. After an adventurous boat trip, the Greyhound bus took him to Urbana-Champaign where he received his Masters in Civil Engineering. His first job was a challenge as employers weren't so open to hiring an engineer wearing a turban. He found a position with A. Epstein & Son. He then moved to Bechtel in San Francisco where he worked from 1966 to 2006. His primary work focus was on the construction of nuclear power plants. “Singh” became a citizen in 1977 and moved to southern California after retirement. Of all the clubs he has visited around the world, NIRC is the best !!! Past President Kerk Lesh then provided a history of NIRC. The club was founded in 1967 by a group of young men who were dedicated to service and good times. The club met at the Airporter Inn and there was always an open bar before and during meetings.

hard to establish, but the club had many great times. Kerk spoke of demotion parties in members’ backyards, and the camaraderie that existed at the time. Kerk was president in 86-87 when women were introduced to the club with some controversy. Earle threatened to quit that year, but stuck it out and we’re glad he did. Having women members changed the types of jokes that were told. He then spoke of the Keith Nelson’s demotion party when a Bill Clinton impersonator was hired to roast Keith, and Scott Jackson’s first meeting when a comedian was hired to lambaste attorneys. Other members then shared stories and memories that they recalled. - Bill Zeller, Reporter ! ! ! ! ! Click for Photo Highlights of Meeting Photos from 3rd Friday Bar Social Jan 18th
