General Requirements Candidates must have a 2.0 grade point average and be admitted to the university by auditions. Students from Bennett College and UNCGreensboro can audition as long as they participate in the Greater Greensboro Consortium program.

Performance Requirements Candidates must have the following skills and abilities mastered to audition with the squad. Attending a Spring Clinic or purchasing the Instructional DVD will assist if you need improvement in any of the following: Candidates must: o Be extremely flexible o Have dynamic showmanship and personality in performance o Learn routines quickly o Have positive attitudes and a willingness to work hard o Be in great physical shape. You must have toned and shapely body types with an emphasis placed on flat abdominals and toned legs, backs and arms. Basic Skills- Dance & Flexibility o Splits on both legs o Heel stretch on both legs o Standing back bend o Crash split o Toe touch o Pirouette turns o Axle turns o Leaps o Hitch kicks o Front Ankle Grabs o Cartwheel (one and two handed) o Front and backward rolls

Basic Skills-Twirling (we teach these skills to Flag Candidates at our clinics.) o Be able to demonstrate tosses with confidence 2 for Flags 6 or more for majorettes (3 of which must be with 2 batons) o Be able to demonstrate all basic spins o Majorettes must have experience/ability to Twirl two or more batons Twirl fire Twirl various equipment (streamers, hoops, blades, etc)

Auditions Attire (see page 5 for examples) 1. Evaluation Attire: Black Racer back sports bra, Black briefs, flesh tone dance tights and any type of dance shoes (jazz, character, split sole Dance sneakers) No sneakers/tennis shoes! 2. Practice/Instruction Attire: Any type of form fitting dance attire (boy cut shorts, dance pants, sports bra, tanks, etc) and dance shoes. *Proper attire should be worn when entering and exiting the audition area.

Hair & Make Up o Hair should be worn down with a natural look. Extensions may be worn if they are neat and tasteful. o Show make up should be worn at all times of the audition process. What to Bring Aggie One Card or proof of enrollment (acceptance letter, schedule, etc.), Registration fee of $25.00, Extra tights, Water bottle, Snacks for breaks, Personal items: make up, curling iron, small towel, etc Candidates should have on Evaluation Attire when reporting for auditions. 2|Page


Audition Process Step 1: Know your abilities. Make sure you are aware of all the minimum requirements and guidelines for auditions. These are not suggestions they are required skills. Candidates should arrive to our auditions prepared to present routines on an intermediate to advanced performance level. Make sure your physique, appeal and skills are adequate for a collegiate audition. Step 2: Register for Auditions. Registration is done via email. There are no paper “applications.” Emails should include the following information: 1. First and Last Name 2. Flag or Majorette/Baton Twirler (both are feature dancers) 3. Classification as of Spring 2010 4. Full Mailing Address 5. Phone Number with Area Code 6. School You Currently Attend 7. Email (if it is different than the one you emailed us from) 8. Years of Dance Experience 9. Years of Twirling Experience 10. Clinic date you plan to attend (or indicate that you will send a DVD) 11. (Optional) Discuss your performance experience in details, talk about any leadership positions you have held, and anything you want staff to know. 12. You MUST attach a headshot photo when sending your introductory email. No exceptions. 13. In the subject line of the email, please simply type your full name. Step 2: Prepare. Attend a Spring Clinic. Audition Prep Clinics are non-mandatory dance and twirling classes offered to provide preparation for the upcoming audition. They are taught by Golden Delight staff and leadership during the spring. See our website for specific clinic dates. Audition DVD’s can be sent if you are unable to attend any of the clinics. (see page 4) Step 3: Attend Auditions. Auditions are a four day process held from June 24-27, 2010. Tentative schedule is as follows: Thursday (beginning in the evening) Preliminary Evaluations (physique and appeal, basic skills, etc.) Friday Instruction (learn dance, twirling, stands combinations)/First Cuts in Evening Saturday Continued Instruction and Open Sessions Sunday (done midday) Final Judging and Informational Meeting for Selected Candidates Ladies who do not attend auditions are not eligible to audition at any other time, no exceptions. Auditions carry a $25.00 nonrefundable registration fee. Housing and meals are not provided for auditions. All decisions made by the Golden Delight staff are final and cannot be contested. Parents or spectators are not allowed in the audition facility. When you report to 3|Page


auditions you must provide proof that you have been accepted to the university or are signed up for the consortium. Step 4: Auxiliary Training Camp. If you are selected at auditions, you will then attend Auxiliary Camp for one week. Evaluations will continue throughout this week and ladies can still be cut if performance expectations are not met. Housing and meals are provided for Training Camp and band camp for all squad members. Tentative dates for camp are July 24-31, 2010.

2010 Auditions DVD Please read: Audition DVD’s are not a required component of the audition process. You are to submit an audition DVD ONLY if you cannot attend at least ONE spring clinic. Please adhere to the following guidelines for submitting your DVD: Demonstrate the following: Basic Dance Skills o Splits on both legs o Heel stretch on both legs o Standing back bend o Crash split o Toe touch o Pirouette turn (double) o Axle turn o Leap o Hitch kicks o Front Ankle Grabs o Any other skills you have mastered that you wish to demonstrate Basic Twirling Skills o Demonstrate tosses (any of your choice)- 2 for Flags and 6 or more for majorettes o Demonstrate the basic spins that you know

Routine o The routine can be one that was done in another performance ensemble or one you created on your own. Music and movements should be tasteful and appropriate. Be sure to use this opportunity to show the staff/panel all that you are able to do and incorporate both technical and funk movements. o Majorette DVD’s MUST incorporate twirling AND dance into their routines or do one of each. (a baton twirling routine and a dance routine) o Please DO NOT send us a “stands routine” instead of a full feature style dance. There is a difference. Field dance will include kicks, turns, and movement. Other Important Information • If there are any skills that you cannot demonstrate, state that on your DVD please. Otherwise, we will assume you forgot to include that skill. • Form fitting dance attire and dance shoes are the appropriate attire. • We will not accept footage of you dancing with a performance group ONLY. You can include that to supplement your DVD but you must have all that we have requested above. • Feel free to use a variety of props and equipment to show your versatility. • Videos will not be accepted in any other format other than DVD. Do not send mini-DV tapes or VHS tapes. Footage cannot be emailed. If you have questions concerning your audition DVD, please email thegoldendelights@hotmail.com. We HIGHLY recommend trying to attend a clinic. When you submit a tape we are able to see what you can do, but are not able to work directly with you to help you with basic skills and our style of performance.

any color. Failure to adhere to attire guidelines will result in the candidate being asked to leave the audition activities until requirements are met.

Practice/instruction attire can be any color but must be form fitting. (no sweatpants or oversized t-shirts) With the practice attire, be mindful that appearance, poise and presentation are always be evaluated.
