For decades, the “Marching Machine� has been one of the top HBCU band programs in the nation. Under the direction of Dr. Kenneth G. Ruff, the marching Aggies are one of the largest organizations on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University. AUDITIONS Auditions for instrumentalists are conducted by Mr. Brian Millsapp. The following are expected: • • • •
12 major scales and arpeggios a prepared piece that demonstrates lyrical and technical playing chromatic scale, and sight reading We do accept mail-ins (AUDIO OR VIDEO) IMPORTANT DATES & INFORMATION Auditions are held in the Spring and Summer Freshman Camp is typically the last week in July Full Band Camp begins the first week in August Rehearsals are as follows: Music Rehearsal 4-6 pm Dinner Break 6-7 pm Field Rehearsal 7-8:30 pm

ABOUT COLD STEEL Always a crowd favorite, the Cold Steel Drum Line consists of skilled and dedicated percussionists. The drum line is a critical component of the Marching Machine. Members of the percussion section often perform year round for events both on and off campus. Students are required to participate in a fall and spring ensemble. Percussionists also demonstrate their musical abilities on a variety of instruments during the concert season. AUDITIONS Auditions for the drum line are held in July of each year. Selections are made by the Percussion Director and a selected panel. Prospective members can participate in Spring Clinics to enhance their playing ability and adapt to the Cold Steel style of percussion. Individuals must have their own sticks and mallets. They may be purchased from the Department of Bands. Those interested in auditioning must be able to execute the 13 essential rudiments and have the coordination to learn A&T cadences. ABOUT GOLDEN DELIGHT Dare to be different. Venture into uncharted territory and blaze your own trail. Words of wisdom from a group of women who, since the early 1990's, have done just that. Golden Delight is the auxiliary of the nationally known Blue & Gold Marching Machine of NC A&T State University. KAPPA KAPPA PSI NATIONAL HONORARY BAND FRATERNITY, INC. The men of the Iota Zeta Chapter have been an important part of the support system of the A&T Band since 1990. Kappa Kappa Psi’s members are available at all times to support the Director of Bands and work diligently for the band program. The organization sponsors activities and programs for the development of band students. UNIVERSITY WIND ENSEMBLE The University offers spring Wind Ensemble to all A&T students who wish to audition for the ensemble. The band consists of 70-80 musicians. The ensemble provides challenging band literature geared to entertain and appeal to diverse audiences. The class is designed to assist each musician with detailed musical and technical development, while emphasizing performance techniques to enhance the overall development of the band student and band program.

UNIVERSITY FLUTE CHOIR
The Pep Band performs for the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams for home games and for tournament play. The unit is open to all students of the university and is a high energy group who help to create “Aggie Spirit” through performing exciting music.
Under the baton of Dr. Kenneth Ruff, the flute choir rehearses for campus and community performances.
The ensemble typically rehearses twice a week with games two times a week. Members of pep band must display a great deal of school spirit and energy.
UNIVERSITY BRASS ENSEMBLE Mr. Brian Millsapp is the conductor of the brass ensemble that is designed to enhance the musicianship of brass players in the department. Brass ensemble is open to any student at the university.
