2012 Golden Delight Audition Information (Details are subject to change without notice. Please visit the website regularly for the most up to date information.)
AUDITION INFO Golden Delight is the auxiliary for the A&T Band. The unit consists of 16-20 women who both twirl and dance. We average 4-6 majorettes (baton twirlers) and 14-16 flags. Everyone twirls and dances, but only a select few twirl the baton. Baton twirlers must have twirling experience of at least 2+ years. Flags do not have to possess prior twirling experience but must be fast learners. All candidates must have dance experience! The ladies are a nationally known group of performers that push the limits of traditional HBCU auxiliary squads. Candidates should read over the following materials carefully to become aware of minimum requirements, expectations and the procedure for auditions in 2012.
Ladies selected for this dynamic performance opportunity in 2012 will enjoy: -The chance to perform for large crowds in a variety of venues including the 2012 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, NY -Extensive travel opportunities -Building relationships and lifelong friends with squad and band members -Photo shoots both in studios and on location -Working with youth in summer camps and programs -Over 25 different uniforms -The most extensive flag and prop selection in HBCU marching bands 2012 GUIDELINES Basic Requirements -Must have a 2.3 grade point average or higher -Be admitted to NC A&T State University or one of the participating consortium schools -Incoming freshman ladies are welcome to audition. We are not a co-ed squad. -Be in great physical shape with a lean and toned physique -Dance experience (studio trained, dance classes, competition dance team, marching band auxiliary, etc) Note: step teams and church dance ensembles do not count) -Twirling experience or the ability to learn twirls quickly **Only ladies who demonstrate the basic requirements will be invited to attend auditions. All decisions made by our staff are final and cannot be contested. If invited, see next page for what judges/staff will be looking for.
The Golden Delight staff and judges will select members based on the following criteria: -Dance execution and technique (includes technical movements, stands, walks, field dance, etc) -Twirling Ability (most know basic twirls, tosses and be comfortable with equipment) -Flexibility & Athleticism (able to confidently execute any combination given with ease) -Showmanship and Energy (performing each piece above and beyond) -Ability to learn material quickly and perform the pieces -Appearance and Body Type (must be lean in midsection, with toned arms and legs) -Poise and womanly demeanor -Attitude and personality (positive attitude and excitement/passion about performing) -Versatility and Overall fit for our squad (able to do it ALL and do it well)
Performance Requirements For a complete list of audition expectations, candidates must attend an Audition Prep Session. Candidates should be able to confidently execute the following: -Splits on both legs and crash splits -Jazz/Technical elements (fouette turns, pirouette turns, leaps) -High Kicks (hitch, layout, etc) -Movements demonstrating flexibility and agility such as standing back bends, front ankle grabs, heel stretches, cartwheels, walkovers, scorpions, toe touches, etc. -Gymnastics experience is a plus -Twirling basics and Tossing technique -Rhythm and coordination to execute funk routines
Becoming a Member of Golden Delight Auditions for spots on the Golden Delight Auxiliary are highly competitive. Only those ladies meeting the requirements will be selected. Candidates will have an opportunity to ask questions to staff/captains at each the Annual Interest Meeting and each prep session. Students at UNCG and Bennett College can audition for Golden Delight if they are a part of the Greater Greensboro Consortium. Please be mindful that even if you attend another institution, you are held to the A&T practice schedule and are not excused. For example, if your fall break falls on a week we have a game, you must still participate. Auditioning for Golden Delight Audition Invitation Process Auditions for Golden Delight are by invitation only. Below you will find the process of securing your invitation: 1) Register for auditions via our online form at www.goldendelight.net/auditions.html (it’s in the box on the left side of the page) Registration includes completing the online form and emailing us a headshot photo. Optional: Ladies may chose to send an audition DVD or send us a link from a YouTube clip of your performance abilities. 2 ) Once you register, you will receive a Golden Delight newsletter with more information on our auditions and prep sessions. 3) Attend one of the audition prep sessions (see below) All candidates must attend at least ONE session as this is how you receive an Audition Invitation. Staff will notify you via email if you have been selected to attend our auditions and more detailed information. Deadline to register is June 15, 2012. No exceptions.
Final Auditions Tentative: Friday, June 22- Sunday, June 24, 2012 Specifics concerning the final auditions will be provided to candidates who are extended an invitation to attend. Housing will be provided for invited candidates, however meals are not. Final auditions carry a non-refundable $25.00 registration fee to be paid onsite.
Audition Prep Sessions Remaining spring prep clinics will be offered on the following dates for 2012: Saturday, April 28 10am-6pm Saturday, May 19 10am-6pm Saturday, June 16 10am-6pm All prep sessions are held in the Band Center Dance Studio and include a warm up period, fundamentals of our squad, twirling instruction, dance instruction, question and answer session as well as an opportunity for individuals to demonstrate prepared solo pieces. Each session carries a $20.00 non refundable registration fee due upon check in. These sessions are the only way to receive an invitation to auditions so attendance at one is required. You must register to attend all clinics. Preparing for Auditions We strongly encourage high school seniors and current A&T students that desire to audition to being preparing as soon as possible. Look over our requirements carefully and seek the assistance necessary to meet ALL guidelines. Instructional DVD’s are available for purchase to assist your efforts. Ladies unable to report for the designated final audition period may not audition in 2012. No exceptions. Please plan accordingly. For High School Juniors: It is never too early to begin preparing if you know that NC A&T State University is your choice for college! We recommend that you schedule a campus visit and we set up a time to meet you. Juniors are allowed to attend our Audition prep sessions but cannot audition. Make sure you are aware of our minimum requirements and spend your final year in high school working to develop your skills and acquiring performance experience.
