YORKSHIRE BACH CHOIR
HANDEL DIXIT DOMINUS VIVALDI GLORIA HAYDN NELSON MASS Bethany Seymour, Wendy Goodson sopranos Nancy Cole alto Jonathan Hanley tenor Frederick Long with YORKSHIRE BAROQUE SOLOISTS Peter Seymour conductor This colourful programme features some of the 18th century’s most popular and invigorating music for chorus and instruments. Handel’s vivid setting of Dixit Dominus, composed during his stay in Italy, is one of his most virtuosic and impressive choral compositions. Vivaldi’s colourful Gloria pulsates with festive Venetian energy and is his best known, most popular choral work. Haydn’s late choral works display his consummate skill and imagination as a composer. The Nelson Mass is arguably his most electrifying and atmospheric mass settings, taking us on a musical journey where dark anxiety is dissolved in joyful triumph. “YBC is a top notch choir, tempos bright & pacy!” BBC Radio 3

CONCERTO DI MARGHERITA FRANCESCA BENETTI theorbo, guitar TANJA VORGIN harp GIOVANNA BAVIERA viola da gamba RUI STAEHELIN lute RICARDO LEITÃO PEDRO guitar
Cara La Vita Mia Concerto di Margherita presents a programme of madrigals, instrumental canzone, villanelle and arie from the late 16th century, with a twist: the ensemble's members sing and accompany themselves simultaneously, creating a rich and layered musical texture. The programme, with music by Luzzaschi, de Wert and Frescobaldi among others, is inspired by the magnificent court of Ferrara with their celebrated group of self-accompanying musicians, the Concerto delle Donna. Concerto di Margherita bring a fresh, creative light to songs of hope and bitter resignation from a city on the brink of its demise.
The NCEM is one of eight major partner organisations from across the European Union involved in the eeemerging project that aims to promote new talent in young professional early music ensembles. This dynamic programme is led by the Centre culturel de rencontre d’Ambronay, France and brings together Ars Ramovš, Ljubljana, Slovenia; Centre de musique ancienne de l’Université de musique de Bucarest, Romania; Centre de musique ancienne de Riga, Latvia; Ghislierimusica, Pavia, Italy; Internationale HändelFestspiele Göttingen, Germany; Ozango Productions, Strasbourg, France and the National Centre for Early Music, York. www.eeemerging.eu
