Keeping the music alive!

An increasing number of Festival Friends are choosing to join the newly created NCEM Patrons Scheme giving vital financial support to the organisation year-round.

The NCEM Patrons scheme offers a series of specially organised events designed to give Patrons greater access to our work – through open rehearsals, receptions and supper parties – and includes free membership of the York Early Music Festival Friends Scheme.

York Early Music Festival, the largest event of its kind in the UK, draws together internationally acclaimed musicians in a carefully themed series of concerts, lectures and workshops which are presented over a 10 day period each July. The Friends bring together like-minded individuals from across the world to support the event and to encourage young musicians in their love of historically informed performance. Our Friends care passionately about early music and are very much part of the community of the festival.

Based at the National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) in the refurbished church of St Margaret’s, York, the Festival is the ‘jewel in the artistic crown’ in a year-round programme of concerts and educational activities, highlights of which include the NCEM Composers Award – run in association with BBC Radio 3 – and the biennial York Early Music International Young Artists Competition.

Festival Saver Tickets

The Friends of the Festival help to support the NCEM’s Minster Minstrels, a group of young musicians who rehearse and perform throughout the year and also the biennial International Young Artists Competition, where donations go towards a special ‘Friends Prize’.
