Five key managers axed } Selloane Khalane PHUTHADITJHABA. – Five key managers of the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality are set to be axed following yet another disclaimer audit outcome by the auditor general (AG). Mayor Vusi Tshabalala told Express Mangaung the five senior officials were asked to resign last week. According to Tshabalala, the municipality had been receiving disclaimers from the AG for the past 20 years and continued to regress. Tshabalala said axed senior officials had an adverse attitude towards their work which impacted negatively on the municipality. “Since I joined the municipality last year, there hasn’t been much progress in the departments of the officials implicated. We can’t keep getting disclaimers, the municipality needs to improve,” Tshabalala said. Tshabalala said there was nothing sinister about the intervention. The managers were released under section 57. Tshabalala indicated that the vacancies would be advertised soon, but did not divulge further information on when the posts would be filled. The five axed officials are Hleli Machela, director of spatial planning and human settlement,

Crime investigation fascinates learners

Motheo receives accreditation

MARQUARD. – Learners of the Tlokola Secondary School in Moemaneng near Marquard were recently educated about crime investigation by the Ficksburg police and members of the Bethlehem Forensic Services. WO Maki Likhethe explained that different kinds of evidence are collected from different crime scenes for analysis. Fingerprints are for instance lifted using scotch tape, fluorescent magnetic powder and magnetic brushes. The learners were amazed at the finger prints that were lifted from the A4 paper that had been used in their class. Likhethe said the biology section was responsible for the analysis of evidential material of biological origin like bodily fluids, human tissue and hair. “Blood and human tissue are mostly collected from murder scenes, hence the scene must not be contaminated by walking on and removing anything that might be used to connect the suspect with the crime,” Likhethe said. “Semen, hair and fingernail scrapings of the rapist are removed from the rape victim, therefore we always urge the victims not to wash themselves. “Victims are reminded that they must report the rape within 72 hours so that they can receive a tablet that prevents sexually transmitted diseases. “This section also does facial reconstruction and individualisation when the flesh of the deceased has decomposed beyond recognition or when a human skeleton needs to be identified.” Likhethe said firearms confiscated from crime scenes and illegal firearms found with suspects were put through ballistic analysis. “Each and every firearm leaves

THE Motheo Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College in Bloemfontein received accreditation from the Association of Accounting Technicians – South Africa (AAT (SA)) on Tuesday, 24 March. This will enable the institute to offer AAT (SA) qualifications to students, including students from rural areas. Eight colleges have thus far benefitted from Bankseta’s funding support to build capacity at public institutions. This national initiative is aligned to the Department of Higher Education and Training’s (DHET) requirement to promote access and reach to students. The Motheo TVET College is the first of these colleges to be afforded AAT (SA) accreditation. The official certificate handover will be conducted by Max Makhubalo, Bankseta CEO, and Nadine Kater, AAT(SA) general manager. “Bankseta has taken on the role assigned by the government to collaborate with TVET colleges to make them more efficient and capable. This first milestone of awarding accreditation to a college will go a long way to promote access, reach and quality, as required by the White Paper for Post School Education,” said Makhubalo. Meanwhile, Harriet Amoda, AAT (SA) project director, said AAT (SA) was delighted and heartened by the commitment shown by all participating colleges to the accreditation process. “We have been particularly encouraged by the level of preparedness of the colleges. The majority of whom we found had sound quality management systems requiring minimal support from our accreditation team to align to AAT (SA)’s requirements. “The AAT (SA) undertakes a

The mark will be used to link it to the serial number of the firearm, which will also reveal the firearm licence holder. “The firearms must be kept inside a locked safe that is built into the wall, or be in the holster of the firearm licence holder all the time.” Learners agreed to report anyone who is in possession of an illegal firearm to the police. Likhethe said police investigators always enforced health and safety measures at the scene of a crime and requested the learners, as members of the community, to stay away from these, because they may be exposed to hazards like chemicals, biological material such as blood, or explosives.

They study and interpret it according to acceptable scientific principles to bring criminals to justice and

The process undertaken seeks to ensure that our training providers will, once accredited, not only deliver our qualifications, but that they do so ensuring adherence to our standards,” Amoda said. “We believe that this accreditation will go a long way to making the TVET colleges learning institutions of choice for learners seeking tertiary qualifications. Uniquely, the Motheo TVET College had two campuses accredited. The accreditation of the Thaba Nchu Campus means that students in a rural setting such as Thaba Nchu will not have to travel great distances to a metro to access quality tertiary education,” concluded Amoda.

Dealing with debt sensibly LEVELS of household debt in South Africa have improved slightly, but at 78% of disposable income are still much too high. “At these levels people get stuck in a debt trap, spending nearly all their money to pay the instalments. They don’t have any money left to save and even a small mishap such as a car breaking down could mean defaulting on payments or having to take on additional debt, further deepening the crisis,” says Robert Gwerenge, head of innovation and business development at Direct Axis. He explains that while some debt, such as a loan to further a child’s education, can improve your circumstances, excessive debt is restrictive and limits your choices. “A good rule of thumb is to limit your debt to about 35% of your monthly income.” If you have exceeded this, here are some tips to take back control of your finances. Record your expenses Keep track of what you spend your money on. You might be surprised at your unnecessary or frivolous expenditure. Draw up a budget Take a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. On the left-hand side, write down the household income. On the other side, write down all your expenses. Include repayments on loans, buying food, and so on. Cut out unnecessary expenses, but be realistic. If you have money left, save it. You can now save up to R30 000 a year tax free. Consolidate your debt This is a financial term for taking out a loan to pay creditors. Only having to repay one loan makes it easier to manage your finances and you will save on the number of monthly account fees. Also, if you spend a lot of income to make the minimum payment on your credit cards, you will save money in the long run by taking out the loan and cancelling the cards. By spreading debt over 24 or 36 months, you will free up cash flow. Spend sensibly Certain kinds of debt, such as credit cards and store accounts, are expensive. If you do

not want to carry cash and still want the convenience of using a card, get a debit card. Your rule for getting out of and staying out of debt should be that if you cannot afford to pay cash for something, do not buy it. Shop smarter Compare prices and shop around for bargains. If you have access to the internet, it is easy to do comparisons. Make use of retail loyalty offers and incentives. Cut unnecessary spending Eating out, getting takeaway lunches rather than making your own sandwiches or buying cappuccinos can eat into your disposable income. Supplement your income Sell the old bicycles or sports equipment cluttering up your garage. Alternatively, you might be able to earn a second income house sitting or using a skill or hobby such as carpentry or baking to earn a bit more. Use the extra money to pay off high-interest debt first. Then save whatever you have left. Start an emergency fund It is a good idea to try and put a little money aside for unexpected expenses. This will mean that when something goes wrong, you will not need to borrow money to solve the problem. Be wise with windfalls If you get some additional money, such as a bonus or tax refund, do not squander it. Rather use it to pay off what you owe, starting with the most expensive debt. Try to save a bit. Find out where you can earn the most interest at the lowest cost and remember to ask about tax-free savings options. Keep at it Getting out of debt takes time. Cultivate good financial habits and stick to them. Once you have paid off high-interest debts, shut down store accounts and cancel credit cards so you are not tempted in future. Save the money you would have used on the monthly instalments.

Keep the moral high ground KEEP the moral high ground, the saying goes. It is not easy. When people criticise you unfairly or treat you badly, you are told to hold your head high and keep the moral high ground. This means you must behave honestly, decently, kindly, forgiving and accommodating. No matter how rough it is, you must never take revenge, act badly, be very angry, hurt anyone, act irrationally or rashly, or be aggressive. No matter what the provocation. No matter what challenges are thrown at you, no matter how unfairly others behave – you will not retaliate in kind. You will carry on being good and civilised and morally irreproachable. Your manners will be impeccable and your language moderate and dignified. I am one who is always being picked on, or it sometimes seems like that. There are a lot of people who have not seen me for a long time. When you meet these people at a funeral, for example, they will say something negative and hurtful. It hurts and I always wish that I had an answer, but they always find me flat-footed. Maybe it is not my nature to hurt other people and I have to act outside my nature to be nasty. To tell the truth I also want to hurt them back. I will mull it in my head what I will say if I see them next time or if I meet another mean person, but I am always caught off-guard. When somebody was spreading lies and accusing me unfairly, one friend of mine kept on saying “keep the moral high ground”. It was not easy. I became aggressive and wanted to inflict physical harm. Anger makes one rash. It makes one to react. The good advice I got was that don’t react, but respond. When people are nasty to you it’s natural to want to get your own back and lash out. Sometimes it seems that these people are negative by nature and they leave their home with the intention of hurting the very next person they meet. They never have anything positive to say. They are poised and ready to sting and be disagreeable. Try to avoid these people. They are not worth your friendship.

My view Advocate Kuni Ditira Author

Sometimes it seems that these people are negative by nature and they leave their home with the intention of hurting the very next person they meet. They never have anything positive to say. They are poised and ready to sting and be disagreeable. Try to avoid these people. They are not worth your friendship. Learn how to control your anger or anxious reaction when in their company. Try to remain calm and tell yourself that you will not satisfy them by demeaning yourself. Instead of saying something positive, they pull you down. Once the rough times have passed you will be proud of yourself for keeping the moral high ground. It will taste a thousand times better than revenge ever can. Keeping the moral high ground means that you are much higher than them. You don’t have to go down to their level. Going down to their level demeans you and cheapens you. Revenge is for losers. It doesn’t mean you are a pushover or a wimp. It just means that any action you do take will be honest and dignified. ) To contribute to this column, send your piece of around 500 words to Jabulani.Dlamini@volksblad.com.

NCR releases reports THE National Credit Regulator (NCR) on Tuesday (31/03) released the Consumer Credit Market Report (CCMR) and the Credit Bureau Monitor (CBM), which are based on the data submitted to the NCR by registered credit providers and credit bureaus respectively. This latest edition of the reports covers credit market information up to December 2014. Nomsa Motshegare, CEO of the NCR, states that the total value of new credit granted increased from R110,18 billion for the quarter ended September 2014 to R117,64 billion for the quarter ended December 2014, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 6,77%. The following were some of the most significant trends observed in terms of credit granted for the quarter ended December 2014: The value of new mortgages granted decreased by R611,22 million (1,66%) quarteron-quarter, but increased by R1,56 billion (4,50%) year-on-year; secured credit, which is dominated by vehicle finance, increased by R5,17 billion (14,19%) quarter-on-quarter and R1,03 billion (2,54%) year-on-year and unsecured credit increased by R468,34 million (2,57%) quarter-on-quarter, but decreased by

R2,91 billion (13,48%) year-on year. As at December 2014, the total outstanding consumer credit balances (or gross debtor’s book) was R1,59 trillion, representing a quarter-on-quarter increase of 1,27% and a year-on-year growth of 4,51%. The trends for outstanding balances for the quarter ended December 2014 were as follows: Mortgages debtor’s book increased by R6,85 billion (0,82%) for the quarter ended December 2014, and R23,18 billion (2,83%) on a year-on-year basis; secured credit debtor’s book increased by R6,87 billion (2,02%) for the quarter ended December 2014. Credit bureaus held records for 22,84 million credit-active consumers, an increase of 1,5% when compared to the 22,50 million in the previous quarter. Consumers classified in good standing increased by 133 000, to 12,58 million consumers. As a percentage of the total number of credit-active consumers at 55,1%, this reflects a decrease of 0,2% quarter-on-quarter and an increase of 3,2% year-on-year. The number of consumers with impaired records has increased by 211 000 from 10,05

Consumers must learn to live within their financial means and borrow responsibly. “Those experiencing financial distress must make arrangements with their credit providers or seek assistance from any debt counsellors before running into arrears,” concluded Motshegare. ) Comparisons in this release: “Quarter-onquarter” refers to a comparison between the September 2014 and December 2014 quarters, and “year-on-year” refers to a comparison between the December 2013 and December 2014 quarters.

“PRAISE waiteth for thee, O God, in Zion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed.” Psalm 65:1 Many things happen in our lives. The greatest weapon that we have as believers, which is more powerful than any weapon of mass destruction, is praise. If we have not praised God to the point of removing our clothes as David did, we will only have an anointing to kill cockroaches and not Goliath. There are many things we overlook that will make us to lose the power of God. Some people say God speaks to them. However, there is no way we can hear God’s voice without being musical. If we cannot sing to God and praise and worship Him, then the battle is half lost because God will never hear us. Moses taught the children of Israel the commandments of God in song. Deuteronomy 31:22 says: “Moses, therefore, wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel.” Exodus 15:1: “Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spoke, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.” About 3 million people all sang. The singing was not done only by the choir, but by all the Israelites; the entire congregation sang. We cannot get to heaven without singing, for in heaven all that takes place is singing. Nobody can join heaven without singing, therefore, we have to learn from this. God can never find one as a beloved if one is not singing. Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice (Philippians 4:4), in other words, rejoicing has to be continuous. The reason we live is to worship God. The devil is strong because he is a singer and sings a lot. David practised killing lions and bears with his bare hands from the age of 12, for praise gives boldness and confidence. A person who carries praise and worship walks in glory, and the presence of God is evident in such a life. The habitation of God Jehovah is praise. With prayer God will despatch angels to us but with praise He comes down Himself. Prayer has to be accompanied with praise. When Peter was imprisoned the best that God did for him was to send an angel because only prayers were offered but no praise. But, in the case of Paul and Silas they praised and used the chains as musical instruments and even the prisoners paid attention to their praise. The prisoners were captivated by what they were hearing because there was something happening around them. Prayer point: Call the blood of Jesus three times, his name once and pray: Son of the living God, let your spirit enter into my heart. Let me become your property, in Jesus’ name. WoW: “If you are carrying the grace of God, you can never be disgraced by man.” Tim Omotoso ) If you have a religious piece to share send it to Jabulani.Dlamini@volksblad.com

Bloem Shelter is an inter-denominational; multiracial organisation the goal of which is to serve the community of Mangaung. Bloem Shelter for Women is a Christian project for women, women with children, the elderly and families. Many of the individuals are placed at the centre by the SAPS, Social Welfare, Childline, Correctional Services, hospitals, churches and members of the community. Some arrive here out of their own volition. At Bloem Shelter, there are approximately 40 to 50 individuals being taken care of per day. They have access to washing facilities, a place to sleep and meals. In addition to their basic needs being met, there is also medical attention provided as well as any other specific counselling required by any of the individuals (e.g. counselling regarding drug and alcohol addiction as well as pastoral, spiritual or psychological counselling, which are provided by volunteer professionals). With regard to the children, their ages range from newborn babies to 18-year-olds. Children are assessed to identify their schooling level and are then enrolled in school. Games hone skills

PHUTHADITJHABA. – The indigenous African games can be used to teach mathematical problem-solving skills. This is according to a recent study of the University of the Free State (UFS). The study by Mathematics Education lecturer at the Qwaqwa Campus, Dr Tshele Moloi, validates marginalised knowledge systems as well as cultural wealth of the African communities. “The study shows that the background knowledge of children obtained from playing indigenous games is very effective in enhancing the understanding of abstract mathematical concepts, irrespective of their social class location,” Moloi, who has recently graduated with a PhD in Mathematics Education, said. He said this study also emphasised the significant role played by parents and community members in the teaching and learning of problem-solving skills using indigenous games like diketo and morabaraba, to mention just a few. “Diketo is a coordination game where ten small stones or marbles and one ghoen or big stone are made available for each player. A small hole of about 5 cm deep is dug in the ground where the small stones will be placed for the players. Boys and girls of different ages can play this game and only two players can play at a time. “It is during this diketo game that learners can identify that there are

variables involved X both independent and dependent variables,” he said. Moloi said in round one of the game, it was noticed that the stones scooped out of the hole could be described by the pattern: = +, (where it denotes the throwing of the ghoen). “Again, stones placed into the hole can be illustrated by the pattern: + 10, (where it denotes the throwing of the ghoen). There are lots of patterns that can be obtained when the player is in round two (seng two), et cetera. “These patterns (which emanated from round one, two, three, et cetera) can be put on the Cartesian plane, which can then demonstrate the linear functions.” The game of diketo, according to Moloi, helps to concretise concepts such as linear equations, conceptualisations of independent and dependent variables. Circles visualised in diketo can be arranged in such a way that it illustrates the area of the circle, gradient = . On the other hand, the game of morabaraba (board game), which is played by two players at a time with each having 12 tokens known as “cows”, allows for a simplified lesson on area and perimeter of squares. “The teacher can integrate geometry and algebra through the stuctural nature of morabaraba which may also help in simplifying concepts like probability and chance in data handling,” Moloi said.

ROAD crash fatalities and injuries represent an unacceptably high global problem, affecting all sectors of society, the Road Accident Fund said in a statement. Drivers, pedestrians and all road users alike run the risk of perishing on the road due to irresponsible driving habits, such as speeding, use of alcohol, being fatigued and overtaking when it is not safe to do so. Hot on the heels of the 2014 festive season is the Meet the #FutureYou Youth Campaign. The Road Accident Fund (RAF) once again took to the roads on Monday (30/03) to promote road safety interventions at taxi ranks, petrol stations and via various media platforms with message maps to encourage road users to travel with caution on the roads during Easter. Phumelela Dhlomo, RAF chief marketing officer, said while the RAF’s mandate was to compensate crash victims, the fund had identified many areas in road safety which had been previously neglected. “To remedy this, we are heightening awareness of government’s 365 Day Road Safety Programme. “The fund will continue to remind people about its existence with the hope that they will never need us if they all adhere to the rules of the road.” Meet the #FutureYou Campaign’s key focus is to motivate road users travelling to church retreats, who are on vacation or are visiting family, to reach their #FutureYou by arriving safely at their destinations. Everyone wants to see tomorrow. Everyone wants to progress to the next stage in their life and live their dreams to the fullest. “We want you to live long enough to meet the #FutureYou; stay awake and alive on the road during this Easter period,” said Dhlomo. In the event of an accident, crash victims are encouraged to register their claims directly with the fund. To learn more about road safety tips follow the campaign on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using #TakeCharge, #Easter, #FutureYou and #RAFRoadSafety.

THE Harmony Gold Mining Company has received 897 claims relating to the explosion which occurred on Saturday (21/03) at the Brand One Mine in Welkom. Claims were submitted at the mining company’s special operational centre which was set up at the Silvania Spar in Welkom. Those affected had until last Friday (27/03) to report and lodge claims against the mining company. Bobo Ndinisa, Harmony’s spokesperson, said of the affected people, 50 received trauma counselling. The explosion followed the ventilation of a shaft in Welkom. The shaft in question was in the process of being rehabilitated as part of an extensive rehabilitation programme by the mining company in the Free State. It is suspected that methane gas caused the explosion resulting in damages to some properties in residences such as Silvania and Jan Celliers Park, which are situated within the vicinity of the shaft. The explosion reportedly left contract workers on site with minor injuries. The accident occurred late afternoon, apparently when the contractors were busy filling the shaft barrel with rock. Ndinisa said a full-scale internal investigation into the incident was still ongoing, adding that the mining company was also yet to determine the cost of the damages lodged by affected people.

Last phase at complex best yet ARE you looking to buy a new and improved, architecturally designed and inspired house in a very secure complex? Look no further. Lenova Construction and Development specialises in providing in each prospective home owner’s unique housing needs. All previous clients’ ideas, requirements and budgets have been taken into consideration to deliver a unique final phase at the Delano View complex in Lilyvale. Construction on the fifth and final phase of the Delano View security complex near the Botanical Gardens is officially underway. Lenova invites prospective residents to view a few of the units that have been completed already. The property market in Bloemfontein has been booming the past few years, especially in the north of the city. Security complexes popped up like Karoo flowers after a rainy season. New developments are everywhere, large, small, and beautiful – some are built with less ambition, while others are created with love and experience. Delano View is one of the flowers that stands out above all the surrounding developments. With each new development, Lenova Construction and Development has taken into consideration thousands of suggestions gathered from previous buyers and combined it with experience from earlier developments to deliver a first-class product. The products keep on improving with each new phase of a development and by the time Lenova starts the last phase, prospective residents can be assured that when buying a unit, it will be one of the best and most revised. The 89 units in the last phase of Delano View will include three- and four-bedroom units. The units consist of single- and doublestory units, with tiled floors, tiled bathrooms, energy-efficient prepaid electricity and water systems, energy-sav-

UNITS in the Delano View complex in Lilyvale, with the improved last phase. ing heat pumps and energy-saving windows. The development is a forerunner in the revitalisation of the real estate market in Bloemfontein. Changes to the design of the units to better suit residents’ needs include installing a ceramic cooking hood in the single-storey B-type unit. In the C-type the interior design was revised to better suit residents’ requirements by enclosing the braai area with stack aluminium glass doors so that residents can walk out onto a covered and enclosed braai area which can be used as a dining room. The D-type also boasts a swanky new eye level oven and ceramic cooker hood.

The ground-floor plan in the E-type was completely revised and some areas, which can now be utilised as a study room or kids’ playroom, enclosed. On the top floor a room that can be utilised as a walk-in closet or a study was added. Not only was the interior layout of the units changed in the last phase, but Lenova also took the liberty of ensuring that units are situated in the best possible way. Each unit is built with the best view in mind and sunset and sunrise have been taken into consideration as well. Furthermore, the beautiful landscaping finishes off the area and an established communal garden and playground for the children will make residents feel

right at home. There are extra visitors’ parking for friends and family. Also, when residents are in the mood to take a stroll or walk the dog, they can walk in safety and enjoy the scenery, as the walkways are not only secure, but beautiful to look at as well. In phase one a communal play area for smaller children was installed and the process has been started to build a jungle gym suitable for older children with swings and a slide in the last phase. The last phase of Delano View is definitely the best – if you did not get a chance to buy in the first four phases, hurry up and secure your unit in the best phase yet.

RAHMAN’S 1-DAY SPECIAL PRAYER “CHANGED OUR LIVES”

After 4 years searching for a right man, N. Marelette is so happy that she recently married a caring husband just 2 months after Rahman had prayed for her.

2 Weeks after attending Rahman's special prayer meeting in Sasolburg, I Mrs. W.S. Jantjies successfully got my first job promotion at work. I had spent 5 years apllying for a job promotion at work.

Mr. S. Hendrik and his wife bought this lovely Vereeniging house, 3 months after attending Rahman's 1 day special prayer.

Mrs. J.F. Langeveldt (Vanderbijlpark):

I meet this powerful man Rahman on a TV program.

Before I had suffered for years and I tried many people for help but all failed. I cound not believe it when he showed me my enemies in form of a dream and whatever they were doing to pull me down. Every single detail he showed me about my enemies was so true.

Rahman accurately read my fortune and told me all my problems without me speaking a single word to him. Within 6 days after his prayers, my husband left his girlfriend and came back to me plus my enemies approached me and confessed the bad things they did to me. Rahman also gave me a special ring to fix my financial problems, and a love crystal that made people at home and at work like me, listen to me and do for me whatever I wanted from them without asking me any questions. Even though others have failed to deliver to your expectations, this may be your last chance to

NEWS

Hard work pays off for Cardoso national anthem? It felt like a dream when I walked out there, seeing a couple of thousand fans wearing the national team jersey. It’s an amazing experience and for every footballer and young footballer, I am sure they can’t wait to do the same to achieve that goal. It has always been a goal of mine to play for the national team.

WHEN Bafana Bafana head coach Ephraim Mashaba announced his 30-man squad for the two international friendly matches against Swaziland and Nigeria, he named six new players – among them was Daniel Cardoso of Free State Stars. Not only was he called up for the first time into the national team set-up, but he also made it into the starting line-up and played the entire 90 minutes against Swaziland in a 3-1 win at the Somhlolo Stadium on Wednesday (25/03). MATLHOMOLA MORAKE spoke to Cardoso about his call-up, his debut and his hopes.

It must have felt even greater to win the match on debut? It was great, the squad battled a bit in the recent Afcon tournament, going up one nil then pressure coming – I felt it here too. We go 2-0 up and Swaziland scores one goal and piles on the pressure. But it was a good win for us and we can only go higher from here.

WHO is Daniel Cardoso? I am a player from Free State Stars. I am a versatile player X I play at right-back, left-back, centre-back, I have played in the midfield, I have played upfront, in fact anywhere on the field except for goalkeeper.

What do you think of your overall performance against Swaziland? I think I did well overall. Like I said, in the beginning there were a lot of nerves, but when I came out of those nerves I started playing my natural football and it felt much better.

And your surname . . . It’s a Portuguese surname, my dad is from Portugal, his parents grew up in Portugal, and he moved to South Africa when he was younger and my mom is from South Africa.

Did you speak to anyone prior to the match to calm down the nerves? I spoke to a few players who said I had to play my normal game and even before I walked out onto the field the coach said I had to play my own game and not worry about other things and it helped to calm me down a bit.

Have you been to Portugal? I have yes, I actually went for trials with some club there when I was younger, but nothing came of it and I returned to South Africa. Would you like to play in Portugal some day? Of course yes, I would really like to play anywhere in Europe, as long as it is a good league I don’t mind. Coming back to Bafana Bafana matters, what was your first reaction when you heard your name called up in the squad announcement? I was sitting at home in Bethlehem in the Free State, and I got a tweet from one of my friends to say I have been called up to the national team and I didn’t believe him and ten minutes later I got a call from the media. They said I should check on a sports channel on television and I saw my name there. Then I had goose bumps all over my body for about ten minutes. I was very thrilled about it. I have been working hard. I didn’t expect the call up, because I was injured at the beginning of the season, but I must say hard work pays off. Who was the first person you called or spoke to about your inclusion in the national team? My agent Bradley Carnell, I have a very good relationship with him, and then I called my

What was it like mixing with players like Ayanda Patosi, Lebogang Phiri, Thulani Serero, Andile Jali X who all ply their trade overseas? It’s a great feeling. When the overseas contingent comes back here it’s a big family, we all stick together and that’s what I think brings a lot of confidence in the team.

DANIEL CARDOSO of Free State Stars made his debut for Bafana Bafana against Swaziland at the Somhlolo Stadium in Swaziland last Wednesday (25/03). Photo: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix dad who was in shock and didn’t believe it until I convinced him it was true. Did you at any stage of your career think you would be playing for Bafana Bafana some day? I did, but never thought it would be so soon. I really thought you have to play for one of the bigger teams to be recognised, but now it has happened earlier than I anticipated, so hard work really pays off. How were your first few days

in camp? It was awesome. I am working with a great bunch of players – the cream of the crop in South Africa. The coaching staff, the backroom staff, they were all welcoming so it has been a good venture so far. Day of the match against Swaziland. You see your name in the starting line-up, what goes through your mind? Again emotions running high, it was a good feeling for me. I really didn’t expect to get a

starting berth on my debut, but I believe it’s a great achievement for me and my football career and I just hope it gets beter and better. Were you nervous? Of course I was a bit nervous and you could see it on the field. In the first half I was a bit shy to play, but in the second half I came out of my shell and was more confident. How was it walking onto the field, wearing the national team jersey, singing the

Anything you have learnt from those guys or the set-up? First of all it’s the professionalism in the team, that’s the first thing you notice about the players here. I also have a lot of respect for the guys. I look up to them, the likes of Itumeleng Khune, Mandla Masango, Bongani Zungu, Kamohelo Mokotjo – all the players who were in camp. Finally, what lies ahead for Daniel Cardoso? I am still concentrating on Free State Stars, we are in the bottom half of the table and it’s not a comfortable feeling. We escaped relegation last season so this time the focus is to help get the team to safety and I will take it from there.

Mr and Mrs Thabo My last resort to bring back my lost lover. Me and my wife Bridget had given up after losing my job and struggling to keep up with my car and house payment. I had to change schools for my children from private schools to government schools because financially we were not stable anymore, but thanks to my in-law who gave me this woman of God's number, she helped me to turn my life around financially by giving me a magic ring which brought back hope into my life. It cost me only R800 and for the first time in my life I went into a casino with my wife and we used our magic to hit a jackpot. Now my house and car are paid off and my children are back in private schools - now life is so wonderful, so in case you are looking for the best healer, please look no more.

A HISTORIC end to an Australian tour for the Emirates Lions with three victories from four and a comprehensive victory for the Vodacom Bulls over the Crusaders highlighted the weekend’s Vodacom Super Rugby action. While the DHL Stormers and the Toyota Cheetahs were defeated in their respective matches in New Zealand, the Cell C Sharks moved to the top of the South African Conference log following their victory over the Force in Durban. Vodacom Bulls pivot Handré Pollard continued his good form as he ended the weekend second in the Points category behind the Chiefs’ Aaron Cruden on 17. Pollard scored one point less as he topped the Penalty Goals bracket with the Crusaders’ Dan Carter with four apiece. The Springbok pivot is the leading points scorer on 108 points with Sharks flyhalf Pat Lambie 18

points behind him in second place. Playing in his 100th Super Rugby match, Stormers flanker Schalk Burger’s 22 carries in his side’s defeat to the Highlanders was the most in the seventh round. FS not playing to full potential } Sidwell Guduka EVEN though his side won their Vodacom Cup match against the Boland Cavaliers, coach Rory Duncan was not happy with the way they had played. The Toyota Free State XV convincingly defeated the visitors by 52-15 in an entertaining match played at the Clive Solomon Stadium on Saturday (28/03). “Certainly, we played much better than last week. But I thought we still didn’t play to our full potential. I believe we could have done much better,” Duncan told Express after the match. “We are certainly happy with the five points, but I am not overly happy with the way we played. But at the end of the day we won the match,” he added. It was a good comeback victory for the Free Staters after losing their opening fixture against SWD Eagles by 33-17 in George, Western Cape, two weeks ago. “From a set-piece point of view our line-outs were a lot better than last week. Our defence was also solid. When we attacked we were a little more direct, but we battled with momentum from the first and second phase,” said Duncan. In their next encounter, the Free State XV will travel to Kokstad to face the Cell C Sharks XV on Friday, 10 April, at 15:30. “It’s going to be a very tough game. The Sharks are a good side and they have a lot of depth. But we’ll do a lot of homework on these guys,” the coach said. After Saturday’s win, the Free State XV moved up to the fourth spot on the South Section log with five points after two rounds of fixtures. They trail log leaders Western Province by five points, who have collected ten points after two games. Scorers: Toyota Free State XV – Tries: Coenie van Wyk, Louis Venter, Reuben Johannes, Zingisa April, Louwrens Strydom, Enver Brandt (2), Devin Oosthuizen. Conversions: Van Wyk (5), Kevin Stevens. Boland Cavaliers – Tries: Christian Rust, Eric Zana. Conversion: Rust. Penalty goal: Zana.

Search is on EXCITEMENT amongst aspiring football hopefuls across South Africa is building up as the 2015 Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search fast approaches its closing date. The nationwide football talent identifying initiative by Nedbank has been running concurrently with the Nedbank Cup OWEN DA GAMA since 2013 in a bid to enable players to make their dreams a reality. The entries for the Free State try-outs close on Tuesday (07/04), and Nedbank is urging footballers from across the province to grab this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make their dreams happen. Trials in Ace Magashule’s province will be conducted at the Free State Stadium on 27 April, starting at 08:00. Through the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search, players from the furthest parts of the country have been given the chance to play against the winners of the Nedbank Cup such as Kaizer Chiefs in 2013 and Orlando Pirates in 2014. The Ke Yona Team Search is spearheaded by four of the most respected football technicians in the country, being Shakes Mashaba, Owen da Gama, Khabo Zondo and Mike Mangena. Bafana Bafana assistant coach, Owen da Gama, has made a plea to players to register and possibly make a name for themselves through the Ke Yona Team Search. “We are looking forward to another edition of this exciting initiative by Nedbank that not only makes dreams happen, but will assist in producing a wider pool of talented players to contribute to the standard of football in the country. “On behalf of all the coaches, we are urging all footballers to make use of this opportunity and register for this year’s edition,” says Da Gama. Players between the ages of 18 and 25 in possession of a valid South African ID can make their dreams happen by simply dialling *120*KEYONA# or *120*539662# and following the easy steps to enter. To date, the Nedbank Ke Yona Team search has had close to 25 000 entries, a clear indication that young footballers are ready to make their dreams happen.

My husband is back after 15 years of divorce. Mama Asiha showed me my enemies in a mirror. But now we are together again and very happy. I almost lost hope when my husband asked for a divorce. Living without my husband for 15 years was not easy. I had to support myself financially and consulted top healers, who didn't help. I heard of mama Asiha on the radio and on television, my workmate he had helped with my financial problems. She told me everything that was happening in my life before I said anything to her. She took out all the witchcraft, showed me the 'mirror in a dish of water'. I saw my husband's girlfriend . She prayed for me with her special powers . My enemies confessed now and I'm also now promoted at work . I don't know how to thank mama Asiha, but to make it public. With her magic ring she can protect homes from bad evils.

Contact Mama Asiha for an appointment on 081 095 9948.

After 10 years of struggling, my husband is back at home after mama Linda showed me my enemies in a mirror . We are now a happy, married couple - thank you, mama Linda. My husband stayed with his girlfriend for 10 years. Without him I struggled to support myself and could not even pay our children's school fees. I visited traditional healers, but with no help. Then I heard of Maria Linda on a radio talk show and my neighbour whom he helped and rescued from black magic. I visited mama Linda and paid R200. He told me about my future and my marriage problems. He put a mirror in a dish with water and I saw the faces of my enemies and my husband's girlfriend. He prayed for me and gave me holy water and oil to wash myself. After two days I saw results, my enemies confessed their wrong doings towards me and my husband left his girlfriend and come back home. I'm now happy after visiting mama Linda .

The 74-year-old runner, who celebrated her birthday on Monday (30/03), will not be spending Good Friday with her family as she will be taking part in the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon’s 10 km trail run in Cape Town on the same day on 3 April. Smuts, a member of the Pentagon Pistols Running Club, will also be competing in the 21 km half-marathon event a day later. And she will be the oldest runner who will be participating in both the trail run and half-marathon in this year’s Two Oceans Marathon. The Free Stater has already completed 22 Old Mutual Two Oceans 56 km ultra-marathons and she will participate in her third half-marathon this weekend. The keen runner, whose life revolves around running, hit the

road to the Western Cape on Tuesday (31/03) – and she will have two days to rest and acclimatise to the Cape Town weather before her first race. Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the Two Oceans Ultra-Marathon will run along the detour route of Ou Kaapse Weg due to the recent devastating fires that raged along Cape Town’s southern peninsula, causing significant damage to Chapman’s Peak’s fragile vegetation. “This is not a decision that was made lightly. We are responsible for every single runner on race day, so all decisions were made with this in mind,” said Carol Vosloo, general manager of the Two Oceans Marathon. “We remained hopeful that Chappies would be available to us until the very end. But it became clear that the extent of the damage done to the mountain, coupled with the vulnerability of the mountain pass to weather changes, would hold a significant safety risk for our runners and volunteers. “It was simply a risk we were not willing to take, and we have always been very clear in our intention to

place participants’ safety at the forefront of all planning,” Vosloo added. “Although it is disappointing that the ultra-marathon will not traverse Chappies, a ‘certain’ race over Ou Kaapse Weg is preferable to one that may be interrupted if routed over Chapman’s Peak Drive,” she concludes. Despite the route change, Old Mutual will still reward the winning male and female runners with R1 million for finishing the ultra-marathon in record time. The men’s record of 3:03:44 was set in 1988 by road-running legend Thompson Magawana, while Frith van der Merwe set the women’s record a year later in 1989 when she ran 3:30:36.

WILLEMIEN SMUTS will be busy running this weekend.

Things in my life went from good to worse in a very short time. My love live, financial problems jealousy, my husband’s family were all against me. Luckily I came across Marria through a friend. She helped me and showed me my enemies through a mirror for only R200. She did miracles in my life. She told me all my problems without mentioning anything to her. She showed me the people who worked hard to see me suffering some of which were my friends and relatives. She performed a special prayer, washed away my bad luck and cleansed my home. Gave me a love potion with a ring for my financial problems in less than five days, my husband was always by my side and my enemies confessed and asked for forgiveness. Come and visit me at Northridge Mall.
