Miss FS crowned } Sidwell Guduka

THE Pacofs’ Sand du Plessis Theatre in Bloemfontein came alive with glitz, glamour and entertainment on Saturday evening as it hosted the annual Miss Free State Pageant. The gala event, sponsored by Preky Jams Communications and hosted by Ofm’s Success Lekabe, saw 16 finalists competing for the prestigious title. Themed the Secret Fashion Show, producers First Crew Productions put up a great show from beginning to end. As the beautiful women strutted their stuff in swimwear, casual wear and glamorous evening gowns, the judges narrowed the list to the top five contestants. There would be only one winner and two princesses and competition was tough. In the end, the beautiful and charming Annerien Erasmus (22), who had a strong fan base cheering for her throughout, was crowned, and Margo Fargo (20), and Phumodzo Rammbwa, (20), were crowned first and second princesses respectively. In an interview with Express, Erasmus said being Miss Free State “feels good”. She did more than enough to impress nine judges on the night. “It’s an amazing feeling. I’m happy and proud of myself. I didn’t expect it at all - there was so much competition. It was a very tight contest. I thought Fargo would win it,” she said. “This was my first pageant and to win it is absolutely unreal. I was shocked when I was announced as the winner but, in the same breath, I was excited. I couldn’t believe I was the new Miss Free State. It felt pretty good with the audience screaming and shouting.” Erasmus, who is a fitness trainer

were amongst the audience. Apart from them I had 59 people who came to support me. Their presence kept me going and boosted my confidence. I kept smiling all the

time so that people could see my energy and excitement. I’m thankful to all the people who supported me throughout the event. I want to say a big thank you to them.”

For her efforts, Erasmus won a lot of prizes that included a trip to China where she will represent South Africa at the Miss Tourism International.

Mayeza overall awards winner } Tladi Moloi HANTSI MAYEZA, the owner of Maono Construction and Property Development, was an overall winner during the 2013 Govan Mbeki Awards which were held in the Bethlehem Town Hall on Thursday night. Her construction company came second in the Best Woman Construction in a Subsidy Market category before she scooped another award in the Best Priority Project category. Mayeza walked home with a whopping R130 000 cheque, certificates and a trophy. She said she was overwhelmed by the Free State government’s recognition even though she did not expect the awards. “I have completed the housing project in Parys and Bethlehem. The best priority award was for the Bethlehem project where I built houses. I am a banker by trade and I started in the construction business four years ago,” she said. She said she had been doing her work for which she was appointed without expecting anything in return. “I wanted to deliver quality for the people of the Free State. I always told my team that we should build homes for the people, not houses. For me a home is a warm environment, hence I have decided to put ceilings in all the houses,” she said. Retlaphela Construction was the second runner-up followed by Maono Construction coming second with Poloko Trading 509 winning the Best Woman Construction in a Subsidy Market category. My heart goes out to the people of Eldorado Park because I know what they are facing and the heartache that they are feeling, but why cry out to the president? No disrespect to the president because the Bible teaches us that we must submit to authority. This drug pandemic does not just exist in Eldo’s, but across the nation and even the world. The Bible says that our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against powers, principalities and forces of darkness (demonic powers). The Bible goes on to say that we must not put our trust in flesh (Mr President), for those that put their trust in flesh will be cursed. We need to trust God (Jeremiah 17). I was supernaturally delivered by the most high God ten years ago and never looked back. I want to tell the people of Eldo’s and other communities in South Africa to call on God for deliverance. There are no lines between black, white, pink, rich, poor, Hindu or Muslim when it comes to drug addiction. This is an attack from Satan. The church leaders of this country need to call a week of fasting and prayer and cry out to God and not the president to deliver them from this demonic force that is trying to destroy our communities. The Bible says that God’s people need to repent their sins and cry out to Him and He will heal the land. No president or even a rehabilitation centre can help, only God can deliver you.

Churches, stop with your programmes and whatever you are busy with and start looking after God’s people for your have been appointed shepherds over His people. People of South Africa, let us unite as one people for where there is unity God commands a blessing. Let us stop running after programmes to heal our communities, but let us run to God because to men our situation may look impossible, but for God nothing is impossible. Believe me, I have travelled that road and I am a living testimony. My test became a testimony that only God heals, for His promise to us is life, not death. The devil on the other hand came to steal, kill and to destroy. Call on Him and He will answer you and show you His greatness. Amen.

Congratulations for successful conference FEZILE SONKWANE, Free State YCL spokesperson: THE YCLSA in the Free State wishes to congratulate the ANC for a peaceful and united provincial conference hosted from 3 to 5 May at the Phakisa Race Way in Welkom. The YCLSA is excited that a newly elected provincial executive committee is now combat ready to deliver not only to the ANC branches, but to the overall masses of people who look up to the ANC for leadership and guidance.

The YCLSA congratulates delegates for their fruitful engagements and resolutions and encourages those who might have held a different view or preference on leadership that they now work hard with the newly elected leadership and accept the views of the majority. The ANC in the Free State needs to now shift its focus from internal factional encounters and kick-start a radical and massive election campaign towards the 2014 general elections. The people of the Free State still have hope in their ANC-led government and the ANC should not fail to meet their aspirations. The YCLSA calls for local government structures to deliver basic services for their impoverished communities. The YCL in the Free State commits itself to garner all young people in the province to vote for the ANC as have been done before. This will be done through a vigorous youth election campaign. The YCLSA also congratulates Seadimo Tlale, a Free Stater of note, for being the finalist of the second season of One Day Leader which has been aired on SABC television for the past few months. The organisation is proud of her and encourages the youth to follow in her steps. This indicates that there is no deficit of leadership or leaders in the Free State. It is important to note that the YCLSA Free State membership contributed to her success through the many votes it had cast for her.

Athletes fed up with state of track } Anton Mostert FOR the past year and a half the Xhariep District has produced South African champions on the athletics field. In 2012, eight athletes from the Xhariep District, six of whom were from Trompsburg, participated in the South African School’s Cross-country Championships. Three of the Trompsburg athletes came back with medals, one gold and two silver. In March, four athletes from Trompsburg went to the South African Schools Athletic Championships in East London. They came back with two gold, one silver and one bronze medal. Blandina Makatisi, who won the two gold medals, also broke the South African record in the 5 000 m for junior girls in a time of 17:12. These athletes, despite their success, train in very difficult conditions. After numerous requests to the municipality of Kopanong to close off the athletics track where these athletes are training nothing has been done. After three years the track is now in an even worse condition than it was in when the athletes started training. Driving schools are using the track to

practise their driving and when the athletes confront them and ask them to practise elsewhere they are sworn and cursed at. Sometimes while the athletes are training cars also drive on the track, cattle graze on the field and walk over the track leaving behind deep marks on the track which is obviously dangerous for running athletes. The athletes are very frustrated at the moment and out of desperation they went and placed big rocks, stones and pipes all over the track to stop the cars from driving there. At least while they are training for the cross-country season it is working. Under these conditions the athletes would like to know where the money allocated to sports development is going. Why is it so difficult to fence off the athletics track in Trompsburg and scrape it every three months? Athletics is the only sports code achieving at this moment in the Xhariep District, so why are our athletes not getting any support? Because Xhariep is generally a poor area, these questions are not only for the municipality but also for the Free State provincial government. ) Mostert is a pastor and a volunteer athletics coach in Trompsburg.

Bahá’ís celebrate anniversary } Flora Teckie 23 MAY is a special day for the members of the Bahá’í Faith in Mangaung, as in thousands of other places throughout the world. They will be celebrating the 169th anniversary of the beginning of their faith on that day. The Bahá’í Faith began in Persia in 1844 when a young man, known as the Báb, announced that He was a messenger of God, whose special mission was to prepare the people for the coming of

Bahá’u’lláh, the one spoken of in the previous Holy Books, who would establish an era of righteousness and peace on earth. The Bahá’í communities all over South Africa are preparing befitting gatherings to celebrate the anniversary of the beginning of their faith. Founded just over a century and a half ago, the Baha’i faith has become the world’s second most widespread religion, with members in 235 countries and dependent territories (according to Encyclopaedia Britannica) and

‘The Writings of the Bahá’í Faith offer spiritual guidance as well as directives for personal and social conduct and provides solution to the problems confronting humanity today.’ is among the fastest growing world religions. The writings of the Bahá’í

faith offer spiritual guidance as well as directives for personal and social conduct and provides solutions to the problems confronting humanity today. They are designed to reshape the divisive society of the present world and usher in an era of universal peace. It is the Bahá’í view that with unity – a unity that welcomes and honours the full diversity of mankind – the problems which face humanity today, can be solved. As Bahá’u’lláh says: “The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless

and until its unity is firmly established”. At the present time the Bahá’í community of Mangaung, as well as the Bahá’ís in other parts of the world are engaged on a path of action that promotes the spiritual development of the individual and channels the collective energies of its members towards the spiritual transformation of society. The Baha’i community welcomes everyone to join hands with them in building a better society and creating a peaceful and prosperous world civilization.

Bafana Bafana ready for CAR } Sidwell Guduka THE Bafana Bafana head coach, Gordon Igesund, has announced a 25-man squad to face the Central African Republic (CAR) and Ethiopia next month in 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifying matches. South Africa resumes the Road to Brazil-campaign with a crunch match against CAR at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on 8 June at 15:00. Their second match against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa is pencilled for 16 June (kick-off at 15:00). “These are two very important matches for us, and even though we are missing a few players through injuries or loss of form, things are looking very positive. The players I have selected for these matches are highly technical and ready for the challenge. They also know what is at stake. I am quite confident that we will pull through,” Igesund said confidently. “These are huge encounters for us, and as for the CAR match, the most important thing is that we must not lose this game. If we don’t win then we need to have a draw so we can stay in the race because we still have to meet and hopefully beat Ethiopia the following week who are top of the group with two points ahead.” The Bafana Bafana mentor believes that even though playing away, he will have to stick to his

offensive strategy in order to get positive results. “We beat CAR convincingly in Cape Town in March, and we want to continue with our attacking game like we did back then and I believe playing in a neutral venue will help in that regard. We have to be offensive if we want to get something out of the match against CAR or we will be putting ourselves in a very tight corner,” he said. “The following week will be key against Ethiopia, of course, depending on how they would have played against Botswana,” he added. Igesund has made seven changes to the squad that played against CAR earlier this year. Morgan Gould, Siyabonga Sangweni, Siyanda Xulu, Thabo Matlaba and Dino Ndlovu are all out injured, while Daylon Claasen and Lerato Chabangu have been left out. Richard Henyekane makes a return after a long lay-off and is joined in the squad by Thandani Ntshumayelo, Tlou Segolela and Katlego Mashego. Also called up to the squad are Tsepo Masilela, Tefo Mashamaite, Siboniso Gaxa and Bevan Fransman. The players will report for cam in Johannesburg on 29 May, before departing for Cameroon on 4 June. Full squad list: Goalkeepers: Itumeleng Khune, Wayne Sandilands, Senzo Meyiwa.
