Makholokoeng receives new modular unit
} Tladi Moloi
THE community of the Makholokoeng Village near Harrismith in the Free State has benefited from the generous donation of a state-of-the-art modular library to the value of R600 000 from Metrofile CSX. Learners here were struggling and had nowhere to do their homework and research. According to Mamie Moloi (15), a gr. 10 learner of the Kgethatsebo Secondary School, they sometimes found themselves walking home late at night after they had to queue for internet access at school. However, this problem is now a thing of the past after a modular library was presented to the school on Friday by Dan Khothule, the MEC for the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation. Moloi said she was happy that a new library had been donated to Makgolokweng. She said the library would help them a lot. “I really don’t know how to thank our government and the CSX management. The library came at the right time when we needed it the most. Modern education requires a lot of research and hopefully this time we’ll be able to get things right. It was very tough before as we had to mind the time while at the library which was also far from home,” she said. Graham Wackrill, the chief executive officer of Metrofile CSX, said it was a privilege for them to be part of such a success story for young people to enrich them through education. He said as a company it was not often that they had the chance to participate in such a meaningful initiative were the benefits were so clearly visible. “The only thing that is going to improve this country is children and education,” he said. He asked the learners to focus on education. “At least now I’ll be able to go home after school and work on my homework at the new library which is clos-

Khothule said he had reiterated in his budget speech for 2013 that they were repositioning the libraries to serve as a bridge to the world of digital media and to ensure that everybody, regardless of economic status, would have access to resources in a
variety of formats and platforms. “Since 2007 we have been rolling out a programme to provide every public library with computer equipment and connectivity. “Today we are proud to say all 82 towns in the Free State are connected digitally via the local libraries.
“We’ll provide free access to the internet to every library user,” he said. Khothule said a presidential visit to Diyatalawa and Makholokweng on 4 October 2011 identified a dire need for a library in the area. He said the security company CSX had come up with a solution.
“I am humbled by what the company has done for our young generation. “We know some of the businesses will never invest in a community as they are always looking to make a profit, but CSX proved to be a different kind of company,” he said.

Hard work, team effort awarded } Tladi Moloi THE Golden Gate Highlands National Park was the big winner during the recent 2013 South African National Parks (SANParks) Northern Regional Awards. It was presented with a Park of the Year and the Entrance Gate/Reception of the Year Award on Thursday night at the awards ceremony that took place in the Golden Gate Hotel. Initially there were three parks that competed in the awards. They were Golden Gate, Mapungubwe and Marakele. Nine of the Golden Gate employees also won awards in the individual categories. Agnes Motaung, Mosia Matotoba, Mohau Ncubuka, Joseph Putsoane and Joseph Rantseke were awarded with outstanding service in the workplace awards. Aleta Limakatso Mofokeng scooped an award for outstanding customer service. The Research and Initiatives Award was presented to Yolandy Mouton with Victor Mokoena earning the Best Mentor Award before Moses Phohlo Mofokeng completed the day for the Golden Gate team when he received the Regional Manager Award. Nomvuselelo Songelwa, the managing executive: Parks Division, urged the employees to keep on shining because they were the stars of SANParks. She said they always said they had wanted to take the organisation to the best level and added that SANParks was a leading conservation agency in the world. Songelwa said the awards were aimed at honouring and recognising the performance of their colleagues in the northern region. “Often when people are sitting at head office it is difficult to know each and everyone and to appreciate the hard work that is being done,” she said. The atmosphere was incredible during the awards. The Golden Gate employees went to the stage singing to receive the Park of the Year Award which they believed was theirs as a result of team effort. Zuma’s conduct ‘deplorable’ – Botha } Reporter “BY using his meeting with visiting Pres. Barack Obama as an occasion to say that former Pres. Nelson Mandela had often told him that he was satisfied and even positive with the way Zuma and the ANC were ruling the country, the president insulted Obama, the South African nation and even Mandela himself,” says Christian Democratic Party (CDP) leader, Rev. Theunis Botha. Botha says Obama is on an official visit, representing the American people, not only the Democratic Party. He says the least one could have expected of our president, when meeting with Obama, was to rise above party politics and for once be a statesman representing all South Africans. “For Zuma to use the critically-ill Man-
dela for cheap politicking is deplorable, and is in any case devoid of credibility. “After all, a year ago Emeritus Archbishop Desmond Tutu said: ‘Had Madiba been fully aware of what is going on around him, he would have been very sad’. “At the latest graduation ceremony of the University of the Free State, the chancellor, Dr Khotso Mokhele, urged the students to use their freedom of speech to speak out about the deterioration we are observing all around us,” he says. He says Zuma knows well that he can now attribute anything he wishes to Mandela, and that it cannot be challenged. “Making these claims does a disservice to the Mandela legacy which is recognised by people all over the world. “Zuma must also not insult Obama by trying to ‘use’ him as an election tool,” Botha concludes.

There is ability in disability – Moloi } Tladi Moloi MAHLOLA MOLOI (41), who hails from the Naledi Section in Bohlokong, Bethlehem, won an award in the category Most Active Disabled Individual Group from the Dihlabeng Municipality during their recent community awards ceremony. In December 2010 this intelligent and outspoken Sesotho poet won the same award. Moloi is a well-known poet who can move a crowd when performing the traditional poem Mokorotlo. “I was happy to win the award. It simply means I have to work harder. An award means a lot to one, and one should be proud to be called onto the stage to receive it. Some people have never had the chance to win a trophy in a competition,” he said. Moloi who originally hails from Fateng tse Ntsho in Paul Roux, said they had relocated to Bohlokong, Bethlehem, in 1985. He said he would like to extend his gratitude towards the municipality who through the years had opened doors for the disabled. “They don’t just ignore us, but they have made us feel welcome in their offices,” he said. However, that was nothing new for this brave man who had done this before with the likes of Ace Magashule, the premier of the Free State, and other mayors in the local municipality. “It was a great honour for me to be given this opportunity to introduce and shake hands with the president. It has always been my wish to do this and it finally happened,” he said. He said he had passion for his culture which he would love to share with learners in schools. Moloi said he had managed to interest some of the schools and he was looking forward to add more. “I have achieved a lot in my life and I am a living testimony that there is ability is disability. The disabled people should wake up and turn the world around because nothing is impossible,” he said. Moloi said he had become disabled in 1980 after he had twisted his leg. He said since then he had never given up on life, but kept on pushing. “God knew what would happen to me and he also had a reason why it happened,” he said. He said he was looking forward to releasing his Sesotho album which he was now working on.

She said she had decided to live on the streets after problems in the family resulting in her dropping out of school at primary school level. When telling her story in the Tiisetsang High School hall, where the event was held, Mofokeng started by saying: “Ke moja” which translates as I’m fine. “I was using clue. I stopped going to school and became a street kid when I was 13 years old and were on the streets for 8 years.” Child Welfare took her to a rehabilitation centre in Pretoria and she said she was not using drugs anymore. “I want to encourage our younger generation to stay away from drugs. I have been there and I know how hard it is. You should respect your parents because life on the streets is not good, especially for girls,” she said. The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking was celebrated worldwide and the event in Bethlehem was organised by the Free State Department of Social Development. Event helps empower youth } Express Eastern Free State Reporter THE Salvation Church In Christ in Bethlehem recently held a Spiritual Turn-Around Strategy at the Catula Crèche in Bohlokong, Bethlehem. The church also celebrated Father’s Day and Youth Day on the day. The purpose of the Spiritual Turn-Around Strategy programme was aimed at empowering the youth of a democratic country free from the slavery of drugs and alcohol. It was also aimed at empowering parents to protect and to take care of their families and communities. During the celebration, the church also offered a helping hand to Mpho Mosia and the Bohlokong Hospice. The hospice is located in Foggelfontein. They handed over a Bible to Mosia before do-
nating clothes to the hospice. Abraham Radebe, the founder and a senior pastor of the church, said Mosia was an exprisoner from Bohlokong, Bethlehem, who had received Jesus Christ as his personal saviour in prison. “I met with him while he was doing community services and he reminded me of the day I preached to them in prison during the breaking the circle of crime event. He then told me that he would visit the church and he did. “I was very happy when he asked for forgiveness from his mother and the community members for his deeds,” he said. Radebe said Mpho has declared that he was willing to empower the youth on what he had learned and added that Mpho discouraged the youth from using drugs and committing crime.

It’s freedom of expression; I call it ultimate operating system of Windows 20th century, motherboard Pentium VII. My beloved generation, knowledge is power, skills being the motive beyond measures indeed. It’s the unity of 1976. Freedom of expression, come generation, speak your mind of maturity, express the wisdom of God so gentle day by day. Generation of magnificent thoughts and ideas, the earth belongs to our integrity that lies proudly to our forefather’s lessons and essays of our beloved mothers. Come generation, we born to manifest the glory of the Lord by his grace, by so doing, we cordially let others to perceive and be fulfilled by tunes of achievements. My beloved generation, yesterday I was active so today I have to act, because tomorrow my actions will articulate volume by success. We so compassionate, why do we belong to wicked characters?
Were we born for such talent? What happened to our mentality? Come generation, who are we going to be, by demolishing our forefather’s treasures of peace? They came, now they are gone but never forgotten. Days were born, gave birth to weeks and later months were then named grandchildren, eventually centuries develop gradually. Generation X and Y-I means me and you. What is it that is going to make us proud when we depart this terrain? Come generation, kneel before spirits of thankfulness, for numberless blessings given, blessings that daily come to us like dewdrops falling from heaven. PATRIOTS, it is more important to understand the Asian giants’ role in our mother continent. Two of the Asian rivals, which are China and Japan, have held their summit in partnership with our continent. The most important thing is that both are historically and currently in disagreement. The Chinese people were ruled by the Japanese fascists movement in earlier times and that feudal system disadvantaged the Chinese people even before the revolution.
The clash of the nationalists and communists. Their dispute over the island in previous years continues with a suspicious peace settlement. The motor industry is championed by Japan on our continent and technology is monopolised by China. Japan has realised the threat of the trade monopoly of Beijing and its allied United States foreign policy was weakened in other parts of Africa. South Africa is compromising between two rivals as the head of state was also lobbied by Tokyo’s big bosses to pave their way through the African Union’s accessible doors.
Obviously the Chinese Intelligence is ruling all undercover operations and scientific methods of their enemies globally and are very aware of the dynamics of trade in the oceans surrounding Africa. Could Japan be lobbied by the United States to eliminate Beijing’s gateway to success? This is for young people to understand as they are excited about technological advancement. They should know that for the two-nation states and civilisation state, technology is the other stage of their political contest to create ties with other African states. Let’s follow up on the two Asian giants towards Africa.
is no exception. As it is the case across much of Africa. Sport is played and supported with great enthusiasm. South Africa hosts different sporting tournaments where elite athletes are showcased. We seek to explore how to use sport as a vehicle for social development, keeping youth away from illegal activities, while developing sporting and life skills. The Dihlabeng Youth Forum (DYF) has intended to partner with different stakeholders on how to find out more about the programmes that can reduce youth violence and teenage pregnancy in our townships. The DYF also intends to utilise strategic partnerships with worldwide organisations to help in making a positive difference in young people’s lives through sport. It remains clear that the DYF’s goal is to identify the individuals who are committed to the belief that sport play an important and positive role
in the physical, emotional and social development of the young people. The DYF believes that sports activities have immense value and can be the ultimate outdoor classroom for some of life’s greatest lessons and the individuals will have a united and powerful voice in making that visions become a reality. Children and young people are a vital resource for the future, but they need care and guidance to live up to their potential – things that can be hard to find in an uncertain environment. Surrounded by negative peer pressure and lack of opportunities, it can become so easy for them to lose hope and get involved in harmful activities. My belief is that sport is a catalyst for accelerating development, strengthening communities, uniting people along racial barriers and driving social change. As the DYF, we will continue to build and develop our children and youth so that they can excel and have a better future.
Sport teaches important life skills MOSIKILI DIPHAPANG, secretary of the Dihlabeng Youth Forum: “SPORT truly is the outdoor classroom of life because it gives children the opportunity to learn many important values that they will carry with them throughout their life.” That is according to Fred Engh, the founder and president of the National Alliance for Youth Sport (NAYS). He further said all young men and women, regardless of the environment they’re living in or the adversities they’re facing, should love to play sport and added that they (NAYS) had a responsibility to help every single one of them to experience the true power of sport. In South African townships, where there are high levels of violence and crime and teenage pregnancy, young people can easily be enticed to join gangs and get involved in crime. Nomandela could move THE Free State Stars midfielder Luyolo Nomandela has changed his tune and now says he is ready to leave the club in pursuit of greener pastures up north. The 23-year-old player told KickOff.com three months ago that he was not looking at the money and wanted to focus on his career in the Free State, but now says he is “ready to play for Chiefs or Pirates”. “I understand Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are interested in my services and my agent is handling the issue. “I am ready to move to play for either club if the situation demands it, but, if not, I am still happy to continue playing for Free State Stars next season.” Stars have already lost both Kennedy Mweene and Dove Wome to Mamelodi Sundowns, but Nomandela says his heart is with Chiefs. “I grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs.I like their style of playing and think it would suit me very well. I also like the fact that they don’t have many players. “However, I wouldn’t mind playing for Pirates either, because that is also one of the biggest teams in the country.” – KickOff.com

} Tladi Moloi BETHLEHEM might find itself without a team in the Safa Second Division as it is set to lose Super Eagles which is for sale and rumours are it has a R300 000 price tag. A close source to the team revealed to Express Eastern Free State that the owner of the team, Strike Mabasa, had lost interest in running the team and he was looking for a potential buyer. The Eagles have been campaigning in the Free State Safa Second Division, formerly the Vodacom League, since 2009. The team has been moving from owner to owner since its inception. It has come to Express EFS’s attention that before the team was bought by Mabasa, it was formed in Bethlehem, but later relocated to Clarens after it had been bought by a businessman from Clarens – now the owner of Clarens Galaxy. This past season the team finished in 5th position with 46 points in 28 games. They were contesting for the league as they had a chance to stay on the top of the league for quite some time, but they lost focus when it mattered the most. Express EFS has heard of many people who are willing to buy the team. If they’re lucky the team might stay in Bethlehem as the Free State Stars management is looking forward to having a team in the Second Division after their sister team, Carara Kicks, was liquidated in the 2011-’12 season. The team might also be sold to a businessman in Lindley and Molefi Sithole, one of the members, said they had negotiated with the
team management and added that they were finalising some issues before buying the team. “It has always been our wish to have a professional team from Lindley and we believe now is the chance to have one,” he said. Mabasa confirmed that he was selling the team stating financial problems as the main reason. He said if he could not get a buyer he would continue with the team, but on a smaller budget. “It has been challenging to run the team alone. One must make sure that players are transported to the game, get food and pay them. We targeted promotion last season, but things did not go according to plan. If I don’t get a buyer, I’ll continue with the team, but I’ll try and survive,” he said. Mabasa said he had undergone negotiations with several people who wanted to buy the team, but not all got back to him. He said some were from Botswana. Another rumour doing the rounds was that the Eagles’ managing director was eyeing the National First Division (NFD) campaigners, African Warriors, to buy it. However, Mabasa has rubbished the Warriors rumour and said that he knew nothing about it.
