Mzansi loses soccer star Shot dead by robbers at girlfriend’s house

} Sidwell Guduka THE South African soccer fraternity was left dumbfounded when they heard about the untimely death of Senzo Meyiwa. Meyiwa (27), the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalminder, was fatally shot when two thugs entered Kelly Khumalo’s house in Vosloorus, East Rand, on Sunday night. It is reported that the two robbers demanded cellphones, money and valuables before Meyiwa was shot in the back, trying to protect Khumalo – because one of the men allegedly had a gun pointed at her. A third man waited outside the house and all three fled immediately after the shooting. “This is a sad loss whichever way you look at it – to Senzo’s family, to his extended family, to Orlando Pirates and to the nation,” Dr Irvin Khoza, Orlando Pirates chairman, commented. Dr Danny Jordaan, Safa president, meanwhile, said he was shocked and devastated by the tragic death of Meyiwa. “He was an integral part of the revolution of our beloved national team under Shakes Mashaba. For him to leave us like this is shocking. “As an association we had expected so much from him, the nation had pinned their hopes on him following brilliant displays in the Bafana Bafana jersey, more so in the recent Afcon matches where he kept a clean sheet in all four games. We will surely miss him,” Jordaan said. “At this time our thoughts are with his family, his club Orlando Pirates, the football family in general. Shakes Mashaba was going to announce his squad to face Sudan and Nigeria tomorrow, and I would like to believe Senzo’s name would have been the first, because he has been a pillar of strength Bafana Bafana in the recent matches, making incredible saves to keep the team in the match. May his soul rest in peace,” Jordaan added. Meyiwa was born in Umlazi outside Durban. He joined Orlando Pirates in 2002,

but only made his professional debut in 2005. At the time of his untimely death, he had represented the Sea Robbers 73 times. He played his last match for the Soweto giants when his club defeated Ajax Cape Town 4-1 in the Telkom Knockout on Saturday, just a day before he was killed. Meyiwa was nearing the peak of his career and he had recently captained Bafana in all four of their 2015 African Cup of Nations qualification fixtures. He did not concede a goal during those matches. Meyiwa, who was born in KwaZulu-Natal was never far from the headlines – for the

wrong reasons. Tales of abondoning his wife, Mandisa, to go and stay with Khumalo did the rounds with some going as far as describing Khumalo as a “homewrecker”, but the shot-stopper later went back to his wife who forgave him for having an affair with the Afro-pop singer. Khumalo has a child with Meyiwa, and she also shares a child with hip-hop singer Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye. Maarohanye was found guilty of murder for killing four schoolboys while dragracing down a Soweto street while high on drugs. This was later converted to culpable homicide.

Student adjusting to life in China } Sidwell Guduka A YEAR ago, when she was writing her final matric exams around this time at the Strydom Secondary School in Thaba Nchu, she had not heard of the Jiangxi Province in China. Today Zukiswa Tebe is staying in Nanchang, the capital of the Jiangxi Province, in Southeastern China. The 18-year-old has enrolled at the Nanchang University Medical College where she is furthering her studies. She is one of more than 230 students who had been sent to China by the Free State Provincial Government to study medicine, engineering, agriculture, accounting, financial management and information technology. Some of those students are studying at the Wuyi University in Wuyishan, Nanping county in the Fujian Province, as well as the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University in Jinshan, Fuzhou, in the Fujian Province. “I have settled in well. It feels longer than the seven months that I’ve been here,” Zukiswa told Express during a telephonic interview. “Honestly, I’m starting to enjoy life in China. Nanchang is my second home,” she said. “Chinese people are the nicest people I have ever met, I must say. They are very friendly and humble. They like sharing and smiling, and they make us feel at home. They never really make us feel like foreigners in their country. I’m really blessed to be staying and studying in this part of the world,” she added. Being from South Africa where SETTLED IN: Zukiswa Tebe from Thaba Nchu, east of Bloemfontein, is enjoying life in China. the official language is English, Photo: Mpho Lencwe Zukiswa was quite aware that it was

Mandarin is the most prominently spoken language in Nanchang, but the universities in China have overcome this by teaching in English. “The Chinese language is a bit of a problem at the moment, but we are coping well. “It is compulsory for foreigners to study Chinese during their first year at the university in China. “There are plenty of Chinese students who are willing to help us foreigners to learn their language faster. “I have befriended a few, and that has helped me a great deal in terms of understanding the Chinese language,” said the Free Stater. “Chinese is one of the most difficult languages worldwide. I used to struggle a lot when I had to go to the shops to buy something. “But I later realised that I only needed to know a few basic sentences that Chinese people use in their daily lives.” Zukiswa added that the only word she had learnt when she arrived in Nanchang was ni hao, which means “hello” in Mandarin Chinese. “That is the very first word I mastered

when I first came to China. But I have since learnt tons of other Chinese words,” she said. Starting from September next year, Zukiswa will be commencing her medical studies at the same university where she is currently studying. “By the time I finish my studies, I think I shall be fluent enough in Mandarin.” It is an open secret that there are only a few blacks in China, and this is one of the first things that Zukiswa discovered when she landed in Asia. “Chinese people here are not used to randomly seeing a black person around. When we got here, it was difficult for me to get used to being stared at. But I’m used to that now,” she said laughing. The down-to-earth ambassador, who will only be coming back to South Africa upon finishing her medical studies in 2020, revealed that she sometimes becomes homesick. “The feeling of missing home comes and goes. I don’t really let myself miss my family too much. I try to focus on my studies as much as possible.” Asked about whether she liked the kind of food she ate in China, Zukiswa said: “The food is just okay. We eat a lot of different meats like beef and octopus meat. “What I miss the most about home is porridge because I always have rice here. It is boring to always eat rice but I will get used to it.” This ambitious young woman said she was thankful to the Free State Government for offering her this once in a lifetime opportunity to further her studies abroad. “From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank them for giving me and other students this wonderful opportunity. “We promise to make the most of it and shine as bright as ever,” concluded Zukiswa. ) For more stories, visit www.expressnews.co.za.

Shooting in tavern investigated

Prof. Kintu

Made my enemies come and confess to me… Several years of unhappiness in my marriage lead to loneliness and continued crying. After hearing testimonials about Professor Kintu on the radio, in newspapers and my old friend's son he had saved from drugs and alcohol abuse, I decided to visit him . For only R100 Professor Kinthu read my fortune accurately and told me about my past life and my marriage. In a dish of water with a mirror he showed me the face of my enemies as well as my husband's girlfriend. He performed a special prayer and gave me powerful love crystals - a special one to use at my workplace and for my business success. Unbelievable! In one week my enemies approached me and confessed bad things they did to us and my husband left his girlfriend and came back to me. Over the years I tried healers and priests but they all failed. Professor Kintu, there's no other way to say thank you but to tell others about you.

} Sidwell Guduka ONE MINUTE patrons were drinking and the next they were running for cover as bullets flew through the air. Two people were shot dead and a third was injured when three gunmen shot randomly at a group of people drinking at a tavern in Khayelitsha Section near Bloemfontein on Sunday. Cops are working around the clock to bring the perpetrators to book. They are also asking for Teboho Matsepe (picture) to come forward for questioning. “The incident happened on Sunday at about 02:00. It is alleged that three unknown suspects went inside a tavern and started shoot-

ing randomly,” Const. Maselela Langa told Express. “Three people were shot and two of them were fatally wounded. The first one died at the scene and the second died in hospital.” Langa said the suspects were driving a white Toyota Corolla, affectionately known as a Kentucky Rounder, which was used to transport staff of different companies in Bloemfontein. “It is believed that the driver is based in Bloemfontein,” Langa said. Anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects should contact the investigating officer, Det. Const. Tsietsi Thulo of the Bloemspruit police station, on 082-854-7532 or 051-503-4060.

Suspect in murder of lecturer behind bars } Teboho Setena THE alleged murder suspect of the University of Free State (UFS) lecturer and PhD student Lehlohonolo Mathengtheng will reappear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 3 November for his bail application. The 18-year-old suspect, Khethang Abednego Ramolula, who remains in custody, appeared in court last Tuesday, three days after his arrest, in Botshabelo, east of Bloemfontein. He was busted by the police crime intelligence unit and tactical response team following an in-depth investigation.

Ramolula is facing a charge of allegedly murdering Mathengtheng on 26 September at a complex in Willows, Bloemfontein. The 27-year-old Mathengtheng was found with his throat slit in the flat he stayed in. A bloodied knife suspected to have been the murder weapon, a used condom and two mobile phones were found in the apartment. The deceased’s vehicle was found abandoned under a bridge within the Mangaung Metro vicinity. A laptop and Blackberry phone belonging to the deceased were missing. Mathengtheng was an industrious student and activily participated in activities

involving medical students at the UFS. In July 2013 he received an award at an international PhD congress hosted in Austria. The congress was hosted by the Young Scientist Association (YSA) at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. Mathengtheng published many research articles in national and international journals, and also received a number of awards for his research. In December 2012 he was appointed as a junior lecturer and medical scientist in the department. Meanwhile, the police in Qwaqwa are on the trail of the murderer(s) of another UFS

student, the 22-year-old Sinethemba Shezi. He was a third-year education student at the Qwaqwa campus of the UFS. The deceased and a friend were allegedly attacked by eight people carrying iron rods on the way to the campus two weeks ago. Shezi and his companion ran in opposite directions to avoid the attackers. Following the attack, Shezi was found dead two days later in the vicinity of Elands River in Phuthaditjhaba with severe head injury. The deceased’s body was spotted by a passer-by. According to the police, a blunt object was used to kill Shezi who originated from Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal.

Wind rips roofs off } Tladi Moloi BETHLEHEM. – A strong wind storm that only lasted around 15 minutes left over hundred families in Bohlokong, Bethlehem, without roofs and caused extensive damage to residential properties last Tuesday night. The wind started blowing around 18:45 and ripped the roofs off many houses. The areas which were most affected, were Giyane, Old Location and Loso. The overhanging electricity cables were torn down in Giyani, while some cables had torn off roof panels hanging from them. Despite the damage to property, no injuries or deaths were reported. Eskom employees attended to the cable damage quickly and the electricity supply was restored during the evening. Monimoni Maduna (32) from Extension 2 said they were watching television when a strong wind started blowing and they could feel from inside the house that the roof was being torn off. “Suddenly the wind stopped and we went outside to look for the corrugated iron roof sheets. They were lying at another house. The roof sheets of the back bedroom and a garage were torn off. The neighbours came and helped me fetch the sheets and put a tarpaulin over the roof,” he said. Tshediso Maitse from the market-

He said the wards mostly affected were 2, 3 ,4, 8, 11, 16 and 19. “All in all, well over 100 houses and other dwellings, the majority of which are owned by the indigent residents, were damaged, with roofs

having been blown away,” he said. Maitse said a team supported by council members was on the ground assessing the situation, having already visited every affected household. “The damage in monetary terms has not been quantified at this stage. Each intervention measure will be based on merit.” The task team will report back and the municipality will decide on a more permanent remedy. “As the municipality, we would like to make a heart-felt appeal to everybody who can, to please come forward and lend a helping hand. Any form of assistance is welcomed and will be highly appreciated.”

Are you Drowning

Workers need houses THE South African government has an estimated 1,5 million employees on its payroll. This includes both national and provincial governments. Addressing parliament in 2012, the former Finance minister, Pravin Gordhan, said: “There has been an additional 250 000 public servants included on the government payroll since 2005.” Statistically, government is the largest employer in South Africa and accounts for an estimated 22,6% of the workforce. Of the total government employees, 1,2 million are at non-management, service level and a total of 13% of public servants have emolument attachment (garnishee) orders against their monthly salaries. Based on the above statistics, it is becoming increasingly difficult for public servants to secure home loans from leading financial institutions. Public servants are often caught in the paradoxical catch-22 situation. By virtue of being on government payroll, they don’t qualify for RDP houses that government dispenses to citizens who earn less than R3 000 per month. As if that is not enough, public servants are not allowed to enter into business transactions with government to supplement their miniscule salaries. This leaves many of them with stress-related ailments which affect their job performance. Suffice it to say that most public servants are continuously more preoccupied with servicing their debts than learning the eight Batho Pele principles by heart. Regrettably, the majority of employees who are supposed to provide professional services to the public, do not have houses of their own. Public servants who fall within the level-8 income bracket either stay in rented flats or someone else’s backyard. The predicament that these government employees face, leads them to a myriad of

My view

Garnishee orders deducted from your pay? We can stop it

Lehlohonolo Nyetanyane Social observer detrimental coping mechanisms such as absenteeism, rendering poor service, alcoholism and looting from the public purse. In cases where employee satisfaction levels are too low, government runs the risk of being sabotaged by its own employees. In light of this medley of factors, it is therefore my view that government should appoint a reputable financial institution that will provide home finance specifically for public servants. This should be a one-stop institution where home finance is guaranteed for anyone who is on government payroll, irrespective of their salary level. This would mean that whoever takes a bond will have a roof over their head and be able to pay it off at an amount proportionate to their monthly income. Those that are already heavily indebted, should be indemnified and be placed under an itinerary bond payment process that will benefit both parties. As much as government keeps on bailing out Eskom and South African Airways with billions, it’s about time it invested in its human capital. Government should make an effort to raise employee satisfaction within its ranks, providing decent and affordable housing for its employees is the best option. After all, the 1955 Freedom Charter adopted by die ANC declared: “There shall be houses, security and comfort for all”.

Complex offers safety in style CRESTONE HILLS is situated in the upper northern part of Bloemfontein, on the way to the Botanical Gardens. It is a well-known, secure complex with 24 hour CCTV surveillance, as well as a fully fenced private garden with an established lawn. Residents have a choice between three- or four-bedroom units with spacious bathrooms and plenty of cupboard space. What makes this complex different from many others in the area, is the magnificent view from all the bedrooms. Every unit has been positioned consecutively to have a spectacular view, especially from the top floor. Crestone Hills is one of Lenova Construction and Development’s proud creations. With the modern, spacious interior design it provides the client with an innovative, but inviting atmosphere. The open-plan area is equipped with a gas fire place for those long, cosy winter nights. An exceptionally stylish

stainless steel balustrade indoor staircase further compliments the interior of the house alongside the granite tops in the kitchen and the spacious cupboards. The interior amalgamates very well with the garden area, done by a professional landscaping artist, so residents do not have to worry about creating a garden. Residents even have the benefit of a communal constructed play area for their children. Crestone Hills is an ideal family-orientated complex, but also offers the single or childless couple comfort and security. The 80 units at Crestone Hills provide residents with that communal feeling, enhancing residents’ feeling that they belong somewhere and become a part of a neighbourhood. This is not just another empty complex where residents feel deserted and alone. Crestone Hills will make you feel safe, secure and part of a community. Come and view the units – you will not be disappointed. Do not miss out.

AFTER 8YEARS OF SUFFERING "WE FINALLY GOT HELP" I have been happily married for 25 years with 3 beautiful kids but the last 8years have been a mayhem between us. My husband had a successful business that started collapsing, he begun drinking and started coming back late & hence we started fighting and eventually we Belinda & husband DIVORCED. As a caring wife/mother I (happily in love again) decided to fight to have my family back TOGETHER. I had started giving up after failing to get help from priests, gurus & healers i visited. I had lost hope but a friend of mine introduced me to Baba Mangu who had saved his son from going to prison so i decided to try ONE more time. I paid only R200 for consultation and she foretold me all my problems & used water to show me my enemy's.SHE gave me a magical ring, cleansed me from bad luck, did some special prayers & after 7days i FINALLY got what i had been waiting for the last 8years.My husband & children are back and we are HAPPILY MARRIED again.

Bail denied: Suspects linked to other crimes

ALL SUPPLIERS SEEKING REGISTRATION AS APPROVED SUPPLIER ON THE FREE STATE CENTRALISED DATABASE The Free State Provincial Government wishes to update its database of suppliers of goods and services.

} Teboho Setena SIX would-be armed robbers remain behind bars after being denied bail on appearance in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court last Monday. The state turned down the bail applications because the men were allegedly linked to other violent crimes committed in Gauteng and Welkom. The suspects are Jackie Janson (42), Farouk Meyer (39), Gerdine Meyer (26), Romano Simons (26), Imran Bhaudia (43) and Pieter van der Berg (44). They were arrested earlier this month at about 18:00 after a foiled armed robbery at a shopping complex in Welkom. Five of the suspects were caught red-handed at the complex by a joint task force team, comprising members of the police of the Welkom Tactical Response Team, Thabong Cluster Task Team and Crime Prevention. The sixth suspect was arrested later following intensive investigation. The men face charges of attempted murder and robbery. Const. Kethabile Mofokeng, spokesperson of the Welkom police, said the suspects were allegedly linked to armed robberies in Komatipoort and Fairland in Gauteng and the assault of a police officer in Bronville, Welkom. She said five suspected robbers had been overpowered at the shopping complex in Welkom’s central business district after an exchange of fire with members of the police’s joint task force. She said in the process they had tried to flee the scene in a getaway vehicle which was cornered before it could go anywhere. Mofokeng said another getaway car which one of the suspected robbers had fled in had later been found abandoned at Manny’s Shopping in Welkom. She said upon the arrest police members had found two firearms, a Taurus 9 mm pistol with four live rounds and a 7.65 pistol with eight rounds. Mofokeng said several cartridges had been found at the scene. She also added that no one had been injured during the shoot-out between the police and the five suspected armed robbers.

BLOEMFONTEIN CELTIC, SPONSORS AND SUPPORTERS would love to express our deepest condolences to the Family, Friends and Orlando Pirates for the un mely death of

Senzo Meyiwa (24 September 1987 – 26 October 2014)

We are not only anguished but saddened to lose such a great na onal asset. A genuine hero has fallen we are indeed with Orlando Pirates and family during this trying mes. Football will never be the same again, to us you were more than an opponent but a family member that has le us unceremoniously hence the pain we are going through. Once again no words can adequately express our shock for the loss of such an incredible human being. May his soul rest in peace. TO THE FAMILY WE SAY: He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youth grow red and weary and young man stumble and fall; but those who trust in the Lord he will renew their strength. Esaiah chapter 40 verse 29-31.

Tigers earn their stripes } Teboho Setena THE players of Bloemfontein Young Tigers have been rewarded for their impressive performance this just-ended season of 2013-’14, most notably for reaching the Nedbank Cup’s last-32 leg. The club’s management rewarded players at a function held at the Boikhuco Old Age Home’s hall on 17 October. The Tigers are campaigning in the second tier league of the South African Football Association (Safa) in the Free State stream. Players were rewarded financially by British Khoarai, the club’s managing director, who expressed delight with the team’s improved performance. All the players who were rewarded were part of the squad that came close to making history in the tournament, which offers the winner the chance to compete continentally in the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Champions League Cup Tournament. The team was the only lower ranked team of the 17 clubs in the Free State to reach the Nedbank Cup’s last-32 leg. However, they gave away the chance to progress to the next

stage of 16 when they lost 4-5 on penalties to the National First Division (NFD) outfit Milano United. The club embraced the newly-enlisted players for the 2014-’15 season with the view to inspire them to also do well. To inspire the current crop of players, the club’s former star midfielder Nteboheng “Disco” Nyedimane encouraged them to focus and play with purpose. Nyedimane’s sentiments were a reflection of his journey, characterised by ill-discipline, which cost him an opportunity to play abroad. Nyedimane was a part of the South African u.23 team that produced the likes of Benni McCarthy, who played aboard for more than a decade. “Play to achieve more, make history of your own and undo that of the generation that preceded you at Tigers. I lost the plot because I allowed fame and fortune to go to my head,” Nyedimane said. His wayward behaviour also cost him a chance to play for Bloemfontein Celtic. He mended his attitude, completed his studies in Sports Management and works at the Free State Sport Science Institute in Bloemfontein.

Celtic coach’s job almost safe } Sidwell Guduka THE under-fire Bloemfontein Celtic coach Ernst Middendorp is just one win away from saving his job. The often sarcastic German mentor is said to have been instructed by the club management on 6 October to win their next three matches to avoid joining the ranks of the unemployed. But back-to-back Absa Premiership victories over the struggling Polokwane City (5-1) and the University of Pretoria (1-2) have all but ensured this and he is confident of doing well against BidVest Wits at the Free State Stadium on Sunday. Phunya Sele Sele beat AmaTuks last Wednesday thanks to two strikes by Lerato Lamola on either side of the

halftime break. Middendorp is believed to have gone down on his knees and begged his players to help him save his job. And the players have responded positively to his plea. His men will have to be at their best to defeat a wounded side who lost their previous two matches. The visitors won all four of their encounters against Celtic last season, which began with a victory in the MTN 8 Cup, Nedbank Cup and two in the league. Phunya Sele Sele gave Wits a taste of their own medicine in the Charity Showdown pre-season tournament, but Wits knocked Celtic out of the MTN 8 Cup in August. Kick-off at the Free State Stadium on Sunday is scheduled for 15:30.

Things in my life went from good to worse in a very short time. My love live, financial problems jealousy, my husband’s family were all against me. Luckily I came across Sonia through a friend. She helped me and showed me my enemies through a mirror for only R200. She did miracles in my life. She told me all my problems without mentioning anything to her. She showed me the people who worked hard to see me suffering some of which were my friends and relatives. She performed a special prayer, washed away my bad luck and cleansed my home. Gave me a love potion with a ring for my financial problems in less than five days, my husband was always by my side and my enemies confessed and asked for forgiveness. It was like a bad omen on me, but after I saw The Great Papa Magi, he touched my forehead and palms, and prayed for me and told me to wait for seven days. In just 3 days, my girlfriend requested us to meet with her at their home. On arrival, she knelt down and told me she was ready to be my wife. We made a great wedding and are happy now. KAIZER MOTAUNG, chairman of Kaizer Chiefs, has expressed his delight with the progress made by his club this season. Amakhosi have moved into the top six of the Africa Football/Soccer Clubs rankings after having accumulated 1 561 points during the current cycle. The recent rankings were released on 19 October.
