Striker reaches his goal

Wins Sports Star of the Year title, signs professional contract } Sidwell Guduka THIS ambitious young man was smiling from ear to ear on Saturday, and it was easy to see why he was on cloud nine. His name is Tshegofatso Mabaso, and he was announced as the 2014 SuperSport Let’s Play Sports Star of the Year winner for Express Mangaung at the glittering prize-giving ceremony held at the Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein. The 18-year-old was competing for the grand prize with Tokkie Kasselman and Marc Fourie who walked away with the first and second prizes respectively. For his efforts, Mabaso received a SuperSport trophy, Jockey hamper, R500 Woolworths voucher, Spec-Savers sunglasses, Eco friendly bags with Eco friendly pens as well as SuperSport speaker (where you connect your MP3 or iPhone). “I feel very happy to receive this award, but I’m also surprised. I didn’t think I would win it but I won it eventually,” an excited Mabaso told Express. “I just want to thank the Lord for giving me this award. It really means a lot to me. “I would like to encourage other youngsters to enter competitions like the SuperSport Let’s Play Sports Star of the Year. They might also win big prizes in this competition,” he said. This Grey College gr. 12 learner achievements speak for themselves with the crowning of these being included in the South African u.19 football squad. He also led his school’s team to winning tournaments. He was contracted by the Bloemfontein PSL side Celtic. “Signing a professional contract with Celtic has been the highlight of my football career. I want to repay the club for showing faith in me by scoring a lot of goals for them,” said the striker. “I made my debut against Amazulu in

I really enjoyed the match and can’t explain how I felt. “We lost the game though.

“Now my aim is to fight for a starting position in the team. “I know I have to work hard to achieve that, but anything is possible,” he added. Mabaso said playing in the PSL is quite different from playing amateur football.

“At school level coaches just tell you to go out there and enjoy yourself. “Now I have to listen to the coach and follow his instructions,” he said. ) For more stories visit www.expressnews.co.za.

} Sidwell Guduka HARD WORK really pays dividends and Kelebogile Ngungumane can attest to that. The 35-year-old police constable, who is stationed at the Heidedal police station, has been rewarded for her commitment to fight all sorts of crime in the community. Ngungumane was honoured with a Woman of the Year Award, under the category of In-Community Projects, during the 2014 Free State SAPS Excellence Awards held at the Phillip Saunders Resort near Bloemfontein. The prize-giving event was organised by the Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport, in collaboration with the provincial South African Police Services (SAPS). “I’m extremely honoured and grateful to receive the prestigious Woman of the Year Award. I would like to thank the SAPS and MEC’s office for this recognition of my personal accomplishments and efforts. I would also like to thank my colleagues for pushing me hard to do my work,” Ngungumane told Express. “Honestly, I didn’t expect to win this award. I’m really happy. The fact that I had won it has not sinked it yet. It means that the hard work that I do really pays off and it will encourage me to continue to work hard,” Ngungumane said. She is the sector manager at Heidedal and her work focuses more on social crime. “I am the community police officer. Together with the assistance of my colleagues we try to fight crime in the community as if it is war,” she said. “I am responsible for organising crime awareness campaigns and educational programmes within my sector. “For instance, if we deal with issues like gangsterism in schools, I invite experts, ex-convicts and celebrities to encourage the youth to stay away from such bad activities,” she added.

Hopefully I’ll win it, who knows,” she concluded. Meanwhile, over 20 other police officers were honoured at the same event. The Free State MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, Butana Komphela, congratulated the awards recipients on the night and he thanked them for fighting crime in the province. “The Free State is the safest province in our country because of you. According to crime statistics, crime in the Free State has decreased by 6%,” said Komphela.

GBMA more than just an awards ceremony } Oteng Mpete THE Golden Bean Music Awards (GBMA) ceremony is a few days away and nominated artists are itching in anticipation. After a stunning display of talent and heaps of potential at last year’s ceremony, this year can only to be bigger and better. The GBMA not only pays homage to artists born in the Free State, it also offers artists in the province an opportunity to learn more about the industry they are about to join. Teddy B, the creative director, explains that the artists are nominated through people’s choice. “Artists were chosen by their fans,” Teddy B says. “The artists nominated have songs on local radio stations and often get high rotation. The GBMA nominated artists were selected through public vote. The public was responsible for the nominees in each category. The GBMA executive committee then sifted through the hundreds of nominations and selected all the artists that qualified for the awards.” The awards aim at promoting local talent, as well as equipping young people with skills and information regarding the music industry. The GBMA’s vision is to have artists from the Free State promoted to national or even an international level, in terms of producing music or theatre productions.

‘The public were completely responsible for who were nominated for each category.’ – Teddy B, creative director The Free State provincial government has promised to provide funding to create a programme, together with the GBMA organisers, that will train eager artists to be business-minded professionals within the music industry. The workshops will be open to the public and the 2014 nominated artists will also be enrolled with the basic skills development programme. The programme will span over a year and at the end of the year the artists must be able to create a sustainable income. Artists will also be taught the importance of registration with regulatory organisations like the South African Music Rights Organisation (Samro). The GBMA organisers would love to see local amateur photographers working with local artists to build their own profiles, but also to involve the artists. “The notion of Ubuntu should be used by local artists. “A person is a person through other people, and this is how a sustainable Free State music industry will be maintained,” says Teddy B.

CRYING FOR JUSTICE: The aggrieved Aupa Maleho, father of murdered victim Pule Maleho.

Photo: Teboho Setena

THE unavailability of information about the brutal assault which claimed the life of Pule Simon Maleho from Ventersburg has caused controversy between the justice-seeking family and the police. No witness has come forth to give information that is crucial in the police investigation to bring the assailants to book and render justice to the Maleho family. The Ventersburg police have not made an arrest as yet since the attack on the deceased in an alcohol-fuelled incident two months ago. Maleho jnr was found alive in the early hours of 5 September, but died of head injuries later in the month. The deceased’s family is still seeking answers about his assault. It is alleged his assailants, a group of nine men, are known by members of the community of Mamahabane, Ventersburg. The assault apparently followed a bitter argument between the deceased and one of the group members at a tavern in Mamahabane. He sustained severe head injuries following an attack. It is alleged that one of the assailants deliberately chased and hit the deceased with a car. After this attack, he was severely beaten. The aggrieved father of the deceased, Aupa Maleho, expressed displeasure with the police’s inability to crackdown on the suspects, blaming police negligence and not investigating useful clues that could lead to the arrest of the suspects who are said to be roaming the streets of Mamahabane. According to Maleho senior, an informant who could assist in the investigation has not been consulted after the police were made aware of this information. He said the police were delaying justice for his son. WO Malebo Khosana, spokesperson of the Thabong Police Cluster, which includes the Ventersburg police,

refuted allegations of negligence saying action was first taken by the on-duty police member, Const. Tshidiso Lepitla, who interrogated the victim upon finding him at the scene of the attack where he was surrounded by community members on 5 September at about 05:00. Lepitla called an ambulance which transported the victim to hospital. Khosana said on 6 September the Ventersburg police had opened a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) which has since been changed to murder after Maleho jnr had died. Khosana said it had been reported that the deceased’s face was swollen and he had a strong odour of alcohol about him after the attack. Khosana refuted claims by Maleho snr that he had not been informed about the status quo of the investigation under WO Ponti Moeketsi. He said a senior official had been tasked to peruse the docket after Maleho snr had lodged a grievance with the police’s provincial office. “The official was satisfied with the progress of the investigation and informed Moeketsi that he would contact Maleho snr directly to inform him of the findings,” said Khosana. The deceased died on 29 September. Khosana said a post-mortem report had revealed Maleho jnr had died due to head injuries. He said the report issued by the paramedic who had initially examined the deceased in the ambulance had revealed the victim had had halted speech and a low level of consciousness. Khosana said the investigation was underway and requested eyewitnesses to provide information helpful in the arrest and conviction of the suspects. The deceased was treated at the Bongani Regional Hospital in Welkom, Katleho Hospital in Virginia and also the Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein where his father said he had last seen him alive but bed-ridden and being fed via a tube.

Stand strong under persecution of faith } Pastor Mutombo Kumwimba

OUR faith will be tested by persecution, but true believers will hold on to their confession of faith. The only reason persecution will come, is to discourage your faith. This persecution does not only come from people we do not know, but also from those not only known, but trusted. That could be your mother, father, brother, sister, cousin even neighbours. They will ask you, if truly your God is alive, why this and that is happening to you? Why did you lose your job if your God is alive? Why didn’t God save your marriage? All these questions have only one purpose and that purpose is to discourage your faith. The most important thing to do in a situation that seems contrary to your faith, is to walk away because when you do so, God will start fighting for you. Some will say before I committed my life to Jesus, my finances were well . . . It is true, but Satan wants you to be discouraged on the path of faith so that you give up that faith. Job 2:9 Job was a righteous man, but his faith was persecuted. Satan destroyed everything he had, killed his family, destroyed his farms and on top of that He inflicted on him a skin disease and He pushed his wife to persecute his faith. The Bible says Job received a great deal of discouragement from his wife . . . she said to him: “Job, why don’t you curse your God and die?” In other words, she meant to say to him

your God is useless, powerless, sleeping and forgetful. But the Bible says although he faced such persecution to his faith; he did not give up nor change the confession of his mouth. He still glorified God above his skin disease, his loss of property, his loss of children. In the end Job was fully restored. The most important thing Satan would like to destroy in the lives of people of God is faith and thus the most important thing people of God should forever maintain is their faith. Jesus honours faith the most and faith honours Jesus the most. Dear readers, we should know that our faith will be persecuted at some point; people will put your faith under scrutiny just to discourage you. Do not change your confession of faith if truly Jesus Christ is the basis of your faith. ) To hear more and learn more about these faith-building messages, visit the Joe Solomon School every Sunday from 09:00. You can also send your prayer request to 071-214-9404. ) Send your words of encouragement and contribute to this column. Email your contribution of about 400 words to Jabulani.Dlamini@volksblad.com.

Help curb child hunger } Jabulani Dlamini

AN ambitious campaign to end child hunger during the school holidays is set for a pilot run in Bloemfontein. As a supplement to the governmentrun school feeding scheme, the Free State Food Project aims to end child hunger during school holidays as the children no longer receive meals at schools. Thembile Mohlonyane, coordinator of the Free State Food Project, says for children from poor families this otherwise happy time of the year brings nothing but misery. “Christmas is a time for family and happiness. It is a tradition that makes many memories. Our far-away family members come home to gather and enjoy the holidays. “For many Christians it is a time of celebrating the birth of Christ, the Messiah, often with lavish festivities,” Mohlonyane says. He says with poverty and unemployment, however, this time of year brings misery to many communities and households. “It is a period that needy families wish would not arrive, as it is the period that brings the reality of poverty and hunger closer. “For children from poor families the weekends and holidays are not that much fun. “Many poor children receive school meals during the week which may be their only meal of the day, but what happens during the weekends and school holidays? “They are going without meals and are faced with hunger every day,” he says. Mohlonyane says there are programmes to mitigate child hunger during school terms, with the provision of meals at school reaching more than 106 896 children across Mangaung. In many cases this is the only meal of the day for children from poor families. There is, however, still no programme to deal with the problem of child hunger during weekends and holidays. The need is always huge in poor areas, Mohlonyane says, and it is made worse by the lack of employment, poverty and low income for many families, which result in many poor parents not being able to provide enough food for their children. Food donation campaign The community of Bloemfontein is called upon to join efforts to lay the foundation to end child hunger in Mangaung. The Free Sate Food Project aims to mobilize donations to feed 2 000 children on the daily basis during the festive season, and also provide 2 000 food parcels for Christmas. The campaign is collecting donations from today until 21 December.

T h e Fr e e S t a t e Fo o d Project aims to end child hunger during school holidays as the children no longer receive meals at schools. Thembile Mohlonyane, coordinator of the Free State Food Project, says for children from poor families this otherwise happy time of the year brings nothing but misery. From 12 to 21 December meals will be provided daily at different meal sites across the Bloemspruit area. The project will take a break on 22 December and children will be provided with mini food parcels to take home. Children will receive daily meals again from 5 to 14 January 2015. How can it be supported? We urge government departments and businesses to join the campaign by participating in the corporate food donation week from 8 to 12 December. This week is aimed at giving workers the opportunity to donate both food and money. We also urge religious institutions to dedicate one day’s offering in support of the campaign and ask their congregations to support the initiative. What can I do? The business community can donate storage facilities for the period of the project, where food can be stored and daily meals can be prepared. The food industry can donate bulk food for meals, both dry and fresh produce. Shopping centres around Bloemfontein can allocate space for donation boxes and grant permission for volunteers to man these boxes on weekends. Farmers can donate fresh produce from their farms. Transport companies can avail transport services for the collection and distribution of food. They can also make donations of non-perishable food. People can also volunteer their time and services in support of the project. The following is needed for the duration of the project: ) A light delivery vehicle for the collection and distribution of food.

EXPRESS, WEDNESDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2014

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR HAPPINESS, PEACE, PROSPERITY, LOVE AND GOOD HEALTH? My dearest friends and fellow Africans, do not waste time and money to take spiritualists who promise and don’t deliver. I guarantee you. The Great Papa Magi will never disappoint you. Only one visit to him and you will live smiling. I am OMIE SINGH, a resident of Pietermaritzburg, after I saw an article in the paper saying that The Great Papa Magi charges only R200. I believed in him, I booked an appointment and met with him at his beautiful temple. In Bloemfontein at Waverley

next to spar. Before I met him, I was struggling financially and I could not stay in relationships, whoever came in my life, and then something happened and my girlfriend left me. It was like a bad omen on me, but after I saw The Great Papa Magi, he touched my forehead and palms, and prayed for me and told me to wait for seven days. In just 3 days, my girlfriend requested us to meet with her at their home. On arrival, she knelt down and told me she was ready to be my wife. We made a great wedding and are happy now. The Great Papa Magi is the right person to solve our society problems. You can find him at Waverley Bloemfontein next to Spar.

You can also visit him - there will be a gradual change in your life: 079 125 8327, www.healerram.webs.com

Teachers made tech savvy THE Free State Department of Education and Mustek will host technology days at the Pholoho Primary School in Bloemfontein today from 09:00. It is targeted at the senior officials, school principals, teachers and technology subject advisors to inform them about technological developments in the classrooms. The purpose of hosting technological days is for Mustek to introduce and educate role players and decision-makers about various technological equipment that could enhance learning and teaching. The expected outcome is to have more technologically savvy officials, teachers and learners and encourage innovative teaching methods through technology keeping up with the developments of the 21st century. Tate Makgoe, MEC for Education, said his department advocated for the implementation of Information Communications Technologies (ICTs) in education in order to improve quality teaching and learning. “We have responded to this policy directive by embarking on a venture to roll-out ICT connectivity to rural and township schools,” Makgoe said. In many parts of the world technology is harnessed with great effect to improve education outcomes. Mustek is a leader in the field of technology in South Africa, manufacturing its

own Mecer range of computers, laptops, tablets and other devices. Different technological companies such as Macmillan and Media24’s Via Africa, who publish e-text books, will be afforded a platform to display their products at the event.

Masakala hopes to inspire others } Sidwell Guduka TEBOHO MASAKALA has written a book to help inspire people who are dealing with obstacles in life. The book is called Shout To The Lord and it is selling like hot cakes in the Free State. The 25-year-old author, who hails from Selosesha in Thaba Nchu, said his fifth book was aimed at uplifting and motivating people who are low spirited in the Christian way. “This motivational book is not only aimed at Christians, but everyone who needs motivation to overcome their obstacles. I decided to write this book after realising that many people in the community are spiritually down and have given up on life,” Masakala told Express. “Through this book I’m trying to uplift the spirits of those people. They should know that God has not given up on them because He has great plans for them in life,” said Masakala. Masakala is a writer of note and has written four other books in the past. They are Mind Pen, Paper and Ideas; Through It All; The Fall of Marcus Desmond and The Spiritual Corner. “Writing comes naturally to me, it is a God-given talent,” he commented. “I fell in love with writing at a tender age. I used to read books by the late Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe and was inspired. May his soul rest in peace,” said Masakala. “I published my first book in 2009 after meeting with another wellknown Nigerian writer, Omoseye Bolaji. “He used to stay in South Africa,

‘I decided to write this book after realising that many people in the community are spiritually down and have given up on life.’ – Teboho Masakala but he moved back to his native country earlier this year. “Bolaji encouraged me to write books after he had read my short story titled If Only I Had Listened. He was so impressed with my writing style that he gave me free lessons on how to go about publishing my work. “He also helped to edit my first book. I learnt so many writing tricks from him. He is my mentor,” he added. The former Selosesha Primary School and Goronyane High School learner said that one other person who had encouraged him to write novels was Kelopile Moletsane, the former principal of Selosesha Primary. “Moletsane used to encourage me to take writing seriously. I’m glad that I listened to her. She has played a big role in my becoming the writer that I am today, I must say.” Masakala’s book is available at R100. If you want to buy a copy, call him on 078-124-5396. Better still, you can contact him via Facebook: Teboho Masakala. ) For more stories visit www.express-news.co.za.

Squad announced for football academy } Sidwell Guduka AFTER months of intense scouting in the SAB Regional League and the Varsity football tournament, a 45-man squad has been announced for the Castle Lager Football Academy. Among those players three are from the Free State. They are midfielders Zimo Themba, Tshepo Mokhabi and striker Dylan O’Brain. The selected players will go into a camp for training at the Wits University’s education campus at Parktown in Johannesburg from 16 January to 2 February next year, where the final squad of 23

members will be chosen. Former Bafana Bafana legends Neil Tovey and Phil Masinga will be taking the 45 players through their paces for three days during trials. The main objective of the Castle Lager Football Academy is to discover young talented players with the potential to be fast-tracked and be signed by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the National First Division (NFD) teams. The 23 players who make the cut, will play a series of friendly matches against the PSL and NFD sides. Tovey has expressed his delight with the players the scouts have identified.

“We have talented players in the country, and the scouts did a great job. It was not an easy decision to make as we had a pool of talented players who have a bright football career ahead of them,” he commented. The Castle Lager Football Academy, which was launched in 2012, is a partnership between Castle Lager and the South African Football Association (Safa). The campaign has produced four players, Siphiwe Mtsweni, Rafique de Goede, Chase Peterson and Deolin Mekoa. They were snapped up by Kaizer Chiefs, Vasco da Gama, SuperSport United and Maritzburg United, respectively. “Castle Lager remains a firm, committed and longstanding supporter of our three national teams. “The Castle Lager Academy is part of our sponsorship strategy that aims to not only lend support to our current national teams, but also ensure we have a solid pipeline for ensuring that Bafana Bafana gets the benefit of our best soccer talent in the country,” Shawn Katz, marketing communications manager of Castle Lager, said.

Boks face Proteas in charity match THE national captain Jean de Villiers and vice-captain Victor Matfield have both been included in a star-studded Springbok T20 cricket team that will face off against the Proteas at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium for the Nelson Mandela Legacy Cup match on Friday, 5 December. Matfield scored 23 runs from 23 balls and hit four fours against the Proteas in Cape Town earlier this year. The two Springbok centurions will be joined by Willem Alberts, who took two wickets in as many balls at Newlands, as well as Willie le Roux, who scored 16 from eight balls including a big six. Recently-retired Tiaan Liebenberg and Duane Vermeulen, one of the Springboks’ wicket-takers at Newlands, will also have another chance to showcase their cricketing skills. “Everyone had a blast playing against the Proteas last year and we’re looking forward to more of the same this year,” said De Villiers from Cardiff where the Springboks will play their final test of 2014 against Wales on Saturday. “At this stage however, our focus is solely on Wales this weekend. Thereafter we’ll start putting our plans in place for the match at the Wanderers. “The match is for a good cause and we’re hoping for a sold-out crowd at the Bull Ring, which is a magnificent venue which has seen a number of superb performances in the past.” Big Flip van der Merwe, who is recovering from injury, has been appointed manager but the Spring-

Prof. Kintu

Made my enemies come and confess to me… Several years of unhappiness in my marriage lead to loneliness and continued crying. After hearing testimonials about Professor Kintu on the radio, in newspapers and my old friend's son he had saved from drugs and alcohol abuse, I decided to visit him . For only R100 Professor Kinthu read my fortune accurately and told me about my past life and my marriage. In a dish of water with a mirror he showed me the face of my enemies as well as my husband's girlfriend. He performed a special prayer and gave me powerful love crystals - a special one to use at my workplace and for my business success. Unbelievable! In one week my enemies approached me and confessed bad things they did to us and my husband left his girlfriend and came back to me. Over the years I tried healers and priests but they all failed. Professor Kintu, there's no other way to say thank you but to tell others about you.

TESTIMONY

Mr and Mrs Thabo My last resort to bring back my lost lover. Me and my wife Bridget had given up after losing my job and struggling to keep up with my car and house payment. I had to change schools for my children from private schools to government schools because financially we were not stable anymore, but thanks to my in-law who gave me this woman of God's number, she helped me to turn my life around financially by giving me a magic ring which brought back hope into my life. It cost me only R800 and for the first time in my life I went into a casino with my wife and we used our magic to hit a jackpot. Now my house and car are paid off and my children are back in private schools - now life is so wonderful, so in case you are looking for the best healer, please look no more.

Competition heats up in tournament } Sidwell Guduka THE much-anticipated sixth edition of the Sasol League National Championships will see an array of Banyana Banyana players fighting for their respective clubs to be crowned as champions for this year. The nine-club tournament, won by the star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns in Klerksdorp last year, will be played at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth from 8 to 14 December. Speaking during the launch and draw of the 2014 edition of the competition that was conducted at Safa House in Johannesburg last Thursday, Dumisani Mbokane, Sasol sponsorship specialist, said: “We are proud to see the contribution the league has made in the national team, we have seen a rise in the number of players in the Banyana Banyana squad who play in the teams participating in the league. “This shows that we have met our objective of using the league as a feeder to the national team. “We have seen high levels of competitiveness in the past years at the national championships, and it is with no doubt that it will continue in Port Elizabeth,” Mbokane added. The Free State winners, Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, have been drawn in Group C together with either Limpopo Kanatla Ladies/Ma-Indies Ladies from Limpopo and Titans/Als PUK from North-West. The Limpopo, North-West, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape champions will be known this weekend after the provinces completed their league programme on

Things in my life went from good to worse in a very short time. My love live, financial problems jealousy, my husband’s family were all against me. Luckily I came across Sonia through a friend. She helped me and showed me my enemies through a mirror for only R200. She did miracles in my life. She told me all my problems without mentioning anything to her. She showed me the people who worked hard to see me suffering some of which were my friends and relatives. She performed a special prayer, washed away my bad luck and cleansed my home. Gave me a love potion with a ring for my financial problems in less than five days, my husband was always by my side and my enemies confessed and asked for forgiveness. Come and visit me at Bayswater.
