Sharing Christmas cheer

GOOD CAUSE: Afro Pop group Alah Yen has embarked on a worthy campaign aimed at spreading Christmas cheer to those less fortunate. The group, made up of Lehlohomolo Mokoena (left) and Nomkhitha Tyu mane, wants to col lect 10 000 teddy bears in a campaign that will see all ter minallyill children in the Free State who will be spending their Christmas in hospital, receive a teddy bear. The cam paign, aptly named Give a Child a Teddy, will largely focus on orphanages, HIV and Aids centres, homes for children with dis abilities, as well as public hospitals. Ac cording to the pair, those who wish to donate cash can do so, but they encour age those who wish to take part to rather buy a teddy bear(s) and organise with them so they can col lect it. On the musi cal front, the duo's third album will be released in March next year with 20% of the proceeds go ing towards the Save the Child Campaign. Call Mokoena on 0829569081. NEWS

These 21 will compete for crown THE Miss South Africa 2015 semi-finalists – who are in line to compete for the Miss South Africa title at Sun City on 29 March next year – were announced by Sun International. It was also announced that the partnership with 2014 headline sponsor, Cell C, has been so successful that the mobile operator has signed a three-year contract with the pageant which will run until 2017. The winner will follow in the footsteps of reigning queen, Rolene Strauss, who is in London to compete at the Miss World Pageant on 14 December. The event will be broadcast on SABC3 at 16:00. Three of the 24 semi-finalists

were disqualified after it was revealed that they had visible tattoos, which is against the rules of the competition. The three are Kelly Davids, Altina Vries and Aseza Matanzima. The remaining 21 semi-finalists are Busi Mahlangu, Mpumalanga, Chanelle Sardinha, Gauteng, Danelle de Wet, Western Cape, Gugulethu Banda, Gauteng, Iman Sheik, KwaZulu-Natal, Kim Wentzel, Gauteng, Liesl Laurie, Gauteng, Melissa Kock, Western Cape, Nicole Lamberts, Western Cape, Nompumelelo Maduna, Gauteng, Rachelle Gietzen, Western Cape, Refilwe Mthimunye, Gauteng, Roxanne Zeller, Gauteng, Safiyah Vally, Gauteng, Shane Naidoo, Gauteng,

Sihle Makhanya, KwaZulu-Natal, Tara-Leigh Coetzee, Western Cape, Tarryn Kim Cornelius, Western Cape, Taryn Morris, Western Cape, Thenjiwe Masondo, Gauteng, and Tsakane Mangwane, Gauteng. Their list of credentials is impressive: Many have completed or are studying for degrees, one is a qualified speech, language and hearing therapist, a second is studying to become an engineer while another, like Strauss, is a fourth-year medical student. Alison McKie, group manager: marketing at Sun International, said the company had embarked on an incredible journey last year that changed the concept of

the Miss South Africa pageant. Sun International, long-time licence holders of the Miss South Africa title, along with Cell C, decided that the pageant needed an exciting makeover in order to be relevant to a contemporary South Africa. “This was achieved this year,” McKie said, “and we are now moving to bigger and better things.” Cell C’s new three-year contract with the Miss South Africa Pageant is in line with their Believe Manifesto and on-going strategy to empower women. “Cell C believes that by supporting initiatives like Miss SA and our Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day, we create opportunities and inspire young

South African women and support the development of strong inspirational role models,” said Suzette van der Merwe, executive: commercial communications. The Miss South Africa Pageant has become part of South African life since the first contest in 1956. Doing good and leaving a legacy is an integral part of the Miss South Africa philosophy. The winner will be the spokesperson for the Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day and will endeavour to raise funds for girl children from disadvantaged backgrounds to further their studies. The ten finalists will be revealed early next year as the build-up to the event continues.

EFF announces provincial top 5

Paying tribute

} Sidwell Guduka THE Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) recently held its first historic Provincial People’s Assembly at the Dr Bohmer Primary School in Bloemfontein. According to Mohaneloa Tsoaeli, spokesperson for the EFF provincial command team, the assembly took place under the theme People’s power for economic freedom, which marked the commitment of his movement to advance the struggle for economic emancipation of the people of South Africa. “After a long and intensive programme of establishing structures across the province, today we can boldly and proudly say that the EFF has managed to establish itself in all five regions of the province with fully functional branches. Out of 316 wards of the Free State, we are having as many as 250 branches. Clearly this is an indication that we are an organisation that is deeply rooted within the masses of our people,” Tsoaeli said. At the assembly, the EFF’s provincial leaders were revealed and they will lead the movement for the next three years. “It must be on record that this was a peaceful and well-managed assembly which was contested among fighters and ultimately the leadership was elected,” he added. The EFF’s newly elected top five in the Free State are Kgotso Morapela (chairperson), Makhosini Shabangu (deputy chairperson), Mandisa Makesini (secretary), Lewele Modisenyane (deputy secretary) and Eddie Goliath (treasurer). “This top five is complemented by 16 additional members which are fairly

balanced in terms of gender representation,” Tsoaeli explained. “True to their commitment to advance the struggle for economic freedom, these members have pledged to unite and work very hard to grow the EFF in our province,” he said. “We would like to take this opportunity to wish the people of South Africa, in particular the Free State, a merry Christmas and blessed New Year. “We hope that they will come back from Christmas holidays re-energised to pursue the struggle for economic freedom,” Tsoaeli concluded. ) For more news, visit www.expressnews.co.za

Group O essential

GROUP O BLOOD is often in greater demand than other blood groups, which is why the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) encourages Group O blood donors to donate regularly. Here are some reasons for this: ) Group O blood can usually be given to patients of other ABO blood groups. The reason is that the red cells in type O blood have neither antigen A nor antigen B. In medical emergencies, when urgent blood transfusions are required, there may be little time to determine a patient’s blood type. Group O negative blood then comes to the rescue, as it can safely be transfused to patients of other blood groups. ) Group O blood saves the lives of newborns. Babies born with blood disorders may also require immediate blood transfusions in order to save their lives. In some cases difficulties may occur in determining the blood groups of these infants. Group O blood is therefore important in supplying this ongoing need. Babies also need “fresher” blood than other patients. Red blood cells stored for up to 42 days can be transfused to most adult patients. Only blood less than five days old may be used for transfusion to newborn infants, or in exceptional cases when babies require transfusions while still in the womb. ) Patients in need of a blood transfusion as part of their medical treatment rely on blood donors of all blood groups to donate safe blood regularly.

ADVERTORIAL

Doing your bit to donate is easy

POTENTIAL blood donors could be unsure about the facts surrounding donation. Here are answers to frequently asked questions. Why should I donate blood? Donating this “precious gift of life” saves the lives of those in dire need of blood. Regular blood donations will ensure that the South African National Blood

Service (SANBS) always has sufficient blood to provide to all patients. Who needs blood? Thousands of people would die daily if there were not sufficient quality blood in stock. A unit of blood donated can equal three gifts of life, as almost every unit of blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets.

Categories of people who need blood transfusions include: ) women hemorrhaging due to pregnancy complications; ) children with severe anaemia; ) accident victims; and ) surgical and cancer patients. What is the donation procedure? Donors will: ) complete a questionnaire containing personal details;

) answer questions relating to their health and social behaviour; ) undergo a one-on-one interview as a follow-up to their answers; ) have their iron level checked, and their blood pressure and pulse rate will be taken; and ) be allowed to donate one unit of blood (480 mF) – a couple of refreshments will replace the lost fluid in one’s body.

Interesting facts

There is no substitute for blood

) THERE are four major blood groups: O, A, B and AB. ) Group O is the most common blood group and is always in demand. ) Your body replaces the liquid donated within 24 hours through fluid intake. ) Every time your heart beats, 20% of your heart’s output goes to your brain, carrying oxygen vital for survival. Between 40% and 45% of your blood is made up of red blood cells that carry this oxygen. ) The remaining 55% to 60% is plasma, a small proportion of white blood cells (which defend your body), clotting factors and platelets. ) The average volume of blood in an adult body is four to five litres, or about 8% of the body weight.

BLOOD is made up of different components and each component has its own important function. The main function of red blood cells is to carry oxygen to the tissues and remove carbon dioxide. The main function of platelets and the coagulation factors is to prevent and stop bleeding. Any one of these components may be used in the treatment of patients with certain medical conditions. Substances designed to carry oxygen, such as a haemoglobin solution prepared from cattle’s

THE South African National Blood Service’s office in Bloemfontein is in 11 Short Street. Call the office on 051-447-4122 or send a fax to 051-447-4290. Donations can be made on Mondays between 10:00 and 16:45, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays

blood, are currently being evaluated. This is available in very limited quantities internationally. These oxygen carriers circulate in the blood stream for a short period and are usually only used as an interim measure. In cases of trauma or during operations, blood volume which is lost by the patient may initially be replaced with synthetic solutions such as normal saline. These solutions are not recognized as “blood substitutes”, but are blood volume expanders.

They do not carry oxygen. They are frequently used in the initial treatment of patients, for example in the ambulance or in the operating theatre, while blood is being obtained from the blood bank. There is no substitute for blood. When the patient’s haemoglobin level, platelet level, or coagulation factor level falls below a critical point, blood transfusion is the only option. Patients rely on voluntary blood donors.

When and where to donate blood in the Bloemfontein area and Fridays between 09:00 and 16:45, and on Thursdays between 09:00 and 18:00.

Book gives a view of ANC over 100 years TREADING THE WATERS OF HISTORY book focuses on the ANC’s history – a history accumulated over 100 years of its existence. It is a compilation of dialogues that took place prior to the main centennial celebration in Mangaung in February 2012. This version is led by renowned scholars Prof. Kwandiwe Kondlo, Emeritus Prof. Chris Saunders and Dr Siphamandla Zondi. It was recently launched by the editors at the University of the Free State (UFS). In the months leading up to the ANC centenary, it was nearly impossible not to hear a comment of analysis about this liberation movement. The ANC had become the subject of the media zeitgeist. It was either lambasted as a charlatan by those who disagreed or it was

heralded as a genius or a cunning liberation movement. The book gives commentators and analysts some basic thinking of this gigantic movement. This version will also assist recommended readers like political activists, researchers and analysts. The presenters have proven knowledge on the subject. The most engaging one was the presentation by Prof. Ben Turok on The Evolution of ANC Economic Policy. The narrative in the book attempts to describe different phases of the life of ANC members in exile and the ANC as a ruling party. This makes the narrative even more complex – the history of an organisation that has lived beyond a century cannot be com-

It also tackles a complex and yet critical and interesting subject, a history of a ruling party whose ideals remain relevant to date. A question that needs to be asked is what traits have kept it alive for more than 100 years. Also, is the ANC on course in meeting its historical mission? S Qondile Khedama reviewed the book, Treading the Waters of History: Perspectives on the ANC. Khedama is the general manager: communication of the Mangaung Metro Municipality.

IN any situation there are always two sides to a story. Somebody said even a flat pancake has two sides. In Latin they call it the audi alteram partem rule. Give the other person an opportunity to make presentations and to convince you otherwise. Therefore before making any decision, even if you think it is best for the person affected, hear that person out first. Listen to the other person even more so where the decision may be detrimental to him or her. Before you judge, tell the person what the charges are, give him or her time to prepare, give that person an opportunity to be represented and to call witnesses who can support their case. As we have seen with the recent celebrity criminal cases, a person must be given an opportunity to cross-examine. This will enable you to make a fair decision. When preparing for a case you may need documents which will help you to prove your case. If you are accused without being given the time to prepare yourself, you may be at a disadvantage. Witnesses are also important to tell what they know and/or to interpret what is happening and give expert advice. In any case there are always experts challenging each other in interpreting what has happened. For example, in a car crash two people who are eyewitnesses may not have seen the same thing. When you look at these cars, you sometimes cannot say with certainty what happened. Which direction was car A travelling in? Sometimes they are facing the

same direction. Did the pole jump in front of the car? Therefore call expert witnesses to advise you. Unfortunately as people we read a closed book. We only look at the cover and conclude. We listen to gossip and hearsay and base our decisions on that. We accuse and decide that people are guilty without listening to their side. We are partial and biased and make unfair decisions. We call people names when they are not able to answer for themselves. People can just have a perception that people like you behave in a certain way. For example, that beautiful people are stupid or intelligent people are arrogant, etc. So even before they take time to know you or give you an opportunity to say your say, you are condemned. Somebody told me that if people are accusing you unfairly, just know that your light shines brighter than theirs and they acknowledge your value but they are just not big enough to say it lest they are exposed. ) For any contributions to this column, send your piece that is no longer than 500 words to to Jabulani.Dlamini@volksblad.com or call 051-404-7910.

Wisdom is not in hiding your age, but in learning the most important lesson in the years you have already lived. The most important lesson is how to be in right standing with the one lending you life. Ecclesiastes 12:7. Many are not even excited about being alive at this time of the year simply because their dreams did not come true. No bonus at work or they won’t have anything to eat on Christmas Day. The question is, what is more important in life? Is it possessions or life itself? Reflect on that. Your dreams could have come true, but what if you lost your life, what good is a dream to you? I personally want to thank you, dear reader, for reading my articles throughout the year. Many lives were transformed. We have received letters from prisoners requesting Bibles and books simply because they read the articles and many people have been saved.

We have seen marriages saved. We get joy from serving a true living Jesus Christ. Patients in hospitals have testified to the goodness of the Lord Jesus. Those of you going on holiday by car or bus, I pray for safety over you in the name of Jesus Christ. I cover all roads with the blood of Jesus Christ, I pray for your cars. Zero tolerance for electricity theft A ZERO-TOLERANCE approach to electricity theft is in full swing in the Free State, seeing a clampdown on electricity thieves resulting in fines, disconnections and criminal investigations. Through Operation Khanyisa, a national campaign aimed at fighting electricity theft, a Customer Compliance Programme is being rolled out in the province, having started in Welkom in September this year, followed by Selosesha in Thaba Nchu a month later. The programme is aimed at taking a much stronger stance against electricity

thieves across the country and across all customer sectors. Operation Khanyisa’s Customer Compliance Programme combines meter auditing, detection and investigation, customer education and awareness in an integrated roll-out targeting hot spots with high energy and revenue losses. The meter audits in the province started in Thabong, Welkom, in September and are still rolling out. The Eskom audit teams are accompanied by investigators who follow up immediately with customers who are found to have

engaged in electricity theft, to uncover information related to the electricity theft committed. Such customers are fined, disconnected, have to pay a reconnection fee and could be required to repay the revenue the utility lost, calculated for the period of illegal power consumption. A final warning is issued to illegal customers, and the information uncovered is followed up to identify, arrest and prosecute those who render the illegal electricity services. The Thabong and Selosesha audits have to date led to the issuing of over R700 000

in tamper fines and the clearing of more than 14 000 illegal prepaid electricity units from customer meters in the audited areas. The meter auditing is followed by the customer education phase of the programme where locally recruited and trained Operation Khanyisa agents visit customers in the area to drive awareness and education on the legal, safe and efficient use of electricity. The education phase kicked off with door-to-door visits in Thabong from 24 November and will continue through to mid-December. The Customer Compliance Programme is rolling out in close liaison and partnership with local municipalities and ward councillors. According to Maboe Maphaka, senior manager for Energy Trading and Sales Forecasting at Eskom, the approach has yielded remarkable results during its pilot implementation in Limpopo, seeing 137 000 customers in the province now buying electricity legally, resulting in R34 million per month in revenue being unlocked. In addition to this, some R8 million’s worth of tamper fines and reconnection fees were secured, and around a million illegal prepaid units were cleared off customers’ meters. As a result of these operations, customers came forward with information on suspects who render the electricity theft services to them, uncovering 33 suspects and leading to 16 cases being placed on the court roll thus far in various towns in Limpopo. Maphaka confirmed that the customer compliance roll-out in Thabong and Selosesha would continue while preparations were underway to commence interventions in the Dihlabeng Local Municipality in the Eastern Free State. He emphasised the importance of the public’s assistance in the fight against electricity theft, a crime that costs the country approximately R7,5 billion every year. Maphaka called on South Africans to continue reporting electricity theft anonymously to Crime Line by sending tip-offs via SMS to 32211 (R1/SMS).

The choir, now consisting of 30 singers, will host the event to raise funds for old-age homes and orphanages. “What ignited the passion back for us to do it again was the lack of social responsibility amongst individuals to those who are disadvantaged – the orphanages and old-age homes that depend on charities if they are lucky to benefit,” Zamikhaya Moni, public relations officer for the choir, says. According to Moni, they wish to make this event a mega festival that can raise enough funds to put a smile on the faces of the needy. “Our aim also is to use the money earned and organise a special Christmas for those that will be benefiting and buy school uniforms, hence we are currently collecting all kinds of clothes to assist should we not make enough money,” he said. Although last year’s event was considered a success, Moni says it could have been better had it not been for the lack of

funding, but this and other issues of concern have been dealt with. “We hope that this event can be used as a weapon to fight indignity in our societies. “It’s always heart-breaking in January when children have to go back to school. Not everyone can afford to buy new school uniforms. “We currently have one sponsor. We hopefully will get funding since we still need sponsors. We will appreciate any form of support that we can get to help and ensure the success of the event,” Bongi Sithole, choir secretary, says. On Sunday, Sithole says they are expect-

fact that some aged parents are abused by their beloved children. They don’t go to these institutions willingly, but because of circumstances beyond their control,” Sithole says. “At the moment we are only doing it in December with the intention that if we get funding we could manage to do it twice a year, maybe around winter for blankets and other things that can be of good use during those chilly days, like maybe soup. “We are prepared to go and sweat on stage for a good cause. We can also tour around all provinces and inspire others to do the same if it need be,” Moni says.

Choirs win big prizes

WINNERS of the 2014 Old Mutual National Choir Festival received more than they bargained for as the National Lottery Board gave the competition a boost by tripling the prize money to over R1 million. The winners were announced at the Durban International Convention Centre on Sunday. The Voices of the Nation were crowned winners of the large category, the Best Choice Piece and the Best Western Piece and bagged R158 000. They impressed the judges over 12 other choirs in the toughest competition in the festival’s history. The Gauteng Choristers came second and took home R90 000 plus R30 000 for the Best African Piece, while the Zwelitsha Adult Choir achieved a respectable third place with prize money totalling R80 000. “We are over the moon,” exclaimed Xolani Ngqasana, the conductor of the Voices of the Nation. “It has taken countless hours of rehearsals and tremendous sacrifice to achieve this result.” The Joyful Harmonies from the Western Cape won the Standard Category and pocketed R74 000 while the Bel Canto Singers came second and the Serumula Performing Arts Academy was third. Choirs were judged on their presentations of prescribed pieces and their own songs. Prescribed songs in the large category included Gloria, Madiba, Ingwe Indla Ngamabala and Kyrie. Bayethe Mandela, Credo, Der Sterne Hellster, Ingqwele and O Glucklich Paar/Singt were prescribed for the standard category. The unplaced choirs received a consolation prize of R20 000 each. ing a large number of their guests of honour which are those little children and old people that will be benefiting from this event. “Some of us truly understand the need of a father figure in children’s lives. As most of us grew up without them. We want to play a huge part in these children’s upbringing. “Also do not forget our old people who are abandoned by their very own children and who now find themselves in old-age homes. “We don’t disagree with them being at the old-age home, but we are aware of the

years after they had beaten the bizhub Highveld Lions by eight wickets in Sunday’s entertaining semi-final match-up at Bidvest Wanderers in Johannesburg, while the Cobras defeated the Chevrolet Warriors by nine wickets in the other semi-final. “It is going to be a difficult match for both sides, but one we are determined to win. “The Cobras are a good side hence they are in the final, and so are we. So it’s going to be a big challenge to beat them,” Sarel Cilliers, Knights coach, told Express. “We are going there with our full squad of 13 players. We have made no changes to the team that has been playing in the competition so far. “If we get things right on the night, I’m positive we’ll lift the trophy. We have prepared well for the final and the players are oozing confidence,” said Cilliers. The Knights will pin their hopes on Rudi Second, Reeja Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw and Malusi Siboto. Meanwhile, as was the case with all the other televised Ram Slam T20 Challenge matches this year, Friday’s final will afford fans the last opportunity to participate in the Win a Million Competition, where South African citizens over the age of 18 can win a share of R1 million by taking a clean one-handed catch. Currently, only two fans have qualified for this fantastic prize. They are Bosman Puren and Kallie van der Merwe, who have both managed to catch a six with one hand during the previous games. ) The Express staff wish the Chevrolet Knights the best of luck in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge final on Friday. We hope that they will bring the trophy to the Free State because they are a great side with talented players.

FORMER Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol has told KickOff.com that he has been receiving calls from the club’s supporters to return to the club. The former Dutch international led the Buccaneers to a historic treble victory – MTN8, League and Nedbank Cup – in 2011, but then left the club when his contract was not renewed. Pirates won another treble the following season, but since then have also employed Julio Leal, Augusto Palacios, Roger de Sa and Vladimir Vermezovic. Following Vermezovic’s resignation last week, KickOff.com has been inundated with calls for “the Pink Shirt” to return, but Krol says no one has officially contacted him. “Once a Pirate, always a Pirate . . . that is how it will always be,” Krol told KickOff.com. “I love South Africa, I love the PSL, and Orlando Pirates will always have a special place in my heart – it’s no secret that I would love to go back there. “A lot of supporters have been calling me, but no one from the club. It has always been talks and nothing concrete. “The same goes for the SuperSport United job – it was all talk and nothing happened in the end.” For now, Krol is preparing his Libyan side Al-Ahli for the CAF Champions League. “Right now we are just preparing; it’s still early days. That is where my focus is right now.” – Kickoff.com

Government ‘favours international miscreants’ THEUNIS BOTHA, leader of the Christian Democratic Party (CDP): THE media release issued by Pres. Jacob Zuma, after his bilateral talks with Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian authority, is dangerously one-sided, and flies in the face of our government’s explanation as to why South Africa voted against a motion in the UN’s Human Rights Council condemning the IS’s atrocities. South Africa then explained that the motion was ‘one-sided’. With this release, South Africa sets the pace when it comes to one-sidedness. The media statement contains too many

factual misrepresentations to cover, but the statement on the Al Aqsa Mosque is a good example. Israel does not control the mosque – that is being done by a Jordanian-based organisation and the matter has recently been solved in a meeting with the Jordanian king. The statement also does not reflect the complex position of Jerusalem, which has a different position to the West Bank and which was broken when Jordan occupied Jerusalem, and then annexed it, contravening the original arrangement. On the other hand, South Africa strongly objected to an adopted motion to charge

New name only hides failures PATRICIA KOPANE, DA leader in the Free State: THE process for the proposed name change of Harrismith to Intabazwe is not only irregular and illegal, it is also a desperate attempt by the ANC to deflect valid criticism on its poor record of governance in the municipality. So desperate has the ANC become that it now unashamedly resort to cosmetic interventions to hide its failures. A notice was placed in Volksblad last week indicating the intention to change the name of Harrismith to Intabazwe, the name of a suburb adjacent to Harrismith. The notice only allowed for a four-day window period where residents could lodge objections or make comments. The closing date for comments was set for Monday. This process is illegal. According to the provisions of the South African Geographical Names Council Act (No 118 of 1998) and the relevant regulations governing name changes, at least 14 days’ notice must be given. What makes the process even more irregular is that the public participation meeting scheduled for yesterday was to be held in Intabazwe and not in the town which is the subject of the name change, as required within the legislation. The ANC launched an attempted name change for Harrismith in 2005 which was rejected outright by all the residents of the Greater Harrismith area, thousands of whom signed a petition to keep the name of Harrismith. The costs involved with name changes are staggering; costs the ANC-governed Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality, which owes Eskom in excess of R600 million in unpaid dues, can ill afford. Furthermore, the delivery of basic services within the Harrismith area are almost non-existent, unemployment and poverty is entrenched and roads are in complete disrepair. This blatant attempt by the Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC, Mathabo Leeto, to divert attention away from the real issues of poverty, unemployment and collapsed service delivery, is once again being rejected by the community. We are confident that the residents of the Greater Harrismith area will reject this proposed name change like they have done so previously. Already thousands of residents have signed a petition and various community organisations are lodging objections. Today, residents will attend the meeting in numbers to reject this proposal. The people of Harrismith demand good governance and the delivery of quality basic services, not cosmetic name changes that will have no positive impact on the lives of the community. The DA will also make its objections heard.

North Korea with crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court, and abstained from voting. To put it bluntly, South Africa’s reputation on international morality favours the international miscreants. Considering the onslaught against Woolworths and possibly others to follow, it would appear as though South Africa’s international policies are determined by a Muslim minority, which is also developing in domestic pressure. But where it concerns its own people, it would appear that government is at war with certain minorities. The reaction of a South African diplomat

to several submissions to the UN’s Forum for Minority Issues is a crying shame. Not only were the words and intentions of the submissions heavily distorted by the diplomat, but the diplomat clearly ventured into party politics – with tax payers’ money. The diplomat even suggested that allowing the delegations to speak was a mistake – whilst the forum is intended for minorities. No good could be read into a government’s efforts to silence the voices of minorities. This also flies into the face of international law.

“CHANGED OUR LIVES”

Mr. P Hendrikson bought this lovely house 3- months after attending S. Zhaki's 1-day special prayer.

Mrs. K Gumede had no job, but after attending S. Zhaki's special prayer meeting in Bloem-CBD, I got this new permanent job a few weeks back.

I met this powerful man S. Zhaki on a T.V. program Before I had suffered for years and tried many people for help but all failed. I could not believe it when he showed me my enemies in form of a dream and whatever they were doing to pull me down. Every single detail he showed me about my enemies in the form of a dream and whatever they were doing to pull me down. S. Zhaki accurately read my fortune and told me all problems without me speaking a single word to him. Within 6 days after his prayers, my husband left his girlfriend and came back to me plus my enemies approached me and confessed the bad things they did to me. Even though other have failed to deliver to your expectations, this may be your last chance to breakthrough no matter what problem you're facing ! Consultaion Fee: R100.

The Cheetahs, who have had the German sports apparel giant as their kit sponsor since October 2010, will be hoping for greater success in their new kits. Now, following the launch of their new uniform, Naka Drotské’s side will be looking forward to wearing it in a competitive game for the first time when they travel to Durban for a date with the Sharks in the Super Rugby opener on Saturday, 14 February 2015, at 17:05. Brett Bellinger, Puma South Africa’s marketing director, said the Cheetahs’ new jersey focused on the team’s two distinct colours – orange and poublou turquoise, rounded off with purple numbers and trimmings – but with a shift to orange for the home kit. “The latest Puma kit for the Toyota Cheetahs is something of a landmark,” Bellinger said. “Traditionally the home kit has been marked by a largely white-based treatment with the away kit being orange. “Puma and the management at the Toyota Cheetahs decided that we should start to introduce orange as the base colour for the home kits and we have done so in a gradual manner – this being represented by the fading from white to orange in the home kit,” he explained.

Kobus le Roux, sales and marketing executive for the Totoya Cheetahs, said his side would use both sets of kits during their home matches in Bloemfontein. “Even though the orange jersey will be labelled as ‘home’ and the turquoise jersey as ‘away’, we will play with both

jerseys throughout the competition as required. “This means our home fans will see us in both jerseys in Bloemfontein and we will also use both jerseys on tour,” said Le Roux. “The new slick faded design makes for maximum brand exposure to our sponsors

and maximum supporter loyalty to our fans,” he added. The new Toyota Cheetahs jerseys are already available at Puma stores and selected Puma retailers countrywide – both retail for R699. For more information, fans can visit www.puma.com or call 021-551-0832.

TESTIMONY

Mr and Mrs Thabo My last resort to bring back my lost lover. Me and my wife Bridget had given up after losing my job and struggling to keep up with my car and house payment. I had to change schools for my children from private schools to government schools because financially we were not stable anymore, but thanks to my in-law who gave me this woman of God's number, she helped me to turn my life around financially by giving me a magic ring which brought back hope into my life. It cost me only R800 and for the first time in my life I went into a casino with my wife and we used our magic to hit a jackpot. Now my house and car are paid off and my children are back in private schools - now life is so wonderful, so in case you are looking for the best healer, please look no more.

Zola, others do CSA proud } Ruan Bruwer “A FEATHER in the cap for Free State Cricket, not just for myself.” Zola Thamae, who was named the Administrator of the Year at the South African Sports Awards held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on 30 November, says she is very humbled by and grateful for the award. “I am what I am because of other people who believe in me,” she says. Thamae, the first female president in the history of South African Cricket, made an immediate impression after being chosen in August last year. The period in which judging was done, stretched from October 2013 to October 2014. “This is a very prestigious award to receive. What this also says to me is that I can do more. “One often only gets recognised after you are dead, so it is great to receive this while I am still alive.” The trophy will be on display in her house, but she first had to take it to work because her colleagues wanted to see it. According to her, she did not experience extra pressure when she started working in a male-dominated sport. “I worked very closely with my predecessor, Leon Crawley, who showed me around. Also, as the vice-president (for four years) I could start to prepare myself.” Thamae has come a long way in Free

‘We take great pride in the achievements of these individuals and I extend our heartiest congratula tions to all of them on behalf of the CSA f a m i l y.’ – Haroon Lorgat, CSA chief executive State Cricket. She started there in 1996. In 2007 she became the first woman to serve on the board of Cricket South Africa. From 2004 to 2009 she acted as the manager of the Protea Women’s Cricket team. “I would say in my first 15 months I put an emphasis on youth cricket and transformation.” Meanwhile, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has congratulated Thamae, its players and administrators – both past and present – who were also honoured at the awards function. They include Ray Mali, former CSA and International Cricket Council (ICC) presi-

dent, AB de Villiers, the Castle Lager Proteas One Day International (ODI) captain, and the South African u.19 team that won the ICC Cricket World Cup u.19 title earlier this year. Mali received the Steve Tshwete Lifetime Achievement Award, while De Villiers and the u.19 team walked away with the Ministerial Excellence Award and the Team of the Year Award respectively. “We take great pride in the achievements of these individuals and I extend our heartiest congratulations to all of them on behalf of the CSA family,” Haroon Lorgat, CSA chief executive, says. “As we reach the end of the year we can reflect on and be proud of the many good things that have happened across so many areas of our operations. “With the South African season now in full swing we can look forward to further highlights with the arrival of the West Indies team in the country for their full-length tour across all three formats, the final of the Ram Slam T20 Challenge for our franchises and our desire to achieve success at next year’s ICC World Cup in Australasia. “These are indeed exciting and vibrant times for South African cricket.” ) For more sports TOP AWARD: Nokuzola Thamae, president of Free State Cricket, stories, visit was honoured with the Administrator of the Year Award at the 2014 www.expressSouth African Sports Awards. Things in my life went from good to worse in a very short time. My love live, financial problems jealousy, my husband’s family were all against me. Luckily I came across Sonia through a friend. She helped me and showed me my enemies through a mirror for only R200. She did miracles in my life. She told me all my problems without mentioning anything to her. She showed me the people who worked hard to see me suffering some of which were my friends and relatives. She performed a special prayer, washed away my bad luck and cleansed my home. Gave me a love potion with a ring for my financial problems in less than five days, my husband was always by my side and my enemies confessed and asked for forgiveness. Come and visit me at Bayswater.
