Huge honour for group Nominated for remix of hit song in Metro FM Music Awards

} Sidwell Guduka THAPELO MOHOLO, a lead vocalist of The Fraternity, said he was ecstatic about his group’s nomination to one of the music industry’s biggest spectacles – the Metro FM Music Awards. The Bloemfontein-based hip-hop group has been nominated for the remix of its song Bheka Mina Ngedwa, the song that has been receiving high rotation on both local and national radio stations. The Fraternity will compete in the Best Remix of the Year category against Cassper Nyovest ft. Talib Kweli (Doc Shebeleza Remix), Uhuru ft. Donald, Speedy, Wiz Kid (Ungowami Remix), Duncan ft. AKA, Professor, Mampitsha (Tsiki Tsiki Remix) and Naim Kay (Ngiyavuma Remix). “We are ecstatic as a group. We feel

blessed and humbled. This is like a dream come true to us. “We have always watched these awards on television so it feels great to be recognised and appreciated for the work that we do,” Moholo told Express. “We didn’t get nominated by default. We have made a diligent effort to ensure that the song was brilliant. I really believe that we worked hard on this album because we wanted to make our mark in the music industry. I work with amazing people and I want to promise the people of the Free State that our best is yet to come,” he said. Moholo said his group fancied its chances at this year’s highly-contested awards. “Any artist would want to go home with an award after being nominated, so to win it would be great. We are calculating our

chances of scooping this award. “We are competing against the likes of Cassper Nyovest and AKA in our category. They are strong competitors, but I’m positive we will win it. If you look at them they are also nominated in other categories. So their votes will be spread and that would give us a chance,” he explained. Asked what was the secret of the success behind the song Bheka Mina Ngedwa, Moholo said there was no secret, but they worked hard to ensure that their music was appreciated by their fans. “The response has been amazing. We truly appreciate the support we get from our fans. They have a deep understanding of our music and we are nothing without them,” he said. Moholo has revealed that they had launched a campaign in an attempt to get

more votes that would eventually win them the award. “We are visiting high schools across the province to ask learners to vote for us. Not only do we want to win this award for the people of the Free State, we actually want to put our province on the map. So we urge every single person in the province to vote for us,” he appealed. The awards ceremony will be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban on Saturday, 28 February. ) To vote for The Fraternity, dial *120*588#, press 1 to continue, select Single Album Category (option 2), Best Remix (option 4), select next (option 0), select The Fraternity X Bheka Mina Ngedwa. ) To listen to Bheka Mina Ngedwa, visit www.express-news.co.za.

Literary debut for Masasa } George Rampai MATEBOHO MASASA, an acclaimed sign language interpreter who works for the Free State’s Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, has made her debut as a writer with a groundbreaking Sotho drama called Mehwabadi Ya Lerato. The official launch of this book will be held at the Protea Hotel Bloemfontein Central in the Free State capital on Saturday, 28 February. It is expected that the book will be reviewed by the well-known writer, Tsietsi Winston Mohapi, who has churned out an impressive body of works that are studied in South African schools. In an exclusive interview with Express, Masasa explained why she chose the title, Mehwabadi Ya Lerato. Roughly translated into English it means “The scars of love”. “The underlying theme in the book is the scars caused by a love affair gone wrong. Those emotional scars are usually caused by what one thought was right at that time even though it felt wrong,” she said “The book was inspired by the kind of lifestyle led by today’s youth. “I scrutinised the consequences of their becoming derailed from their initial purpose of bettering their lives. This happens while they are enjoying the freedom of being alone, away from their parents, which eventually brings scars that can change a person’s character if these things are

not confronted or dealt with,” she said. Masasa revealed that helping her sister to write a poem turned her life around. “In 2010, when my sister Tumi Kuenane (who is a poet) was given a task to write a drama for the youth at the church, I had to assist her. I enjoyed myself so much that I started writing my own dramas and poems,’’ she recalled. Asked who her favourite Sesotho authors are, Masasa reeled out the following names: Dr K.P.D. Maphalla, Dr Mathene Mahanke, Tsietsie Winston Mohapi, Seeiso Mpiti (young poet) and Mamothibedi Sehlabo. The fact that accolades for these literary giants are thin on the ground worries Masasa. “It’s a pity we blacks do not take a cue from what happens overseas. We should also start naming all the libraries after our local writers, such as Dr Maphalla, Suzan Sefatsa, K.E. Ntsane, Lechesa Segoete and many others.” A literary activist and deputy director at the Sesotho Literary Museum, Tseliso Masolane, described Masasa as a selfless go-getter. “She is a young, self-driven lady who a few years ago was just encouraging some of her budding writer friends to hone their skills. And today, she surprised herself with the wonderful gift that marks the beginning of her writing dream,’’ Masolane said. ‘‘Though I have not had access to the book, I am hopeful that through the guidance of Moabasesotho, the book should prove to be be an entertaining read.’’

NEWS

Empower victims of crime SOUTH AFRICA is a crime-riddled society with a prison population of more than 150 000 inmates serving time in 240 correctional facilities. For every offender, there are primary and secondary victims of crime who suffered traumatic experiences. Unfortunately, victims of crime are not at liberty to dictate the kind of justice they deem appropriate. For most practitioners in the criminal justice system (CJS), a long prison sentence for an offender is justice enough for a victim whose rights were despicably violated. Few ever look at justice from the victim’s point of view. An offender who has been found guilty of a crime has a time frame to his sentence while a victim goes through a perennial agony, often in isolation and without professional help. I fully espouse restorative and rehabilitation measures taken by the department of justice and correctional services. Offenders have a daily threemeal routine, 24/7 state-of-the-art medical facilities, access to bursaries and professional support in the form of psychologists and social workers. The system does not care whether the victim has eaten or not. Offenders who have inflicted injury to society become part of “state property” and meticulous attention is paid to their constitutional as well as basic human rights. For a raped 21-year-old chemical engineering student, *Thato, and *Bokang, a 32-year-old chartered accountant and car-hijack victim, the fact that their offender *Thabiso (28) has been sentenced to 15 years with a possibility of parole is a travesty of justice. Unlike Thabiso, access to immediate medical facilities is a privilege for Thato who stays at Ga-Mashashane in rural Limpopo. After being shot and para-

My view Lehlohonolo Nyetanyane Social observer lysed, Bokang will never be able to drive himself nor go to a bathroom unassisted. Upon his early release, Thabiso would have completed a diploma in IT at Bokang’s expense as a tax-payer, be able to secure employment and buy a car. Paradoxically, Thabiso will live happily ever after without being legally liable to compensate his victims. These are typical factors that propel crime victims to seek vindictive justice. All role-players in the CJS chain benefit everytime a crime is committed: a police officer gets awarded for arresting a high-profile suspect; a prosecutor is promoted for securing a maximum custodial sentence; a defence lawyer receives a handsome fee; a judge is honoured for handing down a heavy sentence and a correctional officer gets accolades for a successful rehabilitation process and escape-free incidents. A victim gets nothing. I think there should be a law that compels offenders to compensate their victims upon release. Victim-offender dialogue launched by former minister Sbu Ndebele in 2012 focuses mainly on confession by an offender and forgiveness by victim. Nothing in the form of financial empowerment to a victim by an offender is ever considered. *Pseudonyms ) You make a valid point in your argument in chief but your suggestion would have to be approached with caution and backed by proper research. - Ed.

Battlefield in many realms } Past. Mutombo Kumwimba

When Satan attacked Jesus in Matthew chapter 4, he fought Jesus with the Word of God. But the only reason why the Word of God could not and will never work for Satan is because he will never be a doer of the Word. But when we see Jesus quoting the Word, Satan became paralysed and left with his tail between his legs. Dear readers, the Word is the only weapon of mass destruction toward the kingdom of darkness. But before It works for you, you need to obey it. Declare war today and fight with the word of God and you will win. ) To hear more and learn more of these kinds of messages and warfare, visit us at the New Horizon Ministry at Joe Solomon School in Heidedal every Sunday from 09:00. You can also SMS your prayer request to 071-214-9404. Shalom.

EPHESIANS 6:12: Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms . . . Anything that is invisible, is permanent. We are fighting against spirit. Being a child of God and knowing this will force you to declare war against poverty in your life; war against constant nightmares, limitations in progress, rise and fall in life, premature death and the inherited bondage of sicknesses. All these are products manufactured in the corridors of Hell to torment children of God. Victorious people are those who are willing to pray. The weapons we use are not physical or verbal, but the Word of God.

My husband is back after 15 years of divorce. Mama Asiha showed me my enemies in a mirror. But now we are together again and very happy. I almost lost hope when my husband asked for a divorce. Living without my husband for 15 years was not easy. I had to support myself financially and consulted top healers, who didn't help. I heard of mama Asiha on the radio and on television, my workmate he had helped with my financial problems. She told me everything that was happening in my life before I said anything to her. She took out all the witchcraft, showed me the 'mirror in a dish of water'. I saw my husband's girlfriend . She prayed for me with her special powers . My enemies confessed now and I'm also now promoted at work . I don't know how to thank mama Asiha, but to make it public. With her magic ring she can protect homes from bad evils.

TESTIMONY

Mr and Mrs Thabo My last resort to bring back my lost lover. Me and my wife Bridget had given up after losing my job and struggling to keep up with my car and house payment. I had to change schools for my children from private schools to government schools because financially we were not stable anymore, but thanks to my in-law who gave me this woman of God's number, she helped me to turn my life around financially by giving me a magic ring which brought back hope into my life. It cost me only R800 and for the first time in my life I went into a casino with my wife and we used our magic to hit a jackpot. Now my house and car are paid off and my children are back in private schools - now life is so wonderful, so in case you are looking for the best healer, please look no more.

Hussey to work with Proteas THE Proteas have reportedly approached former Australian batsman Michael Hussey to help them during the upcoming Cricket World Cup. According to the Cape Times, South Africa’s coach, Russell Domingo, has drawn up a schedule that could see Hussey working with the team for anywhere between six and 14 days during different periods of the tournament. The World Cup, to be played in Australia and New Zealand, runs from 14 February to 29 March. Hussey (39) is yet to confirm his availability, but Domingo is looking to secure his services before the team departs for Australasia on Wednesday (04/02). Hussey, nicknamed Mr Cricket, played 79 tests for Australia, scoring 6 235 runs at an average of 51,52. He played 185 ODIs, scoring 5 442 runs at an average of 48,15. I visited traditional healers, but with no help. Then I heard of Maria Linda on a radio talk show and my neighbour whom he helped and rescued from black magic. I visited mama Linda and paid R200. He told me about my future and my marriage problems. He put a mirror in a dish with water and I saw the faces of my enemies and my husband's girlfriend. He prayed for me and gave me holy water and oil to wash myself. After two days I saw results, my enemies confessed their wrong doings towards me and my husband left his girlfriend and come back home. I'm now happy after visiting mama Linda .

HE MADE MY BUSINESS TO GROW AND MY FINANCE TO BE CONTROLLED: I have my own business for 15 years doing well and making a lot of savings, but things began turning bad and started registering losses. My life began to fall apart, the banks were after my properties for the loans I had failed to pay. My wife and children left as I could no longer take care of them. I visited many healers, but with no positive results. I heard of MR JACOB who had helped so many people, I visited him to read my past and future - he charged me R150. I was shocked to find out that my nephew was doing the black magic on me. JACOB cleansed me and a month later I began to see progress in my business with lots of savings. Am now happy with my family which had left me because I couldn't support them anymore. THANKS TO MR JACOB who saved my life.

My husband stayed with his girlfriend for 10 years. Without him I struggled to support myself and could not even pay our children's school fees.

Things in my life went from good to worse in a very short time. My love live, financial problems jealousy, my husband’s family were all against me. Luckily I came across Sonia through a friend. She helped me and showed me my enemies through a mirror for only R200. She did miracles in my life. She told me all my problems without mentioning anything to her. She showed me the people who worked hard to see me suffering some of which were my friends and relatives. She performed a special prayer, washed away my bad luck and cleansed my home. Gave me a love potion with a ring for my financial problems in less than five days, my husband was always by my side and my enemies confessed and asked for forgiveness. Come and visit me at Bayswater.

He normally takes part in short-distance events. “Preparations are going pretty well for this event and I’m ready to hit the road. “I’m positive I will give a good account of myself come Saturday.
