Doctor botches surgery Man left with permanent damage after muscle is severed

} Tladi Moloi QWAQWA. – People often visit community clinics or hospitals for help hoping for a cure. This, however, was not the case for Motsamai Ramphadime (38) from the Namahadi Village in Qwaqwa. Ramphadime is now disabled and will never be able to use his left hand again. A muscle in his middle finger was allegedly severed by a doctor at the Elizabeth Ross Hospital in Qwaqwa. “The doctor immediately made me aware that he had made a mistake and told me to leave the hospital and to never come back. The doctor vanished into thin air and some say he has been transferred to Johannesburg. “He said I should go to the local clinic and ask for help. I told him that the clinic had referred me to the hospital. He ignored me and left me in my hospital bed,” he said. He said the doctor had taken his file which he had never seen after the incident. “I asked for my file, but they did not have it,” he said. Ramphadime said he had gone to the hospital in 2012 for help. “I was chopping wood at home and a piece got stuck in my finger. I went to the Namahadi Clinic and they told me that I should go to hospital because they would have to operate to remove it.” A fuming Ramphadime said management at the hospital had been aware of his situation, because he had reported it to them after it had happened. “I went to report the matter to Bongi Mthimkulu, the acting chief executive officer (CEO). I asked her what was going to happen with my damaged hand. She promised to attend to the matter and to call him but she never did. “Every time I go to the hospital looking for her, I am told that she is working at the Manapo Regional Hospital,” he said. Mthimkulu said she was not aware of the incident. “I don’t remember anyone coming to my office with that problem. “If it did happen, it must have been a while ago. What I do know, is that I attend to every complaint, whether it is big or small. “If a patient is injured, we follow it up until the offenders have been dealt with,” she said.

She said she had been very busy since becoming manager of the Manapo Regional Hospital, but added that this would not make her shy away from the community. “I am always available. My secretary is always there and if I am needed for urgent matters, she calls me on my cell phone,” she said. ) Have you experienced a similar incident at the Elizabeth Ross Hospital? Molotsi, who was the municipal manager at the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality, comes in to fill the boots of Thabiso Tsoaeli who left Dihlabeng to take over the chief financial officer (CFO) position at the Matjhabeng Local Municipality in Welkom a few months ago. Molotsi had worked as the municipal manager at the district municipality from November 2012. He is a formidable character, multi-talented and a specialist in local government and related fields. Molotsi, who was born in Phiritona in Heilbron, has previously worked for various organisations such as the Free State Liquor Authority, Northern Free State District Municipality (now Fezile Dabi District Municipality) as the chief executive officer (CEO) and later as the municipal manager, also as CEO for Water Sanitation South Africa (WSSA) (Pty) Ltd, a private company based in Bryanston, Johannesburg, and contracted to Maluti-a-Phofung Water (PTY) LTD. He was also appointed as administrator at which was formerly the RaMmulotsi Local Municipality in Viljoenskroon, and also a few years ago as an administrator at the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality. Angry residents take stand against rapist } Thabo Mokoena MOEDING. – “No bail for rapist!” This was one of the messages written on placards in the hands of the fuming residents of the Moeding Village and the learners of the Pheta Intermediate School. They recently gathered outside the Tsheseng Magistrate’s Court and united in discouraging the court to grant bail to a rape suspect (35). The suspect, who faces charges of rape and kidnapping, was denied bail last week Monday. He is expected to appear before the same court on 24 November. He has been accused of allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl and her 54-year-old grandmother. According to Sgt Mmako Mophiring, the suspect arrived on the grandmother’s property on 16 October at approximately 20:00. It is alleged that the suspect arrived at

the victims’ home and threatened them with a panga. He forced them to leave the house and go with him. It is further alleged that he took them to the nearby river and raped them there. After the rape, he instructed the grandmother to go home to her grandchildren. The community went out to search for him, but instead came across the girl. She told them that she had escaped from the hands of an evil man. “The police went there and arrested him,” Mophiring said. Tladi Yvonne, principal of the Pheta Intermediate School, said what had happened to the girl was very painful. “The accused has a child in this school but he is the one who raped another child. We must now allow the legal system to run its course. The victim is doing well, but this is going to affect her negatively,” Yvonne said. “He must rot in jail.”

‘I am asking people to vote for me, not on ly because I will be famous when I win it, but also to put the Free State on the map. The victory will be for the station and the people of the Free State.’ – Nthabiseng Mangojane It is the first time that Mangojane enters a competition since she has joined the radio industry. “I was confident that my name would be called among the nominees. My name is now on the list and for me to be called to the podium I need the community’s support. I am confident that they will vote for me,” she says. Mangojane started working as a presenter in 2009 and since then this woman with the golden voice has never looked back. Growing up in the dusty streets of Tseki Village in Qwaqwa, Mangojane never dreamt of becoming a radio presenter until she became a poet. “The idea of working at a radio station never crossed my mind while I was at school. I wanted to be a forensic pathologist but that never happened. “We used to write poetry at school and we visited Qwaqwa Radio for their afternoon drive show called Seotlong where they gave us a chance to read our poems on air. Radio won my heart then and I started pursuing my new dream,” she says.

Times to tune in to Nthabi NTHANI MANGOJANE is currently hosting two shows at the station namely Melodi ya Meso and Good News. Melodi ya Meso is a music show which is aired on Mondays and Wednesdays between 01:00 and 05:00. Good News is a spiritual show on Sundays between 05:00 and 09:00.

Teamwork can eradicate crime PHUTHADITJHABA. – The Phuthaditjhaba and Vrede Cluster, Crime Intelligence in collaboration with the community, has made successful arrests. A total of 64 suspects were arrested in various towns and stolen livestock, firearms, vehicles and dagga were seized. The information which led to the successful recovery of items and the arrest of suspects was from other police units such as the Phuthaditjhaba Tactical Response Team, Stock Theft Unit, K9 Unit, South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Public Order Police and Vrede Crime Prevention Unit. Sgt Mmako Mophiring, the police spokesperson, said the operations were conducted in various quarters assisting different police stations with disruptive behaviour, livestock theft, people dealing in dagga, illegal firearms and stolen vehicles. “Between July and September 2014 this resulted in 64 suspects being arrested for crimes ranging from murder, business robberies, fraud, housebreaking and theft, theft of livestock, theft of motor vehicles and dealing in dagga. The suspects were arrested in towns like Qwaqwa, Warden, Memel and Vrede,” he said. He said during the operations 20 head of cattle and five sheep to the value of R30 000 had been recovered, as well as three firearms (Norinco) and a police 9 mm with ammunition. “They later recovered four suspected stolen vehicles including

Mophiring said that also included dagga with an estimated value of R50 000. He said recovered stolen property included a plasma television, home entertainment theatre, cell phones, two laptops, speakers, blankets and a bag. “All the arrested suspects have appeared in their various jurisdictional courts and suspected stolen goods such as livestock, vehicles and cars have been handed over to the lawful owners. Other items such as firearms and ammunition have been kept as evidence to be used in court,” he said. Lt Gen. Thebethe Mpembe, the Free State provincial commissioner, said: “It is evident that good relations between the police and community will always bring about positive results and make a huge impact in the decrease of various crimes. We urge the community to keep their trust in us and give us information so that justice can prevail. Let’s be victors of crime and not victims.”

Little ones treated

BETHLEHEM. – A group of 40 children of the Smiling Little Faces Day-care Centre and the Flinkdink Study Centre were recently treated to a shopping spree, courtesy of Jet and the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation (NCCF). For many of the children this was the first time they had ever set foot in a mall, let alone been given the opportunity to choose their own new clothes and be treated to lunch afterwards. This is part of a nation-wide shopping spree taking place in 11 Jet stores in eight provinces over the next four weeks, and resulting in more than 500 children receiving new clothes. Nashua has spent approximately R54 000 in Jet gift cards thus far, with the Nashua franchises in each region supplementing any shortfall for the shopping sprees in their areas. After all 40 children had chosen outfits, they were treated

to lunch at the Frontier Inn and Casino, the perfect end to the day. “The response from the children is overwhelming,” said Helen Fraser, NCCF director. Fraser said many of them had never received new clothes. “The joy these children experience through the simple act of being able to choose new clothes is a wonderful thing to see.” The Jet and Nashua Shopping Spree initiative began seven years ago when Fraser approached Jet’s holding company, Edcon, requesting any clothing that they could spare for children under the NCCF’s care. That initial conversation sparked the idea to invite children of the orphanages and schools that received aid from the NCCF to a Jet store in their area where they would be given the opportunity to choose an outfit for themselves, and be

treated to lunch afterwards. Since it was established, the shopping spree budget has increased from R60 000 to R120 000 and the number of Jet stores involved has increased from one to 11. “Jet Club is very proud to be able to contribute towards such a worthwhile and heartwarming initiative. What we never anticipated was how much our staff and all other parties involved would enjoy these annual shopping sprees with the kids. It’s true what they say – giving really is better than receiving,” said Marcelle Wilson, Jet Club manager. She said she was hoping to involve more Jet stores and charities from all over the country to take part in these shopping sprees. “With the help and support we’ve received from everyone involved thus far, I am confident that we can achieve that goal.”

Church reaches out PHUTHADITJHABA. – The House of Glory Global Church (HGGC) held an examination prayer service for all learners, from foundation phase to university level, in Qwaqwa. The Mohaladitwe Secondary School is one of the schools that attended the service and the HGGC outreach team offered a helping hand to ten disadvantaged children by donating groceries, clothes and

school stationery to them. The recipients felt encouraged to seek a relationship with Christ and be spiritually uplifted when Apostle Samuel Raboteng said that he would keep in touch with them. They also said they were inspired to perform better at school, as he had already guaranteed that he would sponsor them to further their studies.

SENYAMO. – Parents have the right to brag. “Ke waka eo. That one is mine.” Those were the words of parents when their children were called to stage to collect an award during the Mabewana Primary School’s annual awards ceremony which was held at the school on Friday. Parents were invited to witness the success of their children ahead of their exams. Monaheng Monaheng, the principal, said they were happy as the school to host the ceremony and added that it had served its purpose of motivating the learners before the final examinations. “This has been a great success. Learners who won this year did not necessarily win last year. It means that our objective of creating competition between the learners was achieved. “We want to reach the stage where we have more winners than losers,” he said. He said the achievement was the result of the good relationship between the staff and the parents. “I want to thank our parents for taking part in their children’s education. “I cannot stop thanking my

colleagues for taking their job seriously and doing their level best,” he said. Seipati Molaba, the overall winner in gr. 6 who also scooped an award for Sotho, Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Technology, said she was happy to be a winner. “I am very happy with these awards. “I did nothing special. I just

listened to the teachers in class and did the exercises when I got home. “I hope to maintain the standard. “My advice to my fellow learners is that we must not be in a hurry to go home without learning something. “Rather learn something important, something that can better your future,” she said.

Gospel show a great success TSHIAME. – Tirisano Ya Baswa, a non-profit organisation led by young people based in Tshiame B near Harrismith, hosted a gospel music show on Saturday. This was part of their annual Masakhane Charity Programme to raise funds for the Morena Tshoisi II Primary School in Makholokoeng and the Tsebong Primary School in Tshiame B. According to Lawrence Tshabalala, the programme manager, the funds that were raised during the show will be used to buy school shoes and soccer equipment that will be donated to both the schools. “The event went well, regardless of the challenges that we encountered on the day. The weather was not good, since it rained for the better part of the day, and we experienced a power failure,” said Tshabalala. “We would like to thank all the supporters for their contribution to this initiative.” He said that the initiative was part of one of the programmes of Tirisano Ya Baswa to help eradicate poverty within their community. “The organisation has changed its focus from the performing arts only. “The initiative has been improving annually and the organisation is now the champion of the game and we are proud of this achievement,” he said.

“AND we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who’ve been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NIV) “Why is life so hard?” Do you ever find yourself asking this question because you’re frustrated by circumstances in your life? Frustration is the result of living in a world that is broken by sin. You cannot avoid suffering. There will be pain, and if you are not careful, that pain can lead to bitterness. Bitterness is a poison that will eat you alive. It’s like a cancer to your heart. When you become bitter towards someone, you do not hurt that person; you only hurt yourself. It is so easy to become envious and jealous of others when life does not go the way we want it to. We begin to think: “It’s not fair. Why does that person have it so easy when life is so tough for me?” It is very easy to become resentful in a broken world. But envy and jealousy can quickly turn to bitterness, and bitterness will eat you up. How do you keep from becoming bitter? You choose. There will be pain in your life. The question is, are you going to allow it to make you a better person or a bitter person? You can moan and groan and become bitter. Or you can stay sweet in a suffering world by remembering these four things: 1. The Holy Spirit is praying for you. “[T]he Spirit himself speaks to God for us, and even begs God for us with deep feelings

The mirror Past. Ernest Mahlaba

that words cannot explain (Romans 8:26 NCV). 2. God uses everything for your good. “And we know in all things God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28 NIV). God is bigger than your enemies. He is bigger than your critics. He is bigger than your problems. And he is working it all for good in your life. 3. God wants you to succeed. “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31 NLT). God wants you to succeed in all those areas where you are failing. He is rooting for you. 4. God will give you what you need. “And since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else?” (Romans 8:32 NLT). God solved your biggest problem when he paid for all your sins, including the ones you haven’t done yet. If God cared enough to save you and give you the gift of eternal life, don’t you think he cares about the problems in your daily life? If it is big enough to worry about, it is big enough to pray about. And if you pray about it, you won’t have to worry about it. All of these things should remind you that God is good and he is in control.

Entries open for awards ENTRIES for the 2015 MTN Radio Awards are now open and the stations and individuals have a three-month window to submit examples of their finest work by 20 January (manual submissions) or 27 January (online submissions). This follows an extensive presentation roadshow at major centres around South Africa at which Lance Rothschild, the CEO of the MTN Radio Awards, detailed the key dates for the 2015 programme and highlighted some small changes in the overall programme. “I am very happy with the overall attendance at the presentations and there seems to be an increased awareness of and enthusiasm for the MTN Radio Awards,” said Rothschild. One new category was introduced for the 2015 programme, that of field news reporter. “This category was suggested to us by constituents within the industry and we feel that it will add value and generate some highly compelling entries for the adjudicators to evaluate,” he said. The rules were also changed, with some restrictions being placed on the number of submissions in each category by individuals and stations. At the various presentations, Rothschild also called for

nominations for additional adjudicators. “With the continuation in the growth of the number of entries it is necessary for us to continually evaluate the adjudication panel and to ensure that we have an exceptionally broad range of skills and knowledge amongst the panel. “I am really pleased that we have already managed to recruit some new members to the panel and I hope to have a total panel of about 60 adjudicators for 2015,” said Rothschild. “At MTN, we are constantly mindful of the vital connection that listeners have with their favourite radio stations,” said Larry Annetts, chief marketing officer of MTN in South Africa. “Our sponsorship of the MTN Radio Awards is ultimately aimed at enhancing the relationship that stations have with their listeners through focusing radio professionals on doing excellent work. “We’re looking forward to celebrating another year of excellence in radio across the entire South African broadcast radio spectrum on 18 April 2015 when we announce the winners. “I wish all across the entire radio industry the best of luck with their entries,” Annetts said.

“We are ready. The important thing is to select the best team that will represent us in the championships,” he says. The teams from Lejweleputswa, Mangaung Metro, Fezile Dabi and Thabo Mofutsanyana, the host, are expected to take part in the squad selection. “We are expecting those districts to come with their best boxers, because that will help us to select the best team. Remember, we have never won the national championships before and we want to make sure that we win them this year as the hosts,” Mokoena says. He says they are committed as federation to put the Free State were it belongs when it comes to sport and boxing in particular.

Cardoso, teammates fit and ready for action BETHLEHEM. – The Free State Stars defender Daniel Cardoso has been cleared for action after a lengthy spell out with a stress fracture. Cardoso is yet to play this season, having also missed a sizeable chunk of the last campaign with the injury. However, he is fit again, as are his teammates Robert Sankara, Andrea Fileccia and Danny Venter. Defender Sankara had a hamstring complaint, while Belgian striker Fileccia was nursing a bruised thigh. Rudolf Bester (hamstring), Sibusiso Mthethwa (shoulder)

and Hendrik Somaeb (foot) remain on the sidelines with their respective knocks. Stars coach, Tom Saintfiet, told his club’s website: “Rudolf is still out. “Together with Sibusiso Mthethwa, who is also still out. Then also Hendrik is out. “But Andrea is back fit, Robert Sankara is fit and Daniel Cardoso is fit. “Danny is also fit. The group is bigger and bigger, so we have much more players to choose from for the coming matches,” he said.

Garankuwa woos Lechesa DUNCAN LECHESA is on the verge of joining the National First Division (NFD) side Garankuwa United. Lechesa, who parted ways with Royal Eagles recently, is negotiating with the Pretoria-based outfit. “We are negotiating with Duncan Lechesa, but it is not final yet,” George Mogomotsi, the club’s general manager, told KickOff.com. “As for the coach who was with us (Lesley Notsi), he has resigned and we are also finalising that,” he added. Garankuwa United, previously known as United FC, are 15th on the log, with six points after nine matches. – KickOff.com
