Campers will first learn about the basic safety of drone flying and the history behind drone racing as a sport. From there, campers will progress through various skill challenges and learn how to perform various exercises and maneuvers to become familiar with the drone’s speed and agility. Flight squads post up against one another in friendly competition when they race themselves and the clock. Students first maneuver the drone through creative obstacle courses before taking on the challenge of flying for speed. Participants contribute fully in this program as they create the design and help build the obstacle course in preparation for the last day’s final activities and competition. All campers go home with interactive workbooks and plenty of Drobots Company keepsakes and trinkets so the memories last long beyond the summer. Drone safety and social responsibilities of flying are included in this program.

Gutsy Girls and Wise Women: A Resilience Building Workshop for Mothers and Daughters with Dr. Lisa Damour, Ann V. Klotz, and other Laurel School faculty

Ages: Dates: Time: Format: Location: Tuition:

Girls entering Grades 5-8 and their Mothers August 3 -4 (Saturday & Sunday) 10:00 am - 4:00 pm One weekend session Laurel’s Butler Campus in Russell Township $750

Join us for a two-day retreat that will: foster girls' confidence and resilience; build their mothers’ understanding of how to best support adolescent girls; and reinforce the critical mother-daughter bond. The retreat will take place at Laurel School’s Butler Campus where girls will participate in confidence boosting programming with Ann V. Klotz, Head of Laurel School and 35-year veteran of girls’ education; psychologist Lisa Damour, PhD; and members of the Laurel School faculty. While their daughters participate in workshops and brave the Project Adventure Ropes Course, moms will meet in small groups with Ms. Klotz and Dr. Damour. Ms. Klotz will facilitate reflective writing and small group conversation about all aspects of motherhood. Dr. Damour will lead book group discussions of her New York Times bestseller Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions Into Adulthood and her forthcoming book Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls. (Signed copies of both books will be sent to all participants in June.) Before the weekend concludes, moms will do some resiliencebuilding work of their own and join their daughters in programming designed to build mutual understanding and strengthen the motherdaughter connection.
